"Vague and Unprepared" as Junji Itou states himself in his afterward... this was indeed a disappointing unstructured story. 4/10.

Suprisingly, I was kept captivated throughout the end for the mystery and hope that the story would develop to something great, but I think her beauty had a part in that too.
The idea in the end of an everlasting darkness being inevitable, while angels of light will slowly but surely defeat the dark is solid.
The portrayal of this through "strands of hair" from volcano eruption which when absorbed into your hair grants god-like senses is awesome,

but unfortunately the journey of the story doesn't display that at all.
The main female protagonist, Byakuya in the end is revealed to be an angel from God who is the light to defeat the darkness that is the man who's attempted to steal her power for knowledge of the universe's library.
Even though in the end we learn that she was helping the people from the past when Miguel (the sacrafice who caused these god-like strands of hair), while still having amnesia of her original identity before she was kept alive in the strand's caccoon, safe from a volcano eruption... throughout the story, as mysterious and captivating as she is for her new clairvoyant ability, there was never a sense of her being an inevitable angel savior.

Itou expreses that he decided that her character remains neglectful of her destiny from God which is partly why she keeps running away anywhere while she's attempted in being kidnapped several times... but that's dumb.
The journalist is a decent method to use him to relay the story since she barely speaks in order to focus on not recieving all of the universe's knowledge and her full clairvoyant powers, but without any plots to build up to her being a savior travels back to the past to envelop Miguel with her hair and both slowly fight off the darkness with light is horribly flawed for failing to give a sense of foundation and building to that ending.
The suicidal humans turned bugs was interesting, but that as well was random, so was the journalist's stalker. It's a poorly structured story. Not his best work at all.

The idea was very good, but the execution left a little to be desired. 𓍯𓂃

The afterword from Ito about the characters not doing what he originally intended and the story changing along the way made me chuckle. Like yeah, definitely got the vibe he was pantsing the story.

I love the art and most of the concepts, plus I'm a sucker for cults and Christian imagery, but definitely needed a rework on the plot for it to work as a single book. Very messy. Probably would've been better as a series of one-shots, like one about the suicide cliff/bugs, one about a modern cult, etc. without the Kyoko throughline.
