Since anime is (was) such a creative filled media (used to be). What genre so bad, so dumb that you hate and avoid seeing and felt like it was a waste of talent? ..........................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

There is no bad genre in my mere opinion, but there is only one genre of content that I have no interest in consuming, which is todlercon.

"Worst genre ever?"

Avant Garde. Harem is the worst theme.

Wors genre??? I don't think there's such thing as worst genre unless most of the animes in that genre is awful/bad/mid, then it would be Harem. Repeating the same format over and over again I still do like 1-3 harem anime but comparing it to the other genre... yeah.

I guess I haven't watched tons of shows yet in each genre to get a worst genre. But I do see online that people have fed up with Isekai anime lately.

I wouldn't say there's one objectively "worst" genre. I personally don't like ecchi or harem anime. Tried it, it's not for me, but it's doesn't automatically make it bad yk

you know it's dark outside, when you go outside, and it's dark. -_-

There is only one genre:

PROPAGANDA, period.

Any objection?

Genre are descriptors, they can't be good or bad, it's all subjective. That being said i hate battle shonen.

BL, that shit is filled with all sorts of sexual violence being romanticized and various other kinks, its fans are cancer too, they hate decent men and simp to hot gay rapists.

Can't say I think of a genre as being "the worst" but here's my least favorite: BL. It just doesn't work for me given I'm a straight dude.

I've always thought Mecha is oversaturated and all of them suck except Geass or GiTS (if you could even classify those as mecha shows). I wish they'd just let the Gundam franchise die, it's not the 90s anymore the Mecha genre is outdated

Really subtle with the modern anime hate there. Also, there is no "worse genre ever". Every genre has it's good points and it's bad. Even I have found multiple shows from genre I typically avoid that I ended up liking.

@tchitchouan It doesn't exist."Battle shounen" is strictly a term made up by the anime fandom. And I'm inclined not to accept it as a genre because this is coming from people who still think shounen in general is a genre, which it isn't. So called "battle shounen" already have a genre to separate them from the others, it's called "action". Just like how series like Prince of Tennis have the "sports" tag. Hell, the lack of a "shounen" tag on series like Mob Psycho further proves my point. Mob is shounen as hell, and yet it isn't labeled as such, because shounen isn't a genre. Thus, "battle shounen" isn't a genre.....Sorry for the rant.

@Euroqean Compared to isekai mecha's definitely not oversaturated. Remember that mecha was mostly created from the 70s into the 90s, back then the anime industry didn't churn out as many titles as it does now. 10 anime per year was the norm, compare that to the 15 to 20 per season, at least 3 or 4 of which are going to be isekai. Definitely not the same.
>all of them suck
Personal preference but it heavily depends on how much you like science fiction. If you like sci-fi you'll probably like mecha and vice versa. Again, not a hard rule whatsoever.
Speaking whether or not Code Geass and GitS are mecha, yes both are mecha. Mecha as a genre has mecha or mechanical elements such as cybernetics, spaceships and fighter jets appear on a regular basis no matter how much a show chooses to dwell on the mecha elements.
>I wish they'd just let the Gundam franchise die
Most mecha fans sometimes have this opinion, but you could really extrapolate that to other genres as well. Like, I'm pretty sure most Naruto fans didn't like Boruto and wanted the franchise to finish right where the original manga ended. Anyways, as long as I get a good Gundam show I don't mind it too much, the problem is Gundam has been wildly inconsistent the past 10 years or so.
>the Mecha genre is outdated
We could say that about sci-fi in general, the last 15 or so years haven't been good for science fiction outside of superhero shows and a few occasional standouts. So there is a definite period of lesser popularity for sci-fi. Mecha is one of those themes that's simply always going to have some sort of appeal because of its' inherent nature, no matter how people try to gaslight themselves into thinking "this show is about the characters" (*cough* Evangelion fans *cough*), so it's never going to be outdated purely off of that. Less popular? Maybe. Outdated? Definitely not.

Probably Boys Love for me. Granted, there are a few titles I enjoyed from the genre like Given and Doukyuusei. But too many of them milk the old uke/ seme relationship dynamics that get uncomfortably close to pushing into rape territory.

I don’t think that any genre can even be subjectively called the worst. This is purely a matter of taste and preference.

Right now i will say harem. I'm a little tired of it. Can we have a romcom, or adventure with only one love interest ?

BL. I dont like gay stuff so never really liked BL. Also, the romance in it is not always good either. As a guy who loves vanilla romance, that theme is not present in BL.
If you enjoyed the time you wasted, then its not a waste of time.

The problem with BL is that it's not a genre about any kind of story involving gay boys/men, but rather something specifically made to appeal to fujoshi, with all the tropes this implies.

Something like "Flee" (live action documentary/drama) wouldn't be considered BL if it were an anime.

Yall be forgetting horror. Not in the sense of any titles that have this tagging but just the horror portion of it. Simply doesn't work with anime.
