| I took the candle flames to represent the level of infatuation she had with Akio. She started out fully infatuated and gradually talked herself down over the course of the episode, partly based on moral reasons and partly based on her desire to be with her prince, but it did flare up at times, such as when Akio made his move in the car. I don't think they slept necessarily slept together, and with it left vague I will assume they didn't since despite her infatuation I have a harder time believing Utena would go through with that. It's sad that she struggles with the promiscuous types. Still, this episode was particularly disturbing with Akio's manipulation and depravity on full display. It's no surprise Anthy is disturbed by him, especially since even Utena isn't safe from his lust. |
| One of the strongest and most captivating episodes since the first arc wrapped up. Finally, we spend some time developing Akio and Utena's relationship. It seems to be taking quite a while for Utena to make the connection to Akio being her prince, but I have a feeling it's coming soon. And now that she's had that passionate kiss with him, things sure seemed awkward around his fiancee. I think Anthy considers Utena her prince, which is going to make things difficult if she's pursuing Akio at the same time. I don't want to see Anthy get hurt :( Utena was spot-on when she called Akio a playboy. He's even managed to seduce his fiancee's mother! (That foot-rubbing scene becomes squicky when you consider he's essentially sexually charming his stepmother.) |

| Well that was uncomfortable. In all sorts of ways. Doesn't make the episode any less good, I guess. Lycan said: I don't think Utena's type are playboys at all. I think she is just genuinely confused about her feelings and why people have such an interest in her. It's daunting and a bit scary when smooth talkers approach you. Exactly. It seems some people are missing that little important detail that we're talking about a teenager. She has no idea what the hell she's doing, which is normal. What isn't normal, or acceptable, is what Akio is doing. I don't like having to watch Utena in this situation either, but the blame isn't on her. |

| What? No mysteriously appearing Touga to summon the pimp mobile? Akio is such a playboy, she has fiancee, her mother, Utena, Touga and Wakaba under her charm. Plus her sister even if he didn't try to do anything with her in this episode. Looks like Utena's defences against Akio went from full 3 candles to zero. Not sure if they banged but that stolen shoe is pretty easy to understand that he stole something else. But Utena would not do that? |

| This episode was pretty uncomfortable to watch due to Akio's behavior, tbh. Really interesting development though. I love the candelabre symbolism (which I believe shows the decline of Utena's feelings for Akio as she realises that it's wrong to love him instead of her prince). However, I'm still wondering about the changing imagery in the window of the Utena's bedroom. Now there're two moons there. What do they represent? In Japanese 'moon' and 'love' sound almost identical, and the former is often used to symbolyse the latter. So it might mean that Utena and Anthy really love each other. They have yet to realize it, though. The shadow girls seem like a parody of Utena and Wakaba today. The one dancing is Wakaba, and she's trying to tell Utena that she should enjoy 'dancing in her shoes' (love) as long she's able to. The other girl (Utena) is hesitating, telling the dancing one that putting on the shoes is wrong. Also, Anthy is creepy af. Especially when she's standing with the candelabre. It seemed to me that the shadow between her legs looked like a shadow of some balerine's legs. I even thought that it's a reference to shadow girls scenes. Did I mention that Akio's voice is extremely hot? It's hot. |

| Slowly (very slowly, actually) but surely this show got interesting. And for me, it's because of the increase of mysterious and sometimes creepy scenes (like Anthy with candles). I like the theory about Akio manipulates everyone with the help of Anthy. So maybe this time Anthy helps Akio to manipulate Utena's feelings. This could explain why Anthy was shown near them doing some kind of a countdown with candles. |

| What I learnt this episode is apparently Akio is shagging like literally everybody. I mean every character in this show is 100% shagging him, will be shagged or has been shagged. Also Akio, this chad, has a thing for feet, I mean he is a foot fetish guy. Honestly, I don't know how to feel about that oof- |

| Kanae disappears for nearly 15 episodes just to show up and get NTR-ed by her own mother. Damn. Also, Akio's presence and voice exuded so much sex this episode I almost ended up finding his character charming. Such a shame it seems Utena didn't learn anything after what happened with Touga. Anyways, at least Utena falling for Akio feels way more believable than when she thought Touga was her dear dark-skinned prince. |
