Have you ever droped a manga that you had been following for a long time and with great interest?

Actually, the question is in the title. It's not really relevant to me in the anime context, because if I lose interest in a show, I just finish the season and don't follow the updates anymore. But I've dropped a lot of manga in my time, because manga usually takes much longer to publish and is updated more often, so I have more opportunities to re-evaluate my attitude towards the title and stop reading it. For various reasons, but mostly if the development feels too far removed from what I started reading the manga in the first place for or when I just lose any interest or motivation. So, was that an easy and painless decision? Or do you still have conflicted feelings about the title and your memories of it?

In my case I never dropped. I only experience some new series being axed after Japanese readers negative feedback via toc in weekly shonen jump at the begining of serialization thus ending very early.

Yes it happens sometimes,but it has been many years since i dropped a manga that i read for a long time.

Fairy Tail dropped at chapter 344. if you know you know. i did watch all anime seasons tho lol. Im a sucker for Fairy Tail.

Shokugeki no Soma dropped at 296/325 and never picked it up again.

i did drop Magi very close to the end..but went back and finished it and i loved it!

Honestly..i almost dropped Usogui after 200 chapters but i decided to continue and now im at 371/541 and im loving the current arc. I just dont read it as often bc im reading too many manhwa currently.

Honestly when it comes to manga I don't think I've really dropped much, though there might be some. It's my fault for not keeping it categorized properly on here. More often than not though if it's not super interesting I just put it on hold for a while, sometimes being forever apparently. XD

No, I put it on hold.
It happens when I read every available chapter and then have to wait for new updates.
Then months later the manga already has 100+ new chapters and I don’t remember a thing.
So I have to start over.
This happened with Boku no Hero, for example.
Now I will have to read Blue Lock and One Piece from the start 'cause of my bad memory about arcs.

No but I have One Piece on hiatus again as I read it every couple of years since I kinda binge it and need at least a dozen or more volumes worth of content to read through

Not outright dropped, but I put it on the on hold list and then forget about it.

For example Gantz. I never was particularly unsatisfied and even really enjoyed the 2016 movie.
It's just that I haven't touched it since 2012. Still planning on finishing it, though. Maybe next decade.

There are long running stories I dropped after reading most of it, but it's not like I read those over years. For example, Solo Leveling got really, really stupid later on. Not even the Manhwa, I read the novel because I enjoyed it. Unfortunately the novel got really stupid, so I dropped the Manhwa to save me the disappointment.

Also have manga I bought many volumes from and then just dropped them because it got stupid. Again, nothing I read over years.

Maybe Berserk. That one got pretty stupid and then the author played Idolmaster instead of continuing it for like two decades and then also died. Not sure if I'll ever catch up with Berserk again.

@TransferUser And you weren't sorry to end it? There are a number of titles that I droped after many years of investing and I still feel uncomfortable when I think about them.

No.

They either turned to shit or I forgot about them. Why would I lament about it?

Plenty of manga I had a good time reading over years turned to shit with the ending, too. Like Claymore or Gunslinger Girl. It's unfortunate, but I can't do anything about it, so I move on.

Come to think of it, I don't have a single completed manga on my shelf. Either they never end or they turn to shit.
No wait, I lied. The Voynich Hotel ended with three volumes and it's excellent. That one is sitting on my shelf, but it's inconspicuous, since it only has three volumes.

@TransferUser Has it really gone that far? I've heard that anime is very different from manga.

@TransferUser Claymore and Gunslinger.
@RobertBobert

Claymore only has an anime only ending, otherwise it's pretty close. I was disappointed by the anime ending for years, but the manga ending is even more disappointing. Felt like it got canceled and then wrapped up in a chapter.

Gunslinger Girl is a curious case, where there's a stark difference between the first and second season, but both of them are actually fairly close to the manga. The difference is only in style choices. First season was trying to appeal to the western market, but after that idea crashed so hard that it even took Studio Gonzo out, the second season instead tried to appeal to the Japanese market. All its weaknesses were also present in the manga, but not as magnified.

@TransferUser Did Claymore create the original ending in an attempt to damage control the original manga's ending?

@RobertBobert No, Claymore's anime ending came out seven years before the manga ended. Back in those days it was commonplace for the anime team to create anime original endings to ongoing manga series.

@TransferUser So, anime is essentially just an alternate version of manga in this case?
