We all know what big 3 shounen are so what do you think the seinen equilavent of the big 3 is? Do you agree it's Berserk, Vagabond and Vinland Saga as some claim?

Not because they are my favorites, but due to their intergenerational fame, size of the franchise and they started pre-2010 similar to the big 3 shonen.

For me, of all time, Monster, Parasyte and Hellsing. And I'd like to say that Dungeon Meshi, even tho it's not the best of all time, it deserves some recognition!

Madoka is hard to argue against. For the other two, I'm inclined to say K-ON and Bakemonogatari.

Shounen I guess would be Gundam, Dragon Ball and Evangelion

Shoujo I'd say Minky Momo, Sailor Moon and Utena

And you don't really get big Josei. Even if they're great, they will be kind of niche.

(Judging on a combination of quality, popularity, and impact and influence.)

Hmmmm I guess like with shounens we should include here 3 big shots from 00s, so my guess would be:

Monster
Hellsing
Elfen Lied

None. We'd need 3 seinen series that:
1) first came out in the same 4-5 year period,
2) highly successful
3) both locally (Japan) AND overseas

Berserk, Vagabond, Kingdom and VS are the CLOSEST to that but nowhere "equivalent":
1) only Kingdom and VS
2) all but VS (only 7 million copies sold, Berserk despite being the second lowest still has 60), as for anime only VS is highly successful
3) locally: all but VS, overseas: all but Kingdom and maybe Vagabond as well

None of these are labeled seinen on MAL, where you got the info that they are?

@Zarutaku A hundred different places, it's common knowledge. As well as being completely obvious to anyone who's watched them and understands the demographics. (Except K-ON maybe, you might mistake that for shounen, Azumanga Daioh is shounen after all.)

@logopolis I see, my bad for trusting MAL's tagging system... found the links to seinen magazine of K-On and Madoka, but can't find any link saying that Bakemonogatari publisher Mephisto is a seinen magazine. Is this a case of "we just call it seinen because we think it's mature" ?

I would assume it's berserk, vagaband and vinland saga.

Although monster and kingdom could be there too.

@Zarutaku Because it's aimed at an older male audience. (As is Madoka, which is an anime original.) This doesn't necessarily correlate with "mature", if you asked me which is more mature out of, say, Kodocha and K-ON, I'm definitely picking Kodocha.

@logopolis ok, but is there any credible source that says Bakemonogatari is aimed at adult males or is it just a feeling that is called common knowledge because many others also have that feeling?

"Seinen Big 3"

Seinen doesn't sell as good thus the top 3 selling titles wouldn't be that much higher in comparison to the shounen top 3.

"Berserk, Vagabond and Vinland Saga"

No JoJo?

seinen big 3 in the mind of a child, because this concept comes from immature people want to seem like big boys who like deep stuff, hre's the AI answer to this
The concept of a “Big Three” in the seinen manga world isn’t as widely recognized as it is in shonen anime. However, there are notable series that deserve praise. Let’s explore two of them:

Berserk: Kentaro Miura’s dark fantasy masterpiece, “Berserk,” stands out. With 41 volumes first published in 1989, it predates even the Shonen Big Three. The manga is set in a mythology-inspired European-like world, filled with fantasy beasts, horrific occurrences, and heart-racing developments. The clash between the main characters, Guts and Griffith, takes center stage. Guts, caught in a saga orchestrated by supernatural beings known as the God Hand, embodies themes of pain, suffering, and determination 1.

Vagabond: Illustrated by Takehiko Inoue, “Vagabond” is a monochromatic series based on the fictional novel “Musashi” by Eiji Yoshikawa. It revolves around Shinmen Takezo, who becomes a skilled swordsman despite being shunned by his own parents and village as a child. The intense fights and historical context make “Vagabond” a compelling read
