A former work colleague of mine was a notorious mythomaniac who took offense every time his lies were pointed out, and obstinately insisted that he was telling nothing but the truth... So maybe he believed them, somehow.

I think that there are very few people who do not lie to themself. If you have always trusted that your judgement is never clouded, chances are that you are living in ignorance.

Oh I know some, but they're not worth mentioning. I leave them be in their own echo chambers.

I knew someone in the past who liked to lie, but did he believe in his own lies, I'm not sure.
Who?

He was my friend who was a couple of years older me.
And how delusional might this person be

He wasn't delusional, just liked to make up things: what happened to him, what he bought/saw/tried, that he knew someone "cool", and other various stories.
Do they often believe their own lies ?

That's I don't know. But I started to notice discrepancies in his stories and understood that he likes to lie/make up things.
I apologize for my mistakes, because it's not my native language.

I did know a chronic liar in past but I'm not sure if he believed his lies and some Im not sure if they were lies or not. My mom also has a tendency to say things that aren't true but she thinks are.

It's more a BPD, NPD and sometimes ASPD thing than a delusion thing. Delusions can be like lies but more are a type of rationalizing in abnormal ways usually.

Everyone believes their own lies to a degree. If not then you're lying some extra!

I know people who like to think they are always right, and will justify anything wrong they do.

Almost everyone. Human Cultures are based on delusion in order to reconcile with the harshness of both nature and other humans. Cooperation can only achieve so much as it is limited by self interest, the majority of the populace always has to be subserviant in order for society to function, that obedience is rationalized by various delusions.
