Edgerunner is fricking awesome!

Ok first of all, here's why:
-This is Gainax/Trigger technical best! and also probably the best cohesively narrative from them. We would no longer suffer through 25+ dragged long episodes that they usually do, that often just filled with unnecessary comedy and quirky moments. Here's, everything put at the right amount; we got our regular Trigger's quirky styles cranked up to the max, but also around the half point they slow down to became collected and mature. And honestly, it's so uncanny that Trigger's could achieve this level of intimacy without losing their soul in the process (looking at you Darling in The Franxx and Guren Lagan)
-The story itself wrapped around their 10 episodes and feels so complete. All the characters arc are served and fulfilled beautifully under the rapid-fire pacing without any single down or dull moments. It's rare nowadays to find such a cases. Even Arcane doesn't contain herself with only 1 seasons right?
-It doesn't hold back! This thing is wild, unconstrained and uncensorable. They're taking perfect advantages of the Trigger's styles and quirky formulas to blended that maximally with the medium vast capabilities. Resulting in delivering a beautiful scenery, a top-notch fluid animation, a masterful action-scene, and basically a fire after fire every single episodes! And everything! i repeat, everything! Is not there just for the sake of being stylish, but every single component here are essential details in the progress of building this dystopian world without any sugar-coat!
-The soundtrack are AMAZING!

My minor complaint:
-The runtime is too short, I NEED MORE! There's a part of me that wanted them to slow down and explore properly the intricate details of all the characters that they've introduces. And all of them are fricking interesting! But then i realise this rapid-fire pacing is also part of the charm
-Yes, i would proudly says that this is Arcane's boys-version. Being both also derived from a game (how coincidently is that?). But as much as i love this show, gonna be honest Arcane's still slightly better for me: That's show are full on characters driven on crack. And not knowing the game (or even not intending to afterwards) would not stop you from calling that show a masterpiece. Edgerunner on the other side, are still divided on where to put their full attention on. You could clearly notice that they're still wanting to promote the world of Cyberpunk 2077 alongside character development, and that is why the plot-progression would become kinda restricted

But after all that's been said, i really loves this show. Probably the best anime so far in 2022. Netflix on anime adaptation or spin-off based off a game are on fire recently, hope they could keep up this great trend!

If I were truly honest about the anime, the art, music and characters is mostly great just that the later parts felt rush and the deaths of the characters felt meaningless.

So indeed. Adam Smasher had to be sent to confront David Moralez. The mission was doomed the moment Arasaka decided to use Smasher in their operation.

Kiwi was betrayed by Faraday, Rebecca and David got killed by Smasher, but at least Faraday had to eat everything he had cooked before by meddling with corporations and people whom he hired.

Falco and Lucy ended up as the only members of the old crew that survived. Lucy's dream has finally come true. Quite bittersweet ending, but for Night City's everyday reality I say it was one of the happiest endings possible.

Ahh, what an anime it was. Edgerunners were rather a feast for eyes and a rollercoaster of emotions. Thank you so much for creating such awesome anime, Studio Trigger!

I feel like shit. But the show did nothing wrong. It was obvious from the start that things were going to end the way they ended. I think that it's the show's virtue for making us THIS invested on the characters in such a short period of time.

I'm extremely salty and impotent, even though that it follows the show's themes to the letter.

Such a great ride.

Have to say I had pretty low expectations for this show but wow Netflix actually surprised for once, thoroughly enjoyed it. It was pretty good for a 10 episode show. Only gripe is best girl Rebecca dying, why they couldn't they have let her at least live? Saw David dying a mile away but I think Lucy should've died as well. Might as well have killed them all in the end but there was a sorrowful charm to this ending as well to see Lucy fulfill her dream as David wanted her to from the start.

The fact that Becca and David died at the end was to be expected but it's the way they died that felt wrong. I can understand why they made them dirty like that, to night city they are nothing special (even if David spend half the show saying the opposite lol) but they are still the main characters of the show. Sudden death of importants characters can be great when the aftermaths are not rushed and affects other characters. Look Jacky from 2077, there is an entire quest about his funerals. In edgerunner, the main characters die, end of the show. Rebecca died like a freakin arasaka npc and we barely got to know her before. We dont know why she and her brother became cyberpunks, if they were nuts from the start, why she walks around in her undies kek. Almost the same for Maine, there were hints of his life, but almost nothing. The deaths could have been way more meaningful if the characters had proper characterisation and reacted properly when they happen.

Seems like Studio Trigger is back on track. Really good short anime. Amazing visuals (and music by Akira Yamaoka). The characters felt somewhat simple but I don't think thats a bad think. As someone who has been following the Cyberpunk 2077 stuff since 2014, it feels really great to have the world explored in the form of anime

I have no words for how beautifully animated this is or the music that takes it to a whole new level or the story that rips your heart out to give you a new cybernetic one to rip out again. Perfect In my eyes. 10/10.

First of all, i love cyberpunk 2077 and the cyberpunk universe.

In this anime, we watch how david the protagonist trying to live in a dark dystopian future which is cyberpunk, how he handle everything even he still a kid.

I love all the character in this anime, even tho sometimes i feel like the story is rushed everything is on to the point, we didn't get deep character exploration but is ok, i don't mind it at all. Every character in this anime is loveable especially all the crew and the down fall for them is well written, as we now in cyberpunk there is no happy ending.

I don't need to talk about the visual and animation, they already superb as i expected from TRIGGER STUDIO, this probably their best work in 2022.

The soundtrack also very good and really lit up the mood of every scene, even for the emotional moment between character.

i will rate 9/10

When Adam Smasher appeared it’s an inevitable death flag for the MC and his friends. If you played the game he’s one of the final boss defeated by MC of the game. Oh well at least Lucy got a proper ending.

Even though I was expecting this type of ending it was still amazing, with such a brutal fight with Adam Smasher to go with it.
When I watched the trailer I thought I might enjoy it just a bit, but not as much as I have.
Crazy that they managed to fit all the story into 10 episodes.

it's good overall but you would finger out the ending if you played the game and the way characters die is kinda like Gurren Lagann (more like Akame ga kill). And there is Adam Smasher but no Johnny Silverhand or atleast a reference? come on. 7/10 - I have a feeling that I would like it more if I didn't hate that buggy game lol

Not as good as I hoped it'd be. There's not much cyberpunk stuff being created so I wanted something outstanding. At least it ended up being pretty alright I guess.
Despite copious amounts of gore, it didn't really feel unsettling at all. Most of the scenes just looked too comedic to be disturbing. The sex/porn stuff ended up being mostly bait. One ugly nsfw scene in episode 1 and then just a couple of nude full frontals in subsequent episodes. Seems like they forced themselves to include just the bare minimum. Also best girl Rebecca didn't get any nudes at all, a shame.
Didn't really feel a thing for David or Lucy in the end.
I give it a low 8/10.

The finale felt a bit out of step with the rest of the series on a tonal level, since it seemed to embrace a brand of sentimentality you usually see in shounen as opposed to the sort of gritty cyberpunk narrative it had started off as. Still, I was invested enough in the world and characters for it not to bother me too much.
Take care of yourself

Thankfully Adam Smasher(who have a MaxTac code just for him), killed David. Foreshadow won!

What's the lesson in the end? Don't be greedy, and know when to walk away.
The characters had each other, and nice apartments. Just walk away. Is not like you will die because Keanu Reeve is eating your brain so you need to crazy.

When it comes down to Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, we could have learned a little bit more about the characters from David's perspective before they died. Additionally, we could've learned about David Martinez at least a little bit before he died too in the form of things like flashbacks.

Because, that kind of thing would've made their deaths more emotional and meaningful.

'They die' endings usually get their score dropped like a rock by me, I really hate it.
But this.
This actually managed to make me think it to be profound, that lusting for power and thinking you can just push through when you cant take it anymore will do you in.
"No matter how robust you are, you are still human"

It still has the obvious failings of any trigger work taken at face value, but their magic sure was present on this one. Truly the Michael Bay of anime

I still think their deaths are somewhat pointless and without meaning since we didn't get to at least know a little bit about the characters before they were killed.

While I dont disagree, but this was a trigger production. We arent here for backstories and deep emotion, but because our monkey brains like explosions.
This was unusually profound for them, and I'm taking what I can get with a 10 ep action anime

We could've learned at least a little bit about the characters from David's point of view before they died. We could've also learned at least a little bit about David Martinez himself through flashbacks or something like that that before he died as well.

put me in the camp that's glad this is finally over

these last few episodes david was a shell of the character he was earlier in the series. when i quit caring about the MC and start hoping for mayhem, you know the show's lost me. i quit caring about david. i never really cared about lucy. and the whole "i'm doing this for my mom and maine" never made any sense at all. you're intentionally killing yourself for them? how stupid

had a cool thing going on the first few episodes. the aesthetics, the world building, dialogue, etc. and then it started trying too hard to be edgy or shocking. just another lame tragic romance show. that long montage at the end didn't do anything for me except annoy me. i usually can't stand montages. they're cheap

the first 6 episodes or so were an 8/10. the final 4ish were a 5/10 or 6/10. averages out to a 7/10 overall

If you've played the game or have had exposure to similar cyberpunk stories you sort of knew at best the ending would be bittersweet lol. Fantastic animation aside, I think for the most part they did a really good job with the writing and characters for this story. I liked that they treated humanity in this series the same as the source material, where people's individual lives being taken from them abruptly is a normal occurrence. Seeing the locations in the game be translated over to the animation was definitely also something I appreciated, the attention to detail in this show was amazing especially with cameos from people in the game like Rogue. Additionally, I feel like they did a good job showing who Adam Smasher really is as our exposure to him in the game was really limited. The ending, while predictable, served it purpose and is able to leave a lingering impression on the audience.
The biggest gripe I have is the pacing, it is for sure going too fast at moments which makes some of the developments feel forced especially the romance. I also would have preferred a style similar to Ghost in the Shell 1995 for this kind of story as I think it would have been more fitting, but now that I have actually seen all of the show it is just a minor nitpick.

9/10 start but after episode 6 it really fell apart. Their were a few good moments but episode 6 onwards feels like a whole new show. 6 onwards is way to fast and butchers nearly every character causing any death to feel pointless. It ended up being all flash and no substance. I miss the first episodes. Like episode 2 seeing her and him on the moon and developing them rather than HEY COOL MECHA FIGHT. It just ended in Trigger doing the all style no substance again.

I was really looking forward too this release, and I was definitely not disappointed, the great setting of what the cyberpunk world has to offer with the great studio of Trigger combo just made it blend in all the right ways!

Those last four episodes were a bit too fast paced for my liking, and I wish we got a montage showing us how David became his post-timeskip self. The sixth episode left David in a bad place and I wish they explored that a bit more, even though the visual storytelling of David's mental collapse was really well done.

Other than that it was a great show. It perfectly captured the soulless corporate dystopia that is Night City and how it's citizens are left meandering through a soulless world that cares not for the individual but the profit they could provide.

While I was hesitant about Trigger doing a cyberpunk series, they strike a near-perfect balance between delving into the character's dystopian philosophical dilemmas and the indiscriminate violence that comes from a world with so many people desperately clawing to stay on the edge.

The animation and overall visual style was great. The characters and their voice acting (at least the dub) were great. The story and atmosphere was great. It was just a great series overall, Trigger saves anime once again. 8/10
