i think this was pretty good overall. i've watched too many time travel anime/shows/movies/etc to start getting all big brain on the time travel elements and paradoxes/inconsistencies and needlessly pointing out where things are just plain wrong/shouldn't be playing out a certain way.

what really irked me was how dense naho was. as soon as she saw that the letter was matching up with the present, i dont know why she couldnt push herself to follow her future self's advice. actually naho is even dense in the future - like she fr didn't realize that kakeru had a crush on her in high school?? bruh-- i don't even understand why they kept saying they liked each other and then acting like it was the first time either of them had said that lol; didn't really make sense for them not to start dating either. i mean whether they were dating or not made no difference because kakeru was already heavily involved in naho and everyone else's lives. feels like a lot of things were just pointless drama lol

i dont remember where i read this but someone was complaining about why naho and her friends cared so much about saving kakeru since they hadn't even known him for a year and weren't best friends or anything. i mean i think it makes sense that they would want to save him - like the whole group was friends with him and he just suddenly dies one day; i feel like that would be pretty traumatic for a group of high school kids. if they're still thinking about him 10 years later then obviously his death had a big impact on them - especially when they start blaming themselves and wishing that they could have done more.

edit: just wanted to add in a big fat screw you to the youtube algorithm who - every so often, for the past 4 years - have put "ORANGE - KAKERU'S SUICIDE ATTEMPT" in my video recommendations. literally never looked up a single orange video on youtube and i have KAKERU'S SUICIDE ATTEMPT KAKERU'S SUICIDE ATTEMPT KAKERU'S SUICIDE ATTEMPT KAKERU'S SUICIDE ATTEMPT thrown in my face so many times that it's been etched in my brain. thanks so much for the spoiler, youtube - really appreciated it.

The whole time we watched the anime, all the episodes, we had to worry that Kakeru would not commit suicide ಠ∀ಠಠ‿ಠ😅 It was a good anime anyway

Meh, the series overall was okay, just about above average. The characters were kinda annoying thoughout. The romance stuff was painfully cringe at times and I wish the characters would just say what they wanted to say instead of bottling up everything. I understand that this creates suspense, but I thought they massively over did it in this show.

Like I said though, just about above average, 6/10.

Plus note, the art was stunning at times.

From a character perspective, I would think Kakeru would feel manipulated upon learning about the letters. Every action they did regarding him was instructed. It makes the friendships feel almost superficial. I dunno, it just rubs me the wrong way how well he took it. Everything just ended too...perfectly.

Soundtrack waz pretty chill and calm, fits the vibe of a very "healthy" show. The animation though sometimes look weird and creepy.
Somehow passing the ep7 or 8 mark, things just felt dragged out, and each of the final episodes was also kinda meh, predictable and repetetive.
The setting was not too bad, a life redone type of idea, but it just does not develop much more from here.
It was not a bad show, nor memorable.

those dumbass kids spent so much effort on making trivial daily things better for kakeru as if the guy didn't have (I assume) clinical depression. how they even managed to save him is beyond me. you're telling me that getting a gf and hugging his pals was enough to cure someone who was seriously contemplating suicide on the daily? jfc they should have hooked the poor guy up with a therapist. this anime is superficial bullshit and the characters just make it worse. 3/10 I watched 90% of this anime in 1.5x speed and it still felt too long

I wanted to give it 8, but I think I can't. It is anime that is very hard to rate.
OP was ok, but nothing great, ED was not.

Art had different style, but sometimes was very bad, you can see they were short on money, but there were many non-main characters on the streets and school, so it was nice that cities weren't dead.

Naho, but Kakeru also were sometimes very stupid. I can believe that a Japanese girl is shy, but not shy+dumb at the same time. She made very little progress, even though anime states she evolved as a person. The rest of the characters were ok, but their reactions were also stupid sometimes, like when everyone started laughing for no good reason. Hiroto and Azusa were my favorite characters, but I was sad that Hiroto sacrificed his future, the author should at least give him another nice girlfriend as he was popular. I was sad that Azusa and Saku did not start dating, I would want to see that.

The story on the other side was great. It was fun to watch. I was also happy they a gave good explanation to how they sent the letters. One thing I did not catch was how Kakeru wrote the letter in their digged time capsule in previous timeline if he was dead? In new timeline he dodged that truck and after that they did that capsule thing.
Some funny moments. The anime failed to make me sad, maybe because it was almost obvious from the start.

It was nice to see that good friendship, but also it was kinda fake. If not the letters, they would not care so much about Kakeru.

I hate it when anime/manga that I enjoyed ends, especially when there could be much longer plot and when I love main heroine :P

Orange tells you the story of a simple and deep romance, along with that of true friendship. It combines it with scenes from the present and the future, where you get to see this group of older friends come together to commemorate Kakeru's death. It's not just a love story, it also brings together heartbreak with sacrifice, with bravery and with sadness. If you knew what your future was going to be like, and it was described to you without a person you cared about, but tried to guide you so that it wouldn't happen, what would you do?

It's not just following a few simple steps, it's having to deal with every single consequence. It's planning beyond the first decision. It's involving your life in someone else's, who you know will not be easy to pull out of their depression. And you must keep in mind that nothing is written after you have already made new decisions.

This was such a great way to end this anime. Someone was cutting too many damn onions this episode.

I'm so happy they managed to save him, it was all because they made so many happy memories with him that he didn't want to die in the end. The letter time-travel wasn't fully explained but whatever IDC.

I wonder what the movie has in store for us.

I'm going to rate this 9/10 overall. If I had to objectively rate it by pointing out everything bad with it etc. then I would rate it like 7.5. I'm rating it 9 becuase it was able to emotionally resonate with me, I got attached to the characters in just 13 episodes and was legit hoping the Kakeru doesn't suffer anymore and doesn't commit suicide. All these factors came into play and I rated this anime adaptation a solid 9/10. Most of my 10/10's are not because the story was great without any plot holes or the soundtrack and animation were top notch but because the anime was able to make me feel, it was able to make me get attached to its characters, it made me dissolve in its story, it made me love the characters, their world and their life stories. Orange came pretty close to this, thus the 9/10.

Looking forward to the movie.

I love this series so much. The way they tried everything to give him so many happy thoughts that he didn't want to die. I wish people were more like that in the real world instead of only focusing on the negative things.

I'm so annoyed that naho dint end up with suwa because from the parallel world they sent the letters she ended up choosing suwa without having feelings for him so yeah I give it a 7 also the animation was quite disappointing at times so that's why I give it a 7 .The message the series communicates tho is very profound and meaningful...

I want to appreciate Hagita above all for his actions this time. Hagita-sama the savior.

He broke Kakeru's bike! That's really the right move. Imagine if Kakeru rode a bicycle that night, his speed would be faster than walking and he might actually get hit by the truck. Then what they did was all in vain. Of course, the present Kakeru is happier in living his days than Kakeru who has died but if in the end both Kakeru still die, then what's the point? Nothing. All in vain. So Hagita is the MVP in this episode! He is the savior. Gonna miss him and I hope there is a future in a parallel world where Hagita and Azu get married! Hahah.

I keep being patient and keep watching until the final episode to see these.. oh my, I'm so happy.

My favorite moments are when Kakeru and Naho have lunch on the rooftop, also when they all hug each other on the side of the road.

Kakeru.. although I don't know whether in the end he will marry Naho or not, but I hope he continues to live and feel happy. And for Suwa, he is the best. There are no other words that can describe Suwa other than the best.

I haven't read the manga but I honestly really like the storyline. The animation is a bit trashy in some parts and episodes but the seiyuus did so well that with a good storyline and good voice acting I think it's covered.

So I am trying to decide if I want to watch it. From what I get she end up with the friend anyway despite still having feelings for Kakeru if that`s the case this is so bad from her side even if we have Kakeru and non Kakeru ending . So are they together at the end or Naho did this horrible thing of will be with second option because the first isn`t alive ?

I think the ending was just perfect and very original, they didn't make a sudden plot twist or do something that would lose the value of the purpose of this anime!
It was very nicely done and while some people can't quite understand Kakeru,
He was probably the most authentic and original character in the series...

i think it was b/c kakeru was mostly depressed due to his mom. he didn't really have any attachments on earth so committing suicide and "going to be with her" was appealing since in his mind, he wasn't leaving anything behind. by having strong friendships, he would at least have something to live for.

i've worked w/ suicidal people and it's at least semi realistic since positive actions do make them think twice about committing suicide. most people don't actually want to kill themselves and someone simply reaching out can delay or stop them from committing. it doesn't cure their depression ofc... but they can only heal if they're actually alive. and the whole "thank you for saving me" is honestly real sometimes. the entire series makes a thousand times more sense if you've experienced suicidal episodes yourself or intervened with someone who did.

A good ending. Naho's in-decisiveness was a tad bit annoying (c'mon Naho he's hates himself and is suicidal put more effort into it!) but it was still really enjoyable. 7 out of 10 for me.

So glad that my prediction from a few episodes back was incorrect and Kakeru did in fact survive.

Just like others have pointed out, this series did have it's flaws including the animation quality in some of the later episodes, but I still enjoyed it overall.

Well that...was interesting.

For most parts, I think they got the usual Kakeru and Naho drama/chemistry right for the finale. That's also one hell of an embrace. So long!

For most parts, this was actually pretty faithful to the manga, not much change in dialogues either. Pacing is slow but that was expected given the content didn't have many chapters to begin with. Most of the dialogues and narratives are what I enjoyed the most from the show. 7/10. Wish they put effort into the animation at some episodes. Happy ending though :D
so I’d like to ask in the future if she ended up having a kid with someone else why did she like the mc. Or was it like a alternate timeline? Since

Definitely one of the worst anime in my list
The melodrama was a tad forced, and you couldn't relate to any character, even those who got through depression and suicidal thinking can't relate to the mc(from experience).
The worst was the fmc and her husband, despite knowing that they got child, give up on him for their friend who they knew for a week 10 years ago...meh

It's a beautiful ending. It salvaged the anime which was quite a snoozefest.

What doesn't sit well is that practically all bending over backwards they did for Kakeru wouldn't actually matter. The difference that mattered was 4-eyes guy wrecking his bike.

Honestly i found a diamond while trying to clear decades old "plan to watch" history.A show which ages like fine wine and the full extent of appraisal can only be met then.Iam very thankfull they didn't let go off the hook for covering the romantic interest. It went to length putting light onto the angst which a suicidal human feels without overly being optimistic about the light at the end or be very simplistic which many shows on similiar themes doled out .As someone who had have episodes of depression for more than a decade or so ,some of the dialogues of MC felt very relatable and so did the emotions he felt .
Iam glad he got the best circle of friends one could dream of.The fmc had a fabulous outpour of words at the end .

Decent anime. Very slow with poor pacing. The characters are way too shy at times for their own good, to the point where I was pleading them to just speak to each other. The characters are all likeable, but we don't get enough time with any of them.

I feel like this would have been better a little edgier. Very saccharine world and characters. Mean girls aren't all that mean. Bullies mostly just yell and tease. There's not much conflict in this world. We get glimpses of a toxic relationship with the mom, but in the end it was all just a misunderstanding. The topic feels very mishandled, like a young girl imagined her perfect fantasy boyfriend having the perfect fantasy problems she alone could solve without much effort. That's fine, but I'm not really the target audience.

I got really bored of the back-and-forth over his self-hatred and the relationship overall. The dynamics between the other characters go nowhere, which is a shame. The blonde and Hagita were a way more interesting couple. Could have used more conflict with Suwa too.

The best part of the dramatic writing definitely had to do with avoiding future plans and commitments because he might not be around. The pushing away moments were also decent, especially when Naho finally decided to act. Mediocre otherwise.

Still some nice moments. Some deeply sad moments. A bit boring sometimes, but I don't regret watching.

If anything, it made me sad I didn't have people like this in my life.

Ok we got the happy ending. I mostly liked the story it definitely at some point felt bad/awkward to me due to certain character actions. The animation also sadly was quite lacking at times. So overall the anime is about a 7. It could've been much higher but at least it wasn't much lower.

When I have time i'll read/finish the manga. Probably enjoy more since less animation/quality issues and the bad parts the pace will much quicker when I read through.

Also love that Hagita actually broke Kakeru's bike. Like that one random thing I thought wasn't going to happen since everyone ignored it was actually crucial lol to them saving him. Like all their efforts, love and support might've been useless if Hagita didn't break the bike

AMAZING
The ending was so satisfying i honestly thought it was too good for it to be the real ending because i expected a bitter one like most of the times with this type of stories, luckily for me that wasn't the case and it really was a breath of fresh air watching something like this
I'm glad i gave this one a chance and i'm a bit shocked it took me so long to do so

I thought it was kind of odd they just had Naho on her own basically to help Kakeru. It kind of feels like they needed to push the plot along and needed her to be the one, with most of the burden. Kind of feels inconsistent, with how the second half was going with all of them revealing the letters.

I thought the interesting is ok, a nice feel good ending. That said the reveal at the end of the letters and role it plays I think is probably best and the worst part of the plot. Suwa and Naho having letters feels like the only important part of the time travel aspect of the show. Sure, the other characters have letters, but they play such a minor aspect. The story could really have taken an interesting turn, if Suwa switched places in a sense or some repercussion took place. The ending was safe, which is what I think holds back the story from being amazing.
