| Madoka is hard to argue against. For the other two, I'm inclined to say K-ON and Bakemonogatari. Shounen I guess would be Gundam, Dragon Ball and Evangelion Shoujo I'd say Minky Momo, Sailor Moon and Utena And you don't really get big Josei. Even if they're great, they will be kind of niche. (Judging on a combination of quality, popularity, and impact and influence.) |

We'd need 3 seinen series that: 1) first came out in the same 4-5 year period, 2) highly successful 3) both locally (Japan) AND overseas Berserk, Vagabond, Kingdom and VS are the CLOSEST to that but nowhere "equivalent": 1) only Kingdom and VS 2) all but VS (only 7 million copies sold, Berserk despite being the second lowest still has 60), as for anime only VS is highly successful 3) locally: all but VS, overseas: all but Kingdom and maybe Vagabond as well |
