I like Shonen-ai but Yaoi is kind of hard core... sometimes.. too much anal sex is not cool. I think a lot of people can agree. Shonen-ai is REALLY cute though <3<3 As for yuri/shojo-ai I am indifferent.. Though I doubt I would enjoy watchign yuri (never have.. so I can't say) but yeah.. I don't really want to watch to girls have sex.. Then again, I am not a fan of ecchi or hentai.. so yeah.... and note.. hard core shota porn is not cool at all. The only shota character I think is cute is honey-sempai but that is not really porn.. and.. lolis ftw~ |

ROFLMAO @ all of ya... Why is it the men that LOVE yuri don't want to look at yaoi?? And why is it some of the women that LOVE yaoi don't want to look at yuri? I think that's kinda narrow-minded actually... if you can't watch 2 people of your gender having an affair (if the story is good.) If it's an excellent story, what does it matter who the "couple" is? LOLOLOL... not to mention the hypocritical nature of some of the yuri and yaoi lovers. Think about it. ^_~ eta: As long as it's not TOO explicit... I can watch it (actually, even some explicit scenes I can handle, if it's in the context of the story... and as long as it's not sex for the sake of sex... but that holds true for live movies/shows as well as anime). |

I'm straight, but when it comes to anime I have low gender awareness so I don't mind watching yaoi or yuri. However, since I am a girl (a FAN GIRL!) I absolutely prefer yaoi over yuri. |

How is it narrow minded? or anything? I mean it's rather natural that straight ppl aren't into watching two people of their own gender goin at it. I mean, that is you being gay, if u're not gay, then u don't watch it, if u watch two of the opposite gender, then you're not being gay even thogh they are |

When I downloaded and watched "Loveless" back then, I totally didn't know it was yaoi'ish. I just downloaded it because it was new and all, and the art looked good .. also, my fave Seiyuu Horie Yui had a small role in it .. so ofc I'd check it out. Darn, was I being like WTF after it. Ah well. On the other hand, I like yuri series like Otome wa Boku ni Koishiteru, Kashimashi, Strawberry Panic, etc a lot. |

To Evadoll- I have a friend like that. Hates Kairi and gives no real explanation for it, and she's a BIG yaoi fan. Put 2+2 together... For me, yuri always floats my boat, ecchi and non-ecchi :D But on that note, I really, I mean REALLY enjoyed Gravitation for the beautiful story it told. I'm a little closed-minded when it comes to shounen-ai, but Gravitation just had a fantastic story I thought. ANd yes, I am naturally straight...mostly... So far as I'm concerned, homosexuality is like football or getting blind drunk: I have no problem with it per se, but it's not something I'll ever really understand, let alone appreciate, and I hate people trying to sell it to me or shove it in my face. I shall do my thing and you do yours. So, as far as anime goes, as long as it actually serves the story somehow I can deal with it, but if the basic point of what I'm watching is, basically, gay porn of either persuasion...no thanks. If forced to choose, I'd far rather see women kissing etc. on screen, being more interested in them than in men, but I'll not seek it out especially. What I'm not getting about this whole thing is: does Yaoi/Yuri differ fundamentally in some way from non-anime/manga depictions of homosexual relationships, or is it just a matter of calling it something different because it's a different medium and artistic style? To put it another way, is it possible to describe, say, a Hollywood film about two gay men that includes sex scenes as Yaoi? |

Personally, I don't care either way. I won't intentionally seek yaoi out to see man-on-man action, of course. But if a story keeps me interested and includes yaoi or yuri, it won't bother me. I'll still watch it. But I agree in that yaoi fangirls are crap. Especially the ones who write horrible fanfictions. "An then Cloud kissed Reno on the lips n it was HAWT11shift" |

To put it another way, is it possible to describe, say, a Hollywood film about two gay men that includes sex scenes as Yaoi? i think yaoi is used to describe only anime and manga with homo-erotic themes/scenes between males...i don't think it's correct to call a scene in a live action movie with males having sex as yaoi...and now for some sweet copy and paste action courtesy of answers.com on what i found... Etymology The English letters form a backronym of the Japanese phrase 「ヤマなし、オチなし、意味なし」 (yama nashi, ochi nashi, imi nashi), often translated into English as, "no climax, no punch line, no meaning," or as the catchphrase, "No peak, no point, no problem." It has also been rather affectionately termed "Yamete! Oshiri ga itai!" or "Stop! My butt hurts!" in English. The term appears to have been originally used in Japan, perhaps as early as the 1970s, to describe any doujinshi that was a bizarre, playful parody; however, it has come to refer solely to sexually explicit male-male homosexual material. Yaoi is not a common term in Japanese; it is specific to the otaku subculture. FateSyka said: But I agree in that yaoi fangirls are crap. Especially the ones who write horrible fanfictions. Love Hina spoiler Near the end of Love Hina, Keitaro's adopted-sister (whose name escapes me) dresses as Naru and nearly seduces Matoko. This leads speculation to what are Matoko's true desires (although by the 12-13 book she comes right out and says that she is and always has been in love with Keitaro) and leads people to wonder about Keitaro's-sister orientation as well (but again, she was only doing this to make Naru look bad). Also, Mutsumi comes across as someone who is very open about her sexuality, and although not straightforwardly bi, seems to enjoy kissing women. |

I am under the firm belief that Gackt is genderless. Let me rephrase that, Gackt has TRASCENDED sex and gender as a whole. He is no longer male nor is he a female. No, Gackt is something more than that. He is a being a pure, sexual energy. No one is immune to it, all men and women look upon him and melt...in their pants. Those who deny it only deny themselves their true desires which leads to the inevitable breakdown of all cognitive thought I am beyond hope, I am now melded into the will of Gackt as no more than a shell, an emptiless being who can only acheive death when Gackt takes me into his arms, or at the very least, Gackt will gaze upon the figure of a 6', atheltic built american with brown hair, and wonder why he is giggling and squealing like horny Catholic school girl. ANd I am serious, I WOULD do that and I dread the day I meet him because I could. Not. Help it. |

Instant said: yuri is think is just beautiful... but when it crosses the line into lesbo.. its beauty ceases.. hence why marimite is classy and good and strawberry panic is yuck That's an interesting distinction to make. While I agree that Strawberry Panic was terrible and MariMite is total win, can you really say that the characters being overtly gay as in Strawberry Panic can't be done in a classy way? I suppose most yuri is considered fanservice so perhaps not... but I feel it's a shame to automatically draw that line. Does Kashimashi even count as yuri? o.O Faux yuri, at the least. |

I began with yaoi, went into hentai, and have now emerged into yuri. With shotakon and lolicon in between, of course. Hm... For me, yaoi is still delectable... but in small amounts. I perfer yuri now. The story, setting, dialogue, and characters (' hair colors, uniform, drawing style) weighs more heavily on whether or not I'll watch/read it. So I agree with Crystal. Oh! One more thing: I like Shoujo-ai more than Yuri , and Yaoi more than Shounen-ai. Shoujo-ai tends to have the most emotional (and there fore most suited to me) plots, where as Yaoi tends to have the most action (of all kinds). It really depends on my mood. :) |
