This was great. Despite that, I'm sorry I guess the scene when Miyo was comforting her gloomy & negative self face-to-face reminded me so much of Naruto doing the same at the Falls of Truth when he was trying to get Kurama's chakra with B's help lol...

That final scene just stole my heart. The way Miyo's eyes raced around as she got flustered...as Reiner from AoT would say: Gotta marry her.

Well, this really did turn out to be Cinderella: Shrine Maiden Edition. I was weary of the shift towards the supernatural aspect in the second half of the show, but this episode really delivered on the worthwhile addition it brought to this Meiji fairy tale. Miyo's grown splendidly and now stands by Kiyoka's side as a true equal & wonderful wife-to-be. Though I don't mean that because she now has supernatural abilities. Rather, it's because Miyo continues to heal & discover her self-worth. She's finally learning what that abstraction known as family means to her and how her mutual devotion to Kiyoka leads her ever closer to her happy marriage.

I'm so overjoyed to know there will be a second season, as I can't get enough of the expanding chemistry these two have. I'm also hoping to see Kaya again, as I just get a good feeling about her potential. Whether that means she'll change for the better or become an even bigger villainess remains to be seen, of course.

8.5/10

The story started well. In the beginning, I loved it. I personally always wanted a romance anime like this. The slow and steady start and how Miyo couldn't marry the person she liked. The best part was when she reached MC's house and the gradual connection between the two slowly started to begin. I loved it all till then. The negative part would be *magic*. Personally, I think there was no such need for including magic in a romance anime of this kind. It felt so unreal and felt like it came out of nowhere. I could write in detail but I would do that in my blog. All in all, it's okay to watch it! (It's only my opinion people can have differences. Thanks!)

Great final episode. I feel the evil powers controlling things behind the scenes weren't really developed enough during the series and Miyo's powers were only discovered very late on but a visually stunning series and yeah it was a really cool final episode

I very much liked the first half of it, and the second half kind of lost me to be honest. I don't understand why we needed such a huge conflict in the second half of the show with no time to introduce the characters at all. I don't really like how the Usuba family was kind of written to be hateable characters that may or may not be evil only to not be evil at all and help solve the primary conflict, even though they were the ones that kind of started it to begin with. I don't understand why they would wait all the time they did until the Emperor paid them off to bring her back home so she wouldn't be able to protect Kiyoka, given that they do seem to genuinely care for her in this part of the show at least. They probably easily could've gotten her given how much her previous family hated her for being the redheaded bastard stepchild. And I don't understand what flamboyant emperor guy had to do at all with the plot, and writing him out of the show would've have changed absolutely nothing. Or maybe I'm just forgetting his contribution other than being the next heir after the old one exploded. Whatever.

Anyways, I don't really care much about the power scaling at all in this show as I don't think it's the point of it, so I did like how she was able to kind of confront some of the feelings that was holding her back from being happy and confident, even though I doubt at all something that short would resolve everything, but at least she has a happy marriage to work through the rest of it lol. This show is carried by Miyo and Kiyoka, so I did like it despite my criticisms. Oh yeah and his sister is awesome. Good ending to a cute show.

The only really good thing about it is the animation the rest is just forgettable imo.
That was what made me not drop it.
Really feels like I've seen the same story 1000x times.
It wasn't bad. Just boring.
6/10.

The biggest disappointment of 2023 for me.

The first episode or two really gave me the wrong idea about the show. It looked like a mature, thoughtfully-written period romance driven by the characters, but all along it was a tropey, wish-fulfillment magical-girl Shoujo romance. Maybe I have only myself to blame, but I can't shake the feeling that the show was actively trying to dupe people with its story setup and style.

I have a feeling that I won't even remember this show in a few months, instead of looking back on it in disappointment. Which is in itself disappointing.

The animation of this anime is very good, but not the story. I won't watch season 2, I think this couple drama is enough, I don't want to see it anymore.

The end...Miyo and her Danna-sama in a happy marriage.

I like that scene in the Saimori house. It's Jungian in that she had to face her old, self-denigrating Shadow. She was able to reconcile her current self who is striving for growth and what used to be her.

movie v. anime

In the movie ending, it's like a zombie apocalypse and the stakes are high for everyone.

In the anime ending, the stakes are lower. It's whether Danna-sama will live or not, and Miyo got to use her skill.

What happened in the anime as they beat the illusion are a bit meh compared to the movie version but the emotional moments between them are just as touching.

_____________

Before I watched this anime, having watched the movie, I was under the impression that the aim of this show is to manipulate the audience emotionally and they did it hardcore. It was one of the most emotional piece of media I watched this year. The plot on the other hand is thin. They're just there for the emotional moments and the fantasy elements are just decoration.

After watching this anime, I've changed my mind. The first few episodes were true to my presupposition. But with the intrigues, machinations, the backstory of Miyo's mom, the politics, I now think there's gonna be some semblance of a plot.

Season 1 is preparation but season 2 may develop that. It remains to be seen if plotwise the story will be good.

But for now, the emotional elements considered, I'll give this a high score.

I enjoyed watching season 1 and I'm looking forward to season 2.

Nicely looking ending, fitting the atmosphere of conjoined dreaming sequence and Kudo being under paranormal attacks. I didn't expect the Emperor to be so strong. Sure, it wasn't surprising to see him having abilities, when his son had them as well, but still, he was capable of casting a powerfully looking, complex psychic attack. Interesting.

I liked this show a lot. I'm surprised I did, because usually I'm not into that kind of anime, haha. Solid production quality, good and well told story.

The first half was great but the 2nd half, especially the usaba parts were lacklustre and boring. The story should have kept Mio as the girl without any powers and her coming out of the restrained shell she had her entire life and living a peaceful life with Kudo. 9/10 for the 1st 8 episodes. 4/10 for the rest.

WOW im in absolute awe. That was beautiful. It made me cry. Miyo is so brave cause the second the appeared at the Saimori house I would've backed out lol. She has grown so much!! I love that Kudo was able to help Miyo see her self worth and build her self esteem. She is so strong now. Miyo having to face her past self and acknowledging all her broken wounds and faults. It was so beautiful how she responded. The thorns surrounded her past because she was so delicate but her mistreatment made her build a thorn nest around herself to protect herself, then how Miyo broke past those and embraced her past. WOW JUST BEAUTIFUL!

I know a lot of people didn't necessarily like the supernatural aspect but I loved it!! For me it explained a lot of the story and I loved that it wasn't strictly romance. I'm not really a SOL romance so the action and supernatural aspect is what I'm really into. Miyo looked so pretty in her transformation clothes too ^.^ Alsooooo the post credits scene!!! Miyo was gorgeous, stunning, beautiful LOVEEEEE her dress!

This last episode was so wonderful!
What we can learn from it is to face our biggest fears, no matter how painful they may be, and that we ourselves can be the obstacle that does not let us evolve.
I really like it, cause I can relate at some point with some issues :))

That was a nice ending. The conflict with the emperor was a bit underwhelming tbh.

Now the family dynamics between Miyo and the Usuba family was what I wanted, especially with Arata, which was the complete opposite a few episodes back. Miyo especially has developed a confidence in herself, making her relationship with Kiyoka more healthy we love to see that.

Am surprised we get a season 2, because I assumed that'd be the end of the story. Wonder what season 2 brings us. 8/10

It's one of the worst stories I've ever seen and another useless and stupid heroine. Only the animation that I would give a good score. MC's character development is just trash. It's an overrated score to give this trash story more than 5/10. I regret I completed this shit, I thought this anime could be improved as the episode progressed but damn it wouldn't. DANG IT!

Finishing this was work. They dragged this out. The whole series was at least 33% longer than it needed to be. This could have been a 4 episode OVA. They didn't have the budget or the story or the resources for a 12 episode anime.

@NinaJewel season 2 has been announced for some time. Yesterday, we learn that season 2 will air January next year. I don't think so. Perhaps they'll have a child in season 4.

Rewatching Episode 12:

It's a wonderful ending for a wonderful season 1.

Miyo has reintegrated the ugly parts of herself, her Shadow. This is great character development for Miyo, but this is just the logical conclusion of developments such as choosing not to give up when she was tortured back in Episode 6. The imagery of thorns and holding them is great.

After she has done this, her clothing changed. She actually doesn't need to put on her Dream-Sight priestess kimono if she'll have one in the dream world. Anyway, this wonderful clothing is like spreading her wings as the most beautiful swan out there. Again, another beautiful imagery.

And her powers are great. Too bad I don't think we'll see them being used that much, even perhaps in Season 2.

Anyway, regardless of how this anime is received by others, I'm glad I watched and rewatch this.
