pretty interesting story, but the art style feels lackluster coming from madhouse. It's just so plain on top of the direction and visuals that are pretty average. I'm mainly here for the story anyway.

I still have to watch more episodes, but I truly hope this is not based in old and outdated historical cliches.

@SideCharacterKal probably because of the director. He directed Parasyte before and thats a well animated series but it looks plain sometimes too.

@SideCharacterKal Orb anime improved the art style a lot when you compare it with its manga. Animation is also above avarage which is more than enough for a dialogue heavy anime.

A little cringe in some dialogue, and I wish it was a bit more historically accurate. However, it's a show that actively shits on religion knowing that it's a danger to science and human knowledge, and it's not an overhyped shounen with nothing of substance other than good animation and characters with fashion style. Those two things are definitely a very personal plus for me so I'll give this a shot

@ZXEAN its not meant to be historically accurate

Well, looks like most of the atheists here are taking it as being fact. Quite funny, they watch a random uninformed tv show and take it as fact; pretty much the same thing they accuse theists of doing 😄
@L01MK

atheist here, lol pretty sure most people are aware to not take anime series based on history as fact, same way as people shouldnt take Christian movies with white Jesus to be historically accurate
just enjoy an have fun

A show about Aristarchus of Samos' correct heliocentric model vs Aristotle's wrong geocentric model, set in late Medieval Poland with a backdrop of people getting burned alive for the mere "sin" of using their heads.
Quite original and fascinating, at least for (history of) astronomy and theology geeks like me 😊

I doubt this story will "actively shit" on religion, since religion itself is not an obstacle to science and knowledge; the enforcers of religion, like inquisitor Nowak, and the religious fundamentalists who seek to expand their herd by nefarious means, are the problem.

Despite not being an atheist I would have certainly been burned at the stake too if I had been born during that era and had the same inquiring mind. An era when merely thinking was considered a sin... 🤢

Yup, based on this first episode, this is as good as the score suggests. Was intriguing, and will get even more so probably as we delve deeper into it all. I might wait for this one to finish airing to binge watch it all at once.

As an atheist who is a fan of people like Giordano Bruno, Galileo Galilei, etc, who were persecuted by religion, I really enjoyed this anime.

Watched the first episode because there was a lot of hype and praise on ledit about this title.

Have to say I feel quite disapointed, I was expecting something more thorough in terms of cinematography and animation (coming from Madhouse), but it was quite average and even bleak on some parts (the static panning shots in the very first scene and the bubbly almost shoujo background effects when Rafal was acting in a joyful manner), I do have to admit that the backgrounds do look quite detailed though. Kinda felt that the edge was the most important asset of the whole episode, and that's no bueno in my books.

Can't help to feel that whoever was in charge of the cast went for the most derivative choices, Tsuda Kenjiro as a ruthless inquisitor and Hayami Show as a copycat of his hateful priest role from fate series.

I'll go for the 3 episode rule and see if it's something worthy of my time.

Thanks for the detailed explanation @Cersil on all those historical innacuracies. I did raise my eyebrow when I saw Rafal carrying a whole book on his own on the streets and seeing a literate door guardian reading a tablet.
@Kimurah The shoujo effects are probably because of the episode director Kotono Watanabe, She's an Assistant and episode director on Chihayafuru s1-3. Also Kenjiro Tsuda did a voiceover on orb manga back then when it was ongoing

Good to see an accurate depiction of Christianity without all the Church propaganda.

However: that wasn't "blackmail", that was just threatening.
@therealnagora lol this is so historically inaccurate
