They say rogues/assassin type classes are just cowards in disguise because they are centered around thievery and hiding, often with straight up invisibility skills.

That tanks are attention maniacs who want to be in the center of attention, because they are always the front line and usually the center of the party, if the tank falls... everyone else dies soon after usually.

Barbarians/warriors are toxic masculinity made into a trope

bards or other charisma based classes are just hoes/charlatans/scammers and mages are nerds while healers are basically control freaks with god complexes.

Do those stereotypes sound true to you, what class do you play?

i play an archer because i dont like rulebooks

melee can be okay, for openquest it was fun because i just put points into close combat and athletics and rushed with a giant axe. other systems (ahem dnd), too much bs for me to want to be anywhere near the action

but positioning is the one tactical thing i can actually think about so that makes me even more of a archer/ranged attack type. even if i think about positioning like its a first person shooter

Very interesting thread.
Reminds me to one of my most favorite games, Final Fantasy Tactics in PSP.
The classes I play (5 people in group):
1 Arithmatician (can use black, white and time magic - using mathematics to locate the enemies and ally for magic casting).
1 Holy Swordsman (can use holy, dark, divine knight's skills)
1 Holy knight (can use holy magic sword)
1 Dark knight (can use dark magic sword)
1 Sky pirate (can do multiple hits with any weapons)

I prefer either spellcaster/magician or healer, they tend to have better looking skill effects than other classes ^.^

I would like to criticize your simple breakdown here since I've met a great variety of personalities to all rpg roles and you don't list positives which is a shame... That said I don't have a god complex but I have mainly played as a support/healer in the past and usually end up leading a guild so I did have control.

I'm a data guy instead of a role player. I study the game mechanics, look at the skill tree, figure out how leveling works, then I pick what I think either makes the game the easiest or what's the most interesting to play. Maybe I'd randomly pick a class to figure all this out before picking my "real" character.

Usually a spellsword or battlemage.
I like hybrid classes that use both mage and warrior attributes.

mages because they usually have the most destructive capabilities. I like to press 1 key and everything on the screen dies

Ogre battle (the march of the black queen) has most interesting and complex leveling mechanics I know in games that I have ever played. Leveling up a character to a new class requires very thoughtful process and strategy in the battle map, including which enemy you have to fight and their levels to either lower or increase your character's charisma and alignment. You cannot just kill any enemy you want. It depends on your character class and the potential you see in him (does he have good intelligence? If yes, its good candidate for black mage). For example, killing enemy at lower level reduce your charisma and alignment. Killing a paladin at same level decrease your alignment. To gain a mage class (black magic user), you would need low alignment character with high charisma (because mage is a character that can lead a small army, and its a black magic user). So simply leveling up a character without paying attention to their stats can be dangerous, because then you will never get that character to gain new class forever, might as well dismiss him forever.

"RPG games"
"Roleplaying game games"

But for real, I'm almost always a healer because they're the most needed class and nobody wants to play as them.

The ones which looks the nicest in a game, sometimes it is Shadow/Assasin, sometimes a classical Tank/Shielder or sometimes something else. I always pick by what looks nicest in a game so I literally don't care what it does, in one game I've picked a healer cause it looked nicest and I wast still in first line to deal damage some sort of "Healer Berserker", so in the end I'll always play in my own style.
Will give few examples:

Black Desert - Shielder/Swordsman - Dark Knight [ I don't remember how that class was called ]
Dark Souls/Elden Ring - Katana build
Skyrim - Shielder/Dual Wielding build
Lost Ark - Gunner - Gunslinger
Metin2 - Warrior - Body
New World - Shielder with Sword 1st weapon set + hatchet/berserker 2nd weapon set
Path of Exile - Shadow

In others MMORPG/RPG which I;ve played but can't find any screenshots/memories most likely I picked some sor of swordsman

Anything cute and magical. Healers are easy, but if the cute is also strong, then I'll pick that.
