Kana is so damn cute as Tsurugi!!

I almoooooost thought Melt's "big moment" leadup went on a touch too long, but boy, was it a visual tour-de-force!

This episode delivered. Probably the best of the season yet.

Woah, Doga Kobo actually animated this episode so beautifully... And it's only for a side character...
Melt on season 1 is actually like a NPC... But Only on this episode... he's actually so shining like a real star!
Well done Melt, you have your own special episode and it was animated very beautifully.
But I guess that's all for him... I don't think he will get more scene on the future.

Some of the most gorgeous sequences I've ever seen, definitely turned Melt into a lovable character. The time they dedicate to the growth of the seemingly inconsequential side characters is worthwhile in their telling of the world they are trying to portray. I want to see this stage play in real life!

@Farabeuf Nah, they see animation and go wild.

@hitori_n Where's the correlation or do you just reach all the time? Seeing your other replies, you're just mad at anyone who has a critique of not caring about this random side character. Dude didn't need a whole episode to himself.
@spartan112g I saw animation and went wild AND I saw a human character go through struggles that I could empathize with. Animation certainly wasn't this episode's only merit, just because you didn't care about the guy (and that's fine).

everything was amazing with this episode the animation was amazing and i love how they built on Melt this episode really letting him shine and grow as a character . The fight scen was absolutly amazing how they animated it was so amazing i loved every sec of it! the beginning was maybe a little long boring but i think it was a good way to show us the whole story even if we saw a part of it in episode 1 ,i cant wait for what the coming episode will show us!

I've never seen the animation lock in out of nowhere like that for one scene. It's not even for the main character or anything. It actually parallels Melt's own performance, where he can only give a good performance for one scene, but it's gonna be the best performance of his entire life. Almost like it's a metaphor or something. I wonder if the mangaka ever expected this scene of all things to get this much love ans spectacle in the anime

Again, I can't help but praise the diretion. First, they put us in the perspective of a spectator, and later, they show us the angle like a film.

Outstanding visuals with outstanding background storytelling...and we're only halfway through of the play. Best episode so far with all the initial planning taking fruit here. Next is Aqua's turn. Will he buckle under the emotions or use it to his advantage finally?

This episode was beautiful... That animation segment near the end was absolutely breathtaking. I'm not really following what's going on within Tokyo Blade, but that acting bit did almost make me tear up.
Hello from whatever year I left this comment in! It's funny, we're separated by so many years, and yet we're both enjoying the same media...

Enjoy the present :)

The last 3 eps were great, but the last one was a bit less exciting, cuz the character(s) who was in the focus is completely uninteresting for me. Also, i liked that it started to focus on Aqua more and more, but the 6st ep broke this process.

Best episode so far! Melt and Kizami are very similar, so Melt just needed to express his emotions and how he felt to best play the character. Seeing Yoriko be moved by Melt's growth was touching.

They took Melt's character and focused primarily on him for this first episode covering the tokyo blade play. On paper that may make you go like "huh??", but nah, they absolutely cooked. For but a moment, dude was on fire.

What a fantastic episode man, the crown and jewel of season two.

I have never in my anime-watching career seen anything like this, it was so magical, so different, so refreshing, and jaw-dropping.

The fact that they got me invested in a theatrical performance inside of an Anime and for that investment to be entirely separate from that of the show itself is an absolute achievement.

This is an episode to remember, and I hope whenever Aqua's part comes in it surpasses even this.

Style over substance episode.

Five episodes we were teased about their play and when it finally arrived it felt pretty mediocre and there was big disconnect between what appears to be fun for people watching that stage play and for anime viewers.

In other words, their clapping was probably meant to evoke the same feeling for anime watchers but it didn't work. Saying something is good doesn't necessary make it good.
Boring character won't magically become good when you show him doing something slightly awesome.

Whole beginning segment just didn't quite work in anime medium because you can't expect people to connect with some random fantasy characters being seen for the first time.
For that you would need to read the fictional Tokyo Blade manga first.

Also, as good as that final animation was it was completely unnecessary and out of place in given moment.

Probably the worst episode so far.
