Little Shikishima sure can eat a lot for someone who is not a Kagamihara. Of course anytime Nadeshiko gets involved in the competition, the outcome is already decided.

This episode's first half focused on excessive drinking, with naughty, self-deriding, peripheral corkscrews shaped like the statue of the Little Pissing Man. The second half focused on excessive eating, making a reference to a social media trend. Both parts concluded with the same repetitive line: "it was fun". They looked like rowdy tourists, contrasting with all the natural beauty that surrounds them. There's a difference between having fun and going hog wild.

Kako just using Haruno for her content is always funny, Toba-sensei will really get along with Haruno as drinking buddies! haha

An will always be the little gremlin of the group

Sakurako so smol yet she eats BIG... but ofcourse THE Nabeshiko (and her family) wins an 'eating' contest lol, her appearance surprised me, I really thought the Cinematography Club will win.

At this point I hope we can get a special/ova where the camping girls hangs out with the photography girls

You'd almost feel bad for her, but then she uses the girls for her own manga content, so... :D

Okay, the gang went on a trip about wines, and the cinephoto club for some reason becomes part of a race involving eating showdown.

The past two episodes have made this anime lose track of their hobby, photography/filming videos, so the episodes become all over the place.

Still somewhat enjoyable but could have been better.
@patkarunungan I agree I haven't enjoyed these last 2 episodes as much for that reason

So I guess the Yuru Camp cameos are going to keep being an ongoing thing. To be fair, that might be enough to keep me watching for at least a good while longer, I'm not sure. But it feels like such a wasted opportunity, because I feel like the show will never try to become good enough to stand on its own because it's relying so heavily on the cameos to draw people in. And I doubt I'd watch a second season unless that changes. References can only go so far.

Definitely feels like the Boba Fett show where the main draw is the YC fans getting to see their favorite characters while waiting for the new season, rather than putting effort into making the new characters shine. Will definitely harm the rewatch value once season 4 is out, IMO.

21:41 Ah, right I forgot Nadeshiko was a fast eater.
22:27 Do It Yourself... Reminds me of another pretty relaxing anime. xD

Feels like there hasn't been enough attention on the girls' camera work, and too much on whatever activity Haruno or Kako have concocted for them. I've been thinking this anime might have worked better with Haruno and Kako farther in the background, and that ghost-member from the cinema club coming back to form a main cast of four girls.

I was also kind of surprised to not see any message about not getting too drunk while Haruno was drinking all that wine.

I was under the impression that Kiriyama is/would be a big eater though. I think because of all that snack food she is constantly eating, buying up in bulk, and obsessing over at Haruno's grandmother's convenience store. Also I thought that in the first episode she was rushing to get some heavy food at the cafeteria in the science moseum/observatory. Or maybe I'm mixing in some of Haruno's traits with her.

But unlike some rowdy tourists, they weren't actually bothering anyone or doing anything destructive to other people's property or vacation time. The most disruption they caused was probably from a drunken Haruno occasionally being slightly loud.

Yeah, I'd definitely endorse this reworking proposal. It sounds a little more in line with the structure I expected from the show and was more keen on the idea of.

I've enjoyed the Yuru Camp characters' cameos the past few episodes, but I've become a little annoyed with the lack of actual photography and more directly photography and video filming-related activities. Or like, they exist (I saw at least some smartphone photos being taken this episode and the whole premise is Kako using Haruno on the trip for some video project), but it's pushed so far into the background and not focused on that you forget it's really even a factor. Apparently there are other anime as well which imply they'd have a central focus on the art of photography and photographic activities and then just don't.

That aspect of things in which I feel the original purpose is being crowded out is why I think that Hibi wa Sugiredo Meshi Umashi for me is moving up the list ahead of Mono as the CGDCT Slice of Life of the season for the time being. Which is arguably ironic because the whole premise of that series is that the girls' club is a fake front club for lazing around and goofing off. But because of that it feels they were more honest with their intention...

@WatchTillTandava I get people want to have fun all I say is if things start getting out of hand the cuteness may become a hit or miss episode after episode. The drunk and overeating are just sad and awkward, and even if they don't actually show more details about it on screen, it still evokes negative images.

The animation has had a drop in quality, I hope it returns to normal.
@MahoRyoka

The animation didn't drop at all. Quite the opposite, some cuts have a lot of complexity, animating liquids are one of the most complex type of animation.

https://x.com/Miyaso040105/status/1918691826795728949

Ann eating a slice of watermelon is incredibly exhausting for the animators because it's changing the volume of the slice almost every second.

https://sakugabooru.com/post/show/282172

The scene where Haruno melts down is also very elaborate, on par with some battle shonen anime.

https://sakugabooru.com/post/show/282170

The fact that some cuts have incredibly simplistic almost scribble like animation is a choice for contrast and humor (like the one where Haruno is absolutely hammered). It's not a dip in animation quality, it's stylistic choice.

@Kimurah I can understand your point, but if the price to pay for "smoother" animation is barely being able to recognize the original character design with deformed faces and bodies throughout the episode, I have no choice but to call it poor animation quality.

- Afro, how many Yuru Camp cameos can you do in Mono?
- YES!

Finally we got to the part that finally united these two titles, lmao. I just have one question. What time in Yuru Camp does this take place? I was confused by how Nadeshiko looked a little too young here, although Rin and the other girls' cameos were modern.

@MahoRyoka

Again, it's not an animation issue. It was completely deliberated for humorous value. If it was an animation issue all of the characters would have looked badly drawn thru-out the whole episode.

You also seem to be mixing up the concept of animation with artstyle. Ann looking all a tad deformed and less detailed is in order to make contrast with Satsuki & Kako while she's just being Ann, rumbuctus and silly.

Another great use of animation and different artstyle was Haruno getting all hammered. The more she drank, the less detailed she looked. Again, it's on purpose for humor value.

Better than the previous episode I think, but not a lot of photography going on.

Also, setting the air conditioning to 18°C in summer while lazing about in summer clothes is nuts. Reminds me of the time I went to a Japanese office in early spring and they had the heating cranked to 28 degrees while everyone was wearing suits...

Hopefully you enjoy it! There hasn't been a huge amount of on-topic club activities there either (like in the case of their club, cooking) in recent episodes, but as I said at least the girls' club in that series was actually started as a ruse and basically just excuse to hangout and have a clubroom, so even them not doing much beyond some mildly food-adjacent activities like eating at a restaurant seems a little more faithful/truthful to the setup in episode one than in this series (Mono).

I'm still enjoying Mono, but yeah, would like to really see them do more relating to photographing and/or video filming in upcoming episodes, especially because they made such a big deal early on in the first episode of the different interesting-seeming types of cameras they were both getting and their potential for use and versatility. Don't want to see them just go largely unused onscreen and collect dust after that.

@Kimurah No, I'm not confusing anything. Just because it's intentional doesn't mean it's not a bad decision, bad animation, and bad art direction. I can't "laugh" at a decision like that when all it does is damage the image that existed until now. No, I'm not confusing anything. @MahoRyoka deliberately ignoring the character design sheets and aiming for an animator-exclusive approach to the point it looks a completely different anime at times is what you get when the animators are given complete artistic freedom - it's core Japanimation, please learn how to appreciate every creator's artistic tendencies especially when a miracle like this episode happens, it's an absolute visual feast

@nwssx It seems you're the one who needs to learn to appreciate other people's tastes. I'm just giving my opinion. I think it's easy to understand why I'm saying that changing your entire artistic style from one chapter to the next doesn't seem good for the story's pacing. I repeat, if you like it, fine, but I'm perfectly within my rights to say that this "miracle" seems like an insult to the rest of the work we've seen so far.

Nadeshiko from Yuru Camp making a cameo in this episode, I see.

Didn't like the first half of the episode. Any anime that has episodes that revolve around alcohol and drunk characters annoys me (though there are stuff that annoys me even more in other anime to the point that I'd drop it, which fortunately, this show doesn't have anything of the sort). Even more annoying are the underage characters planning to drink wine when they get older. How bout not drink alcohol ever? Second half was good though. But yeah, because of the first half, this is the worst episode so far for me.

It feels like the adaptation and production are way better than its contents. Fun characters with great voice talent, expressive animation, and fantastic direction. All while there's very little photography or cinema, and we spend the episodes eating, drinking, and paying tribute to Yuru Camp.

Karma really hit Kako there. Dragging Haruno out to the fancy-looking winery and getting a recommended bottle...only for it to be plentifully sold at the local supermarkets xD
Wish they'd focused a bit more on the dishes and checkpoints of the rally though. So far this series has drawn attention to real locations around Kofu, so it felt a bit disappointing to have them all rushed over. Wasn't expecting Nadeshiko and family to be the ones to win the event though :P

I’m not really sure what to comment on this time! But Kagamihara is still my favorite character from Yuru Camp. I loved and watched the anime because of her, honestly—she’s my favorite. So her appearance made me happy overall.

Kako's ruse to bring Haruno and the Cinephoto Club to Koshu to visit a winery, and the alcohol-living mangaka made sure thar she just doesn't go around being flimsy lol. But since Koshu is quite the wine area, Kako allowing Haruno to have her wine-tasting "buffet" to help build her content, she's quite the sly friend lol. But otherwise, it's a good trip...though Kako sure made her trip quite redundant when her type of wine can be found at the local supermarket. Yelp...

The hot Summer break that dampens the hopes of all coldness, Haruno requesting Sacchan the Cinephoto Club to go on a stamp rally, though this is a bane because of the insanely big proportions of food that show a side of Shikishima that they didn't know is possible lol, that despite her petite size, she can REALLY eat big. And since this is a food triathlon of sorts, the unintended competition against some well-known mukbang YouTubers sure made them all fired up, and ballooned up as well lol. Kiriyama didn't quite eat a lot, but the irony of losing to Nadeshiko's family was quite the joke lol.

Quite the charm of just having some food all over Yamanashi...
