Of all the romance shows (and shows with romance as a secondary aspect of the show) that i've seen, the only one I have personally been so interested to the degree that I am with this show is 'A Silent Voice'. I would argue however that that is less about romance and more about learning to value yourself, in spite of your problems.

Episode 1 - 4 of Season 1 I hated. A friend told me to watch it and I decided to but I hated Ichikawa. He was generic, edgy, cringe and overall uninteresting. The show has since shown that the two characters' perspective is so incredibly realistic and the way they explore their internal conflict and their attempt to be worthy of each other is done in the most satisfying way imaginable.

I won't go into depth about the visuals, sound and voice acting all being top tier (we all know they are) but I just feel like the pure quality of this show in both direction and writing has created a story that feels so much bigger than it is and its unlike anything i've ever experienced in a show that is limited to the real world.

Please let me know what you all think. I doubt many will agree that its the best to ever do it but I wanted to see if others felt the same way I do.

I do agree honestly, season 1 was very good but in the beginning I kinda hated kyo, he was annoying and cringe af (he can be a bit cringe still ngl) but he’s development as a character has been phenomenal.

Kyo’s development with his relationship with yamada has been also really good especially during season 2.

The animation is stunning and the music is also really good

Imo this is one of the best romance anime I’ve ever watched, it’s not my favourite but it’s definitely one of my favs.

I definitely have seen my fair share of romances, but this one hit different. The first season and second season feel really different, I don’t know if it’s character development?
But at the beginning I was not Ichikawa’s biggest fan. I started it because it looked interesting, but he kind of reminded me of Watamote (this is a personal opinion) and I wasn’t a huge fan. About halfway through the series is when it really started getting my attention, because he seemed to mellow out and it was really nice.
The romantic feeling really started to shine through and he began to think about how he wanted her to be happy. I don’t know exactly what changed but I’m glad it did. At the beginning I definitely cringed, but now I look forward to each episode and I leave each one grinning like a fool.

So I’m my opinion, it’s not the best romance anime of all time, but it certainly ranks higher on my list than others.

Decide for yourself, opinions are subjective and you haven't watched many anime to state something like "The best πŸ‘½" It's ok if you like it , but don't think it's better than other shows.
I would like to recommend you some of my favourite roms
Kimi Ni todoke, Maid sama, Ai yori aoshi, Kareshi kanojo no jijou, Tomo Chan wa onnanako, Clannad, Love is war, Tada kun wa koi wo shinai, My little monster, Violet Evergarden, Tamako market, spice and wolf
these are some of the anime that I could remember at this time which are IMO better than Bokuyaba. Just put them on your watchlist πŸ’™

Not the best ever. But a top 5 romance anime for new generation. This anime has something special, something that gives it its own identity. And I really think it has chances to consolidate itself as a suggestive example in this industry.

In my opinion, in terms of Rom-com genre, BokuYaba will probably be ranked 1-2 (I think Kaguya-sama is better in comedy and BokuYaba is better in romance). If you consider the Romance genre as a whole, it will probably be more difficult for it. In terms of scores on Myanimelist, it can be seen that Kaguya-sama, Fruits Basket and Clannad are above BokuYaba, in addition to OreGairu, Your Lie In April,.. ., from a certain perspective can also be considered better. But overall, BokuYaba did very well, and seems to be able to place it in the top 7 romance anime of all time.
(A bit of a side note: If The Angel Next Door were done better by Project no9, it would truly be the top 5 romance of all time, plot, situations and character development in light novels really amazing.)

For me, it has real potential. I still prefer Tsuki ga Kirei as a whole package since that made me feel a lot of emotions that I have not felt in other anime, and loved how well constructed the development of the relationship was even with some elements of drama and love polygons still there. But this anime has been improving so much since the first couple episodes and has been great and consistent since then. Every episode of season 2 has been so much fun and has had a ton of charm so I can't deny the potential to being the best is plausible. Regardless, it is one of my favorite romance anime of all time easily even now. Another romance-themed anime I did love as well was Insomniacs After School and last year, this and the first season of Dangers in my Heart were very close but the latter has the advantage due to having another season after and it being even better.

Only thing that I am curious about (even with the manga too) is how the series continues on and concludes in the long run, and will it find the right time to do so before any fall off. Kaguya-sama had an extremely great few episodes that can be one of the best romance-focused arcs in anime in the end of season 3, but the manga portion after that till its conclusion is incredibly inconsistent so who knows. In that sense, Tsuki ga Kirei is a complete package too and has an extremely bittersweet, yet satisfying and cathartic ending and since it was an original anime, never overstayed its welcome.

I would absolutely state that this is by far my favorite rom-com anime though. Don't think that's close.

There are few animes that make me look forward to the next episode and that make me very happy, and bokuyaba is definitely one of them. Everything about it is so well done that I wouldn't understand if someone who watches and likes romance didn't like it. I don't remember much about the romance anime I've seen, but this anime is definitely the best of the genre for me.

Maybe not the best but definitely in the top 10 if not the top 5.

Although this is not just a romance story, it's more about acknowledging yourself as you are and accepting that nobody is perfect even if they look like they are.

Actually, lots of people dropped it on after watching first 4 episodes aired weekly. However, most of them really made a big mistake looking down of this series when it started to skyrocket after episode 4 and has been very interesting since then until now which is already season 2. So, what I can say again, stop dropping anime when it is not yet finished, just watch it every week . We never know what they keep in store for us like this one πŸ‘πŸ» Definitely the best romance 2023/24 and one of the most wholesome romance anime of all time.

as someone said in here, its subjective. Me, personally, as much as i love this title, its one of my favs i wouldnt consider it the best romance of all time, certainly without a doubt it was the best romance of last year and arguably this year as well (although there are new titles that i think will be up therein the discussion). I just wonder on how much development, depth, storylines can the author still write when you have middles schoolers as the main characters.

Very wholesome anime but her being a model has always bugged me. Yeah I know I'm a hypocrite .He'll probably get NTR by her work and he'll just have to accept it because it's only "acting". It's just the way they've showed his insecurities towards her work and I'm a weirdo who gets too invested in fiction. Entrance exams really messed up my brain

No, it's the generic cutesy romcom with one dimensional characters. The characterization was mostly unrealistic. As a romance anime it hardly has much conflict. Although the inner monologues were decent to build some character, it's not something new. Besides the events and monologues were absolutely centered around the romance and the couple. I don't think this is very realistic that whatever a character does, has to be related to romance.

Nevertheless, the direction was quite good. So overall the show is not bad but not something I'll put alongside my favourites.

There was this sense of enlightenment when I read the White Day chapter months ago and that was when I realized the magnitude of it all, I've very much been on the hype train since.

Yes I do think this is the best ever romance. In terms of romance this shits all over Kaguya. All the other canon romances, I've watched or read most of them and though they are all great to varying degrees, none of them come near.

I’d def go as far to say that Ichikawa is the one of the best romcom MC’s out there. Him dealing with feelings of inferiority and self-loathing as he goes after his crush and learns to accept and love himself, it just feels so real and relatable and it’s not something that feels unreachable or impossible.

Unlike all these other romcoms where development is pretty minimal and dragged out, it feels like each episode of bokuyaba actually has purpose and contribution to the story’s development and you can see Yamada and Ichikawa getting closer and more honest with each other as time goes on.

I also appreciate the fact that both Yamada and Ichikawa consider the other to be on equal terms, unlike some of those romcoms (not naming any names) where either the boy or girl acts more superior over the other

“One dimensional character which centered around romance”, and among your favourites the romance title is Teasing Master Tagaki-San, well, well, well, everyone entitled to their own opinion.

Bar what everyone’s saying, whether it is best romance will be subject to everyone’s judgement. But one thing I am sure, this title’s impact will be alongside with Maison Ikkoku and Tsuki Ga Kirei, being the textbook of how to write and do non-action anime, from Character writing and development, storytelling, storyboard writing, OST to cinematography, this title will be referred again and again in foreseeable future as a gold standard.

Ah! I forgot, that thing is still there in my favourites. No, Takagi-san is not my favourite romance, not even in my fav 5. It's there because it was my gateway anime. Also it has almost no character development and mostly runs on the so-called wholesome moments of the characters.

Urusei Yatsura and Maison Ikkoku were the early non-shoujo romance comedy that handled both comedy and romance properly. Recent romcoms either prioritise comedy or romance and fail to do the other properly. So, following that trend BokuYaba did have some merit. Also the same can be said about Kaguya-sama.

But it's not about romance comedy, when you're considering the whole romance genre you have to compete with well written dramas(e.g Toradora , Oregairu, Clannad) and especially Shoujos(e.g. Furuba, Nana). This is where I don't think BokuYaba is on the same bar. Shoujos are generally best at writing romance and reasonable characters. Although being an original, Kirei follows the same shoujo formula.

I like the show a lot but I have seen a lot of these posts around the web lately putting it up there as one of the greatest of all time. For me its pretty average and it gets a bit tiring seeing people prop it up as some masterpiece. I realize that's not what this post is doing but I've seen that a fair bit. it's a good show. a solid 8. the character growth has propped it up from what I had originally had as a 7. But as always to each their own.

yeah, these show are all great, but dangers in my heart is most realistic and more characters oriented, development and with very depth music and most realistic voices for sure, maid sama was good but not my top 10, because of tsundare female but it's really good, and tomako market , anime is good but movie has actual development so I like movie more, but that doesn't compair to danger in my heart for sure. remaining all are top tear animes too.and is violent evergarden is romance??i didn't see that???mc died so how is it romance.i mean she loved her to death but bro why, then why didn't you add darling in the franxx ,she also loved him to death and future diary ,fl literally killed whole world for mc.and AOT.tada kun wa koi is this better then dangers in my heart,no way brh, you can keep this openion by your self you know what romance is but you also think romance can only show by comedy, sacrifice and all, romance can be show through romance and this show is doing that.

in terms of romance DANGERS IN MY HEART is best for me, all other animes all shows unwanted relationship, and due to comedy ,like kaguya sama , they compare them to dangers in my heart, i don't think that's good, dangers is a romance between a 13 to 15 years kids and it shown it's max potential. my favourite romance is clannda , now, all shows depends on something to make their romance grow like death, love triangle and useless misunderstanding and to solve that it takes whole fuking season, all romance shows will always shows a good looking mc ,kind mc as loner for no reason. or they are already developed characters, in danger in my heart they show actual growth of ichikawa and Yamada here, and how they help each other dispute their age, just because their favourite anime getting crushed they are giving hate to this show, i don't think I felt same excitement as this shown to any other romance for every single episode, I can say that for sure.dangers in my is pure romance.

Obviously this show is a real contender, just look at the number of responses.
I’d subcategorise it as equal best middle school romance alongside Takagi san, and overall they both make top 5 overall romance anime. After a shaky start, the pace builds consistently with irresistibly great support characters as well as an inevitable pairing that can’t be doubted. But then the execution is beyond brilliant, from music to lighting to set piece ‘camera’ panning in a way GoHands just wish they could imitate. The step by step way they keep growing closer without the predictable confession remind you that these kids are really young and have no need to rush. It’s nearly perfect to me.

It is close to being the best, but I don’t think it can really beat stuff like Clannad by Afterstory or Fruits Basket out YET. It might if it keeps developing amazingly like it has.
