i just started watching this show and im honestly so sad we will never get to see himmel in action. i am on episode 5 and its been great i feel like every episode is a love letter to frierens past adventure as she grows and finds more about herself. I would give anything to see her and himmel and everyones 10 year long adventure, i feel like it would be great.
ik the end goal for frieren is
but i am impatient i just wanna see more of them :')

Second season was announced not that long ago, didn't you hear about it? It's even in the MAL database.

The second season is a sequel, OP was asking if there would ever be a prequel series. As in showing Freiren and her party before the events of the story. I think it would be super cool to see even if it was like a one off movie or something

Ah, my bad. Kinda instinctively read it as sequel.

I don't think it's necessary tbh. A huge part of the charm of the first season(for me) is the little bits of the past getting unraveled over time.

That being said, would I watch it? duh

Will there be a prequel? I think probably not.

Do I want a prequel like many others, and would we watch it? Yes.

No, never. It would kill the narrative of the series and make half of it redundant.

No. The quest to defeat the demon lord is intentionally made to be the most generic you can think of, in order to emphasise the novelty aspect of Sousou no Frieren which is what happens beyond the journey's end.

Relevant parts to the current story were shown, not all the important points 😉
Note: I don’t lazily watch 3-5 episodes, biasedly compare to other anime, or unfairly judge by surface level similarities. With every anime I start, I watch the entire series, both Japanese Sub & English Dub, then judge each anime based on what they present, to give an honest and fair rating.

It was not made generic, just wasn’t really discussed beyond what the current timeline called for.

But that’s the whole point of the series. A prequel would cheapen it.

Definitely this. Not every aspect of a story needs to be explored. Leaving it up to the readers imagination is a valid choice. “Bad authors write too much, good authors write enough.” Someone on Twitter.

Actually, that is not accurate.

Yes, this anime was made to be many years after what happened, but showing what happened to lead up to the current timeline, does not cheapen this anime, depending on how they make the prequel.

There is a way to make the prequel that does not take away from the uniqueness of this anime.

I doubt it. Maybe a spin off series in a couple years? That could be fun

there's a "prequel" arc in the manga it won't be this next season. (edit) more of messing with time than a prequel but it's better fit for the way the story is told

This, I would still eat up more Frieren but would prefer if they focus on the main story. I love how we slowly learn about the past in little segments as well

i don't this so
and I support not having a prequel , before completion of the whole story atleast
part of the charm is how they reveal bits of past by relating it to the current situations

the flashbacks make up the prequel content

unless they want to milk it

You should ask the author, lol. I don't think it needs one... besides, we get plently of flasbacks with the highlights of their adventure in the story.

@DaCraziGuy You mean only scenes related to what is happening in the current timeline.

That doesn't affect a prequel, those scenes can just be used in the prequel, along with further stories and context.

@FreedomKME False, the point of the series is not to completely forget the past, it is to remember particular past scenes as it fits into what is happening in the current timeline, to help Frieren realize things about herself/others/situations in the past, so that she can change and grow in this current future timeline.

A prequel, if done right, would further give context to the interactions between the characters during their adventures, and also show more about the past Frieren, establishing further context for the future timeline.

Well, a prequel showing the whole adventure wouldn't make sense, in the manga there is an arc that will give you some of what you want but it will probably be in season 3 xD

@ejleon Yes they do, we already have too much context to make it enjoyable, besides, it would make every flashback in the main series just filler. Besides, the point of the story is what happens after the generic (it's an stereotype) journey to defeat de demon lord, it takes away a lot of what makes the story good.

But well, I might be wrong, but I don't see the prequel happening... If you are right, we are going to get it in the future I guess.

To be fair half of the anime is flashbacks, and considering the themes of Frieren and the way the anime is framed I think the author will just continue telling the story the way it is. I wouldn't be against a prequel story though.

imo it's not necessary and it being shown through tiny bits of flashbacks is what makes Frieren's storytelling unique.

I don't think will be a prequel as it will defeat the whole purpose of the show. It's subtitle literally says 'Beyond Journey's End'.

I hope there isn’t a sequel. We know her backstory for the most part and I like that a lot of the hero’s party fighting the demon King is a mystery aside from frierens memory and old characters discussing it.

I hope not, it would feel very disrespectful to the point of the series.
A spin-off about some events that happened in the 50 years that Frieren was traveling would be OK, though.

actually SnF has SO MANY FLASHBACKS (and even an entire arc) that the "prequel" is already mixed along the series.

oh, but you'll see them in action...

In the 3rd season, if not counting dozens of flashbacks
