So I watched Digimon Adventure 2020.  One of the biggest differences to the og is that all the protags lost all sense of fear minus Joe and Mimi which still are way more brave.  The protags somehow seem more crazy and violent than the one note baddies they try to take down.  What makes it kind of creepy is that they are supposed to be kids like in the og.  Even Baki characters experience fear sometimes when they are very stoic and tough.  Do you like fearless mcs?

It's fun to see different types of MCs. Kazuma from konosuba is a funny character that can act like a coward, and it's amusing to watch. But there is a limit to how much of a scaredy cat characters have to be, like those annoying characters that just freeze up and do nothing. Personally, rather than loving brave characters, I just prefer that crazy ones

HELL YEAH, fearless OP AF protagonists such as this manliest manly man ever of fiction are the best type of MCs, such MCs gives me an indescribable rush of adrenaline.

While indeed fearless MCs are cooler and more pleasing to see, I don't mind if the protagonist weren't fearless as not all of them have impressive mental strength and bravery after all.

But I do dislike a main character who is a coward or cry easily, It is such a turn off...

Actually dislike them usually, ofc there’s nothing wrong with brave or fearless characters and i do love some but i prefer mcs (and characters in general) who show more emotion

Personally, I much more enjoy an mc who grows from fearful to fearless. But theres a fine line of being overly scared little baby man, and being an absolute gigachad just accepting their circumstance. two extremes i see alot more than an mc who generally grows from one to the other.

I'm fine with overly cool protagonists as long as it's realistic and exciting, and not so boring that you stop caring about it.

Nothing necessarily wrong with fearful MCs nor with fearless MCs—it's all about execution. It's cool to see a MC grow more brave over time though.

I found their behavior in the original to be relatable, back when I too was a child. Relatable heroes are important because they are inspiring.

That is stupid.

One thing is being brave and fearless when you clearly have an upper hand, like say Gilgamesh in Fate/Zero. He is stronger that everyone else there so no matter if he pisses anyone off, he can just kill them or stop in non lethal way.

The other thing is when odds are clearly against you like for Eren in AoT. He picks figts with people who are clearly stronger and gets beaten as a result.

The we also have Lelouch who acts both ways depending on curcumstances:

When shit does not go his way, he hides and dodges shit:

However when he has the upper hand it is this instead:

I like both for different reasons. A completely fearless character can be exhilarating to watch, and you get to enjoy the vicarious experience of their strength and confidence. But a character that shows fear is more relatable and we get to empathise and connect with them on a deeper level. Ideally a protagonist will show elements of both at different stages of their journey, building confidence as they work towards their goals.

It depends on the character. Some of the are quite annoying.

I like weak and pathetic MCs. They're more relatable.

It depends, sometimes fearless characters can be great but it's not like experiencing fear makes them a bad character. Well I don't like characters who succumb to their fears and are cringe and stupid but that has more to do with being too weak willed to overcome your fear.

Not really.
I like quirky main characters like Usagi from Sailor Moon.

Such questions usually never apply to me. I approach an anime with an open mind, without any preferential expectations. Ultimately, what matters to me is the execution. Therefore, I don't hope for the protagonist to have a specific type; instead, entering with the mindset of getting to know them, understanding their journey, and following their development. It doesn't matter because I believe that various forms and approaches can create something that captivates me.

"Do you prefer anime protags being fearless?"

The protagonist being the opposite of that really drags the plot, isn't it?

In the classic theme of the hero's journey, I like to see the MC gradually gain self-confidence as he/she gains experience, ability and control. This makes it much more relatable.

I highly prefer brave and fearless protagonists and can no longer stomach cowardly and spineless idiots like Alibaba, Masaomi Kida, Sayaka Miki or the MC's from Byousoku 5 Centimeter.

Of course i don't mind if they are fearful in appropriate situations but abandoning people in danger/your friends and/or the supposed "love of your life" to save your own skin or out of cowardice is something i won't tolerate at all!!!

A one-note character with no development is not ideal. It would make sense if the character developed to reach that state, though.

I don't have an issue with it as such, but not many of my favourites have 'fearless' MCs so I guess it's not a concept that excites me much

I generally find it pretty cool and badass when a character isn't afraid of the things that most people would be scared shitless about. But on the other hand, I also find it quite hard to believe that an individual can be completely immune to feeling fear in life, since fear is innate and is a basic survival mechanism. Even the people who don't care about surviving will have other kinds of fears within them.

Personally, I like both the realistically brave and unrealistically brave characters, but the kind of brave characters that I tend to like the most are the ones who have at least one fear that's known to the viewer.

I dont like any less like mindless, fearless, careless etc since its basic human nature for us without it in other words u are lame if u havent normal sense since its important part to indicate any situation from outside event like sad, mad, cautious, cozy, etc
