| UPDATE: Ufotable suspected tax evasion case update: Amount involved is around $US ~3.5 million; might also be involved in misappropriation of earthquake charity donations https://www.reddit.com/r/anime/comments/bcc3se/ufotable_suspected_tax_evasion_case_update_amount/ ---------------------------------------------- Bungeishunju's Weekly Bunshun Digital magazine reported on Thursday that the Tokyo Regional Taxation Bureau conducted a search of animation studio ufotable's offices on March 12 as part of an investigation on the company allegedly committing tax evasion. The report stated the Bureau conducted searches in the company's cafes in Kōenji and Tokushima, as well as the animation studio in Shimoigusa, in Tokyo's Suginami ward. https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2019-03-28/bunshun-magazine-fate-studio-ufotable-under-investigation-for-alleged-tax-evasion/.145097 unlimited budget works am i right? lol but seriously hopefully they will not cancel any anime project contracted by the production committees because of this |

| I personally have never been interested in the Fate series. I saw a clip on YouTube and the characters felt too artificial, the way they talked and moved. Seriously. So I'm fine with this LOL. I don't think I've looked at any other anime by this studio. *want to see the world burn kind of person* |

| Wow........Actually,When saw the title,my first thought is:This first time I heard about a studio been Alleged Tax Evasion Anyway,I personally think ufotable is the best we can get for make fate series animation out there. At least,as far as i see, other studio made animation like FE or FA is far less than ufotable built animation versions(ZERO,UBW) If they really been closed down for that.Fate series animation will stuck in dilemma |

| It's definitely not something you want to get into if it's treu, but then again what if I told you people do it all the time since taxation is also theft so I can understand why people do it in the first place. It just sucks to be you if you get caught if it's treu. |

| Tax evasion isn't that big of a deal. Akira Toriyama and many others have done it and their works are unaffected. |

| They just gotta sell all the rights of the Fate series to Shaft and is all good :> Tax evasion is a quite common practice, even among well payed soccer players for example, so not much of a surprise there. I am sure ufotable is not the first and for sure wouldnt be the last studio to do something like that if this is confirmed true, still i doubt that this will have that much repercussions but it can very well delay the production some of their anime projects. |

| Ooh, yikes. This might completely dissolve the company. As an accountant when I see this... According to the report, ufotable founder, representative director, and president Hikaru Kondo was allegedly directly receiving some of the revenue accrued from the studio's merchandise sales. ...that normally means there's some deep-rooted fraud festering around at all levels of the business. That said, I know Japan business regulations are way more forgiving than a lot of other countries, so perhaps ufotable knows the right people and will be able to slip through this relatively unscathed. Regardless, I'd expect a few delays in the future. |

Nope, anyone who has actually read UBW would know how badly they treated it. Just look at the way anime only's view Shirou because of how much they butchered his character in an arc that is entirely centered on his character growth. Just because the Deen one is worse doesn't make what Ufotable does good. |

This glorious signature image was created by @Mayumi! I am the Arbiter of Absolute Truth, and here is my wisdom: "Anime was always influenced by the West. This is not news. Shoujo is the superior genre primarily aimed at young people. Harem/isekai are lazy genres that refuse any meaningful innovation. There is no 'Golden Age.' There will always be top-shelf anime. You should be watching Carole & Tuesday." |

One of the reasons why Shirou is such a divisive character in the anime fandom is because his character feels pretty static, not justifying his personality or character through monologues, as it was done in the VN. Quite a few plotholes in the anime too, which was expected I guess. |

Aside from the sex scene. Most of his characterization is done by way of his inner monologues, and with those being entirely absent and with no effort ever made to make up for them elsewhere, it makes Shirou really flat. The whole point of Unlimited Blade Works is the way his and Archers morals clash, and when you leave so much of Shirou's thought process out, you don't convey that stuff well. |

I would also argue that the direction of monologues could have been better, sometimes it just felt like copy-paste of certain parts. It's a decent entertaining watch but that's it, very poor characterization all around. |

| Can't say I'm too sad. Definitely my least favorite studio. Have a negative opinion on the Knk films, an even more negative opinion of UBW, and I didn't find Fate Zero(both seasons) to be anything more than decent. Most of the character arcs excluding Kiritsugu ended disappointingly and anticlimactically and the pacing left a lot to be desired. Not a fan of the flashbacks either. |
