| I find GL to be rather err dull. In terms of plot at least. It's basically two girls together. Not much of a leap from how girls as friends are usually portrayed in anime. So likely already appeals to those who like cute girls in anime anyway. (Plus males will still probably still enjoy it more too as it's not a threat to their masculinity :P ) Personally I prefer BL but then again I prefer male characters in anime. Plus I like the potential conflict. |

| It's just a matter of feeling. For me I don't feel as happy as watching GL when I look into BL pictures and works. Some people like watching boy and girl interacting in particular, and they shouldn't also be judged to be traditional or even homophobic. Preferring any one of them should not be judged or questioned, unless someone has much hate on other genres and attacks other's interest. |

| I will say something which I don't know if it is true or not, but what I have heard of. BL anime relationships are more toxic and borderline abuse at some points. I don't know if that is accurate but I have heard of such shows like Killing Stalking which is not a healthy relationship. While Girl Love tends to be more cutesy and wholesome, even pure if you will. Of course I can't say there aren't any wholesome BL shows. There is Sasaki and Miyano which is kinda cute But I have seen clips of different BL anime or movies where the relationship is toxic and very one sides. One is the dominating side while one is the submissive one. Like not in a good way but in a violent one, maybe even manipulative one. Feel free to correct me |

| My updated opinion after trying a bunch of BL and GL: As a straight girl I still find GL on average to be better than BL. BL is just way too disgusting, it seems like the author dies within 40 seconds from a heart attack if they don't include some form of sexual assault in their work, toxic relationships are romanticized and often the MC starting as straight gets converted to gay through rape, abuse and/or harassment by a hot gay bishounen. And during these sexual assault scenes they usually play comical music to make light of it or show the victim to be blushing to make it look like he's just in denial and secretly wants it to give the illusion that it's not actually assault/rape. Another thing that pisses me off is the BL often shows its characters to be fujoshis/fudanshis. GL suffers from similar issues too but to a lesser extent. I liked Adachi to Shimamura, TenTen Kamumei, Sasakoi, Oniisama e, Akuma no Riddle when it comes to GL works but the only BL I remember liking was Uraboku. I'm still open to trying both but I don't have any hope for BL at this point. |

| If you aren't sexually / romantically attracted to the characters or find them relatable enough it does kind of take something away from enjoyment overall, and if it gets real sexual for some it can make them uncomfortable. Also the storytelling in GL and BL have different vibes to them. I started watching GL and BL and I much prefer GL. |

| I've only seen Rainbow and Banana Fish for BL shows and they both had male rape and domination fetishes which really puts me off. However, there are sometimes sweet BL romances like Yukito and Touya from CCS, which isn't explicit, but pretty evident and they are so well matched and I found myself really hoping they get together. GL tend to be sweeter and lighter content, eg Yuru Yuri, GochiUsa etc, it's not serious romance just fluff. I've found more variety and interesting GL shows, like Gushing Over Magical Girls, Koihime Musou (ancient Chinese setting and various sorts of GL types, including a rapey type), I'm in Love with the Villainess, Yuri is my Job, or yuri bait like OniMai. But then I haven't really tried any softer BL shows, so maybe I might like them if there wasn't any rape/domination crap, but honestly not too interested in trying them out. |
