I had been reading this manga from before an adaptation got announced, and had thought that it was simply an average rom-com. The only unique thing about it that stood out was the fact that they used cosplaying as a main point in the series. Despite this, I see many people declaring this show to be a superb rom-com. I’d like to appreciate it more, so please tell me what aspects were your favourite in the series.

for me, i think it's that the characters are realistic and don't seem yknow too awkward or too confident like in some shows, other than than I'm a fan of romcoms anyway so I've seen a good number of them and this one just hits better, maybe it's cus it's my first one with the girl falling in love openly first. and yes the cosplay is a big part of it for me ngl cus i appreciate the art of cloth making alot, oh and can't forget that romcom + ecchi = success

You know, you might be expecting someone here to be like “oh I like this because the story is that unique and interesting and the characters are original and intriguing,” but tbh, (well when it comes to me at least), I like this anime simply because I enjoy it. It doesn’t make me feel I wasted my time watching this and 20 minutes usually feel like 3 when watching it (that means you’re so into it that you lose track of time). So why do I like a show that’s about a antisocial kid who likes making weird dolls and gets horny by the thought of creating them? Why do I like a show about a girl who has no body shame and just wants to cosplay?

The answer is quite simple: idk but I love it.

Ahh it may be because I’ve exhausted my romcom gauge. I tend to like series that focus almost solely on the romance, so ultimately all the cosplay does is make me disillusioned. From my PoV, it just feels like a slice of life with the romance as a means of preventing readers from dropping it. However true that actually may be is another matter, though. It seems to simply be a mismatch of tastes.

I wasn’t trying to get them to justify liking it, I was trying to see why they like it in the hopes of liking it and appreciating it for the same reasons. Try to quell your emotions and think before speaking next time.

Well I also used to read its manga before adaptation and I loved it.
Basically the character is cute and art is great. The MC is quite decent and I actually liked him. Element of cosplay is handled well and its cute. Also I like these kind of rom coms where the relationship blooms later on along with heart throbbing moment, misunderstandings and all those cliche things, so I loved.
Oh yeah and did I mention the beautiful and gorgeous character designs (Marin and her cosplays).
If you enjoyed the time you wasted, then its not a waste of time.

In what way is your rom-com gauge exhausted?

Which solely romance series have been watching?

For someone who's just trying to get a handle on liking something you were pretty quick in there with accusing the show of just using romance as bait!!

I do agree, it is very very average. The plot is simple and it’s legit like every other basic rom/com just with a different theme. Marin especially is extremely one dimensional even though her personality can be cute.

also hmmm the things I like about this show is that the female characters aren't annoying and are very unique to me because they don't hit someone for no reason nor they show any hate or dislike towards them they understand the mistakes and doesn't abuse them also I love that it's animated by clover works the characters are really fun although I wish we could see some characters more screentime marin friend's since their just there at times etc gojo is a very normal yet relatival character he acts normal and for the most part doesn't overreact or act like his everything great show I could say more but this is enough

The main characters arent the most annoying people ever and are actually likeable and realistic. Lets compare it to some shows that have had simular sudden booms of popularity in the genre.
- Komi Cant Communicate has the issue of the main character being extremly bland. You can be normal without being the butt of every single joke.
In Dress up Darling the two main characters have their own interests and traits.
- Nagatoro has the issue of the main character being the weakest little baby I've ever seen, to the point where I didn't even finish it.
In Dress Up Darling, the characters support each others interests and speak up.
- The Quinntisential Quintupplets main character is a character I actively root against. He is boring and a nerd.
In Dress Up Darling, despite the main character constantly working on his hobby, he doesn't put it over the interest right in front of him. He actually acts like a human.

Its one of the few recent shows where both the main character and love interest actually get along and don't have unncessarcy problems.

Well for one it’s wholesome as shit, second best girl is here, third I like the personality of both Gojo and Marin for how they show gratitude towards each other. The romance is also good considering it doesn’t take her 5 seasons to pursue her love for him and make decisions that allow her to be with him more. The chemistry between the two is also fun to watch with how genuine they are toward each other. Some people don’t like the shy guy and energetic girl trope (me included) but this show does it right. Even with the fanservice, its not the focus of every episode. (Some have more than others) Lastly the animation is way too good for a show like this and I wasn’t expecting it at all.

I think for most people, it’s how well the main couple go together and just lift each other up as people, and also Marin is just a really likeable person with a lot of desirable traits in a romantic partner, and while I don’t disagree with this, at the same time, the show hasn’t been doing that much for me unlike most people who are watching, so I’m a little conflicted trying to decide how I feel about it.

the romance/friendship between gojou and kitagawa is great!! i love how there aren’t any lengthy arguments; when something is wrong they say it!! my biggest pet peeve in rom coms is poor communication,, so i’m enjoying this. the characters are likeable and the cosplay aspect is informative too! tho yeah the cliches are quite basic ^^’

Most of the issues people have is that they really just have a hard time believing like that exists. They do tho. Other complain about the simple premise, sure yeah, you could say that, but isn't it more about how they handle that simple premise anyways. A lot of media starts out that way, introduces us to familiar tropes and then twists it, that's what's interesting. If it didn't twist for you, sorry dude, literally you just gotta watch something else. I really, really enjoyed the show myself though, I loved the anime's comments on what it's like being an artist, and the dynamic of the characters really being passionate about what they love, also a refreshing, relatable kind of girl made for a really fun experience, the ecchi was a bonus for me, I'm one of those that absolutely ate up episode 11, but I can understand how people can be offput by it, once again, you just gotta look somewhere else. Hearing other people talk about it may not get you to wanna watch it, I just think someone wanted to spout an unpopular again, you're not alone in how you feel, but don't dampen people's enioyment if you couldn't see the value in it.

Sorry bout my essay, tldr, watch something else in you don't like it, there really is substance to this series, everyone's not mindless zombies or something lol.

how realistic the mc’s actually are i think. Plus i think the fact that romance isn’t the main point and put in their when it’s necessary makes it amazing aswell. If it were a full romance then ye it can be the main pint of it but a lot of romcoms use romance to much.

What I mean is that I have seen too many romance series that have allude to romance n what not, but only have romantic development at the end of the series. I don’t mind this entirely if the stuff in between is entertaining though.

Sure, I understand that sentiment, but what's the point of loitering around complaining that the anime is shit or shaming others for liking it? If it's not their thing why not just leave a mean comment on one of the episode discussions and then move on instead of pestering on every topic?

I'm not saying the way an anime handles ecchi should never be criticised, I'm the first one to do that, but this kind of gratuitous slander that happens with every "ecchi of the season" does not encourage discussion nor meaningful criticism, it's just a mixture of virtue signaling and self indulgence.

What's more ironic is that there's always Monogatari/Fate fans among the ones dissing these kind of anime.
