I lasted about 19 episodes of pokemon 2019 and this one lost me about half way through the first one 😅 Kinda boring and uninspired i thought. I liked how the first time we see our lead character we get a feel to how she's awkward when she doesn't know how to react to the girl waving at her friend... Only to have it spelt out to us 10 seconds later through inner dialog that she's shy and doesn't have friends... You guys enjoy this one, I'm out 😅 |

Never been a huge fan of Pokemon besides loving the original season (indigo league) as a kid, but I always felt it was too childish and repetitive, even then! and never really watched it again besides the movies and was continuously disappointed to check in every couple of years to see Ash was still a kid. I always felt if they put effort into making the series grow and hit the older demographic as Ash progressed/grew, it would've been MUCH more popular instead of keeping him as a kid! NGL this felt like an ACTUAL anime and not just a commercial for their merchandise. It was refreshing to finally get a female protagonist & Liko feels like such a genuine character, and the fact she is socially awkward & things don't magically resolve themselves is amazing! I really hope they keep this style of storytelling! and I love how they show how Pokemon living in harmony with people and reflect their person's personality! <3 |

Well, the first scene is very cool and there is a lot of pokemon that help daily tasks which are rarely seen in the normal series of pokemon. This brand-new character and story are very interesting. Can't wait to see how the story is going to end :) |

I love how they've changed the Pokémon world in the time skip from when ash was a trainer, I thought it was really cool how she started at a school having to learn how to use moves, I loved the new main character, I loved the little we have seen so far of the plotline with the new legendary. I stopped watching Pokémon halfway through sun and moon cause it got so repetitive and this is definitely a much needed refresh of the series and if it keeps on this trajectory it will be amazing How much time has passed? |

This didn't feel like pokemon at all. No, we don't need Ash and Pikachu screaming on every episode to it feel like pokemon, but this was totally different from what we've seen so far. And maybe that is good? This definitely seems like easy way to start pokemon if you're new to it and don't want or can't watch Ash's journey. First episode pretty much explained everything you need to know about pokemon world to get into it. But does this have something supernatural in it? Because of the necklace? I'll have to continue to watch to find out. |

usvaneko said: This didn't feel like pokemon at all. No, we don't need Ash and Pikachu screaming on every episode to it feel like pokemon, but this was totally different from what we've seen so far. I think the biggest difference is the setting. The world of Pokemon Horizons does not feel open and full of wonder and mysteries and dangers like the original show. Takeshi Shudo envisioned a dangerous Pokemon world where most of the setting was untamed wilderness. Most of the setting had not been settled. Infrastructure was underdeveloped and there were no paved roads to everywhere. If Misty fell off a cliff and broke her leg, she couldn't flip out a smartphone and call for help. There were mysteries like ghosts, threatening villains like Sabrina and her psychic powers, Team Rocket and their fleets of airships and secret bases, and so on. After Shudo left, the Pokemon anime gradually sanded off the edges, until by the time of Sinnoh the world wasn't threatening or dangerous anymore, so it feels like there isn't much tension. There are no mysteries like ghosts or out-there wacky stuff like Sabrina. It's a very safe, sterile world. The setting isn't interesting on its own merits anymore either. Every place they visit has the same boxy concrete buildings and people speaking the same language and have the same culture. It's a boring, homogenous, globalized world. Indigo League also had the dynamic of Ash and Misty's feuding, whereas here there isn't tension between the cast. Everyone is nice to each other. |

Sprigatito acts like every cat, I can feel that girl desperation about it lol. The villains seems to be more serious than other characters in the past (even if I'll forever miss Team Rocket), so far I like them. Hope they won't ditch the whole school settling after the first episode. Valyrian1124 said: Starts off in Kanto, depicts it as a tamed, civilized land with paved roads and modern infrastructure and highways everywhere like modern Japan rather than the dangerous, untamed wilderness of the original show. The show takes place in "Tokiwa city". Grey modernist buildings everywhere. They really should have just set in Japan. Well, that's because the original Kanto we see is probably a Kanto from the 70s with some futuristic technology. Keep in mind Satoshi Tajiri took inspiration for Kanto from his childhood memories in the Japan countryside, so you have it. Meanwhile, the modern Kanto is based on modern Japan. |

I haven't watched Pokemon in a long time. I was slightly flummoxed to learn that Ash finally won a league (other than the Orange Islands and Battle Frontier), and that the Pokemon Company would finally make way for another main protagonist. I went into this episode not knowing quite what to expect, but I was nonetheless pleased with what I found. This was a solid first episode, establishing our main heroine as an anxious but eager kid who's slightly in over her head, who will slowly learn the tricks of the trade when it comes to being a Pokemon Trainer. What I was certainly not pleased with is almost everything past the 18½ minute mark. I subscribe to the notion that a first episode should encapsulate exactly what the series as a whole will be. This episode did nothing of the sort. It showed us a random Deus ex machina, then ended on a cliffhanger. And I know for a fact that there's a whole other main character they haven't introduced yet. If you need to make ep 1 double the length of a normal episode, do so; just make sure the message you're sending to your audience is NOT "Tune in next time to have if you wanna have even the slightest idea what we're doing here or what the fuck's going on!" Furthermore, this shadowy organization really seems like something that a bad writer would turn into a season-long (if not series-long) intrigue plot, and the same goes for Liko's Deus ex machina pendant. If that last paragraph didn't clue you into this fact about me, I don't like stories that are extremely coy about actually TELLING their story, and that simply opt to dangle pointless mysteries over the heads of their audience. If we don't soon find out what the hell's going on with both of these elements (and who the hell the dude with the Charizard is), I won't hesitate to drop the series. |

Would you really prefer to be told the answers to these basic questions 50 episodes from now, or in the next episode? Which would make the story more engaging? The reason the writers aren't telling you the answers to these basic questions up front is that they don't want to engage you in their story; they want to drip-feed you clues so you'll keep watching as long as possible. It's addiction-based storytelling. |

The key to making a good story with a mystery is about knowing the right time and place to give the information. You may not know why the characters are doing what they do. That doesn't need to be revealed as soon as the characters are introduced. You can introduce the villain in chapter 2 but not get his backstory till chapter 12. Introduce the characters motivations and actions slowly. Don't dump it all at once. This is part of the thing I follow when I write my own book. |

A great start to this new era of Pokemon. There was so much happening already it was hard to take it all in. Liko is really fun and energetic, while also incredibly determined to learn and improve which I think is perfect for a protagonist. She also seems different enough from Ash for now which is great for taking things in a new direction. Sprigatito's initial defiance and hesitation in joining Liko was very reminiscent of Ash and Pikachu, though overall this was the biggest similarity I noticed. The school setting is an interesting choice given we only just had Sun and Moon a few years ago, but again this one is very different and much more of a traditional Japanese school setting. I'm glad Liko actually has parents/grandparents (even if we didn't get to see them yet) as a full family of supporting characters is something we haven't really gotten until now. Her pendant is definitely something special although we don't really know why as of just yet, but clearly those new bad guys are after it for some reason. The new professor was cool and I'm glad that there was a bit of action at the end. Now I just need to see part two to get some more answers as the ending to this episode was extremely abrupt.

Very strong first episode. I've been waiting to watch this because I've heard other pokemon anime start off good too before eventually f-ing around, but apparently 40 episodes later this one still has an ongoing plot and good sakuga. So after watching parts of DP and XY growing up, this will be the first pokemon anime I officially see 😁 Liko is so cute. I love how she is a little social anxious, quite the match for her lazy weed cat. Hmm of course the good guy that saves her has a fucking charizard. Other than starting off in Kanto instead of Paldea, I enjoyed it a lot. I hope some characters from the gen 9 game like Iono or Arven show up because I loved them. |
