Tokyo Esperion's diagonal run has secured the equalizer, and they feel more confident now that this is their key to winning the match against Musashino.

Aoi's moving his team around like a chessboard despite being a full-back/defender, and he feels great with the others following his lead and slowly confusing Musashino's defense like a devil, to score yet another goal. From then on, it's a complete rout onto Esperion's victory road, even to the point of Kaneda feeling like his year of training for this very day, all came undone. And to Musashino, Kaneda is their only current stronghold, and throughout their history as the inferior J-Youth group all the while, it's of no doubt with Coach Satake bringing him in is a sign of chance and vengeance against their long-standing mortal enemy that is Tokyo Esperion.

At the end of the day, Esperion won 4-2 against Musashino, and the 2nd half was definitely a strain on everyone. But where's there's risk will see rewards, and Aoi and his pals are promoted into the A team. Aoi, most certainly was thankful for Coach Nozomi's teachings and Coach Satake's speech about him as a so-so player but with techniques that only Esperion can muster him together. However, one minor slip and he (like the rest) will fall back to the B team, so take things one step at a time and grow.

While the rest are celebrating their promotions, Aoi chooses to take a walk outside in the rain, which Hana caught up with him and he celebrated the same with her. Though he was definitely surprised that she hugged him instead, and both hid in the nearest shelter amidst the heavy rain. Hana was defo looking for her old man Fukuda with the same esteemed feelings from back then she was a kid (but with Aoi being the next generation's stand-out), but with his injury, she can only cheer Aoi on as a replacement, which he is OK with her passing all the support from her traumatic past.

The encouragement from Hana to Aoi as a fan though, it's the aforementioned kiss on the forehead (which manga readers have been waiting for). And to Aoi and the others, their start line into Tokyo Esperion's A team has just begun.

What a great series, hope a Season 2 will be announced in the near future.

Man, Hana’s so precious.

Well that was a pretty enjoyable season. Wish the animation was better tho. It kinda ruined the games for me. I really expected much better from Haikyu’s studio in that regard and that’s why I « only » gave it a 7/10 overall.

What a solid way to end the first season off, with the promotion we have all been waiting for which feels earned, and a somewhat unexpected kiss from Hana. I hope the next season has better animation though, consistently and not just at times.

Dunno how but somehow every episode after he joined the club gave me chills. Probably the directing to be praised here.

What a journey since April and here we are at the last episode. That romance in the rain and Ashito is finally on the A team, can't wait to see how he'll do there and how will he get along with that arrogant douchebag. Nevertheless, it was an outstanding football anime and we definitely need season 2 , especially with how this season ended

Agreed. The love triangle is cringe.

Good anime (7.5/10 for me, so I gave it a generous 8). Some things bothered me though, such as the anime feeling like a slideshow a lot of the time. Also, I understand that the point of view of the coaches/managers that it's better to let players learn and think for themselves, but they take it to the extreme. It felt like the coaches didn't teach them anything at all, so what were they actually doing? Isn't it their job to make sure the players get better and learn the system lol.

This episode really showed the progress that Ashito made as he’s more consistent than ever, as always he assessed what’s in front of him and found alternatives not only that though he instructed others more effectively and was more involved in those plays it wasn’t him setting others up (playmaker) he even managed to score one himself which really struck well with me personally as you see his change in roles being a big tole on him.

Another element of this episode that I give credit for is the end!
It simply can’t be dismissed as if it didn’t happen,
Yes we’ve seen romance in Sports anime before like Major Series but whenever I see Hana and Ashito interact with each other it makes me feel like Im watching anime a few years back again there some sort of nostalgia taken place i felt so tense as to what would happen next like a white girl would with Twilight or Vampire Diaries and just loved the setting and the way the Hana conveyed her confusion to Ashito.

They have so much to us with this episode as they finally put a stop to that long ass match and we seen the real start of Ashito and Hana’s relationship! ❤️

HOPING THERE'LL BE ANOTHER SEASON, SO HYPE !!

the main character development plus Aoi & Hana's chemistry literally carried this last episode, great ending 10/10. as a person who basically used to watch football/soccer (huge fan of Brazil FC & FC Barcelona) and haven't watched anything related to it for years, I really did enjoy watching this anime from the beginning to its last episode especially the way they explained everything about the game/characters/positions/etc, very realistic imo. also gotta love those irl football references :))

- Takes three marks away from the small area and plays them like a fiddle.
- Scores a goal.
- Mindbreaks trash-talker opponent.
- Ends match in fantastic physical condition.
- Gets promoted to Team A.
- Gets praised by rival coach.
- Gets hug and sweet kiss from waifu.

Chadest episode in all Ao Ashi without a doubt.

Now seriously, it was mostly a nice series overall. The way it approached football tactics and strategies was great but I also gotta say its drama was pretty bad for most of the runtime: the entire first cour basically being "Aoi. You will never play football again if you don't do X or Y thing.", the coaches not teaching/advising shit to Ashito despite being... coaches, the whole harassment deal with Akutsu, Kaneda being a major butthurt, etc.
Not to mention animation and art style were pretty inconsistent during a few important episodes, which was concerning given that Production I.G's sports anime are almost always above average in terms of production values.

But yeah... other than that, I still enjoyed this show quite a bit.

7/10 - Also yeah, looking forward to a sequel announcement someday. Even if that now means seeing dickhead Akutsu harassing Ashito on a daily basis...

the tiniest smidge of romance at the end? lol. A hug & a forhead kiss lol,
And season 1 (or this season anyway, dunno what future plans are) ends with Aoi on the A team.
this series had it's ups and downs but was overall enjoyable for me at least. I will keep up with Aoi & Esperion's journey if we do get a continuation!
