10/10

This is arguably the best episode of the series. Jie Mei throwing herself into the pit as a human sacrifice was some POWERFUL shit. Giryou melting into the spear shaft was also some POWERFUL shit.

And finally, I love that Ushio is directly involved in the creation of the spear.

Intense episode, especially the brother becoming a "demon".

But aw, they're skipping the train mini arc? I really liked that one. Oh well...

Also I thought this pillars under Japan thing was bullshit when I read the manga but I thought maybe it was just a mistranslation... Now I'm pretty sure it must in fact be bullshit. There's no way Japan actually has pillars holding it up, right? I thought countries were tectonic plates, not something you could sink.

That idea of pillars holding up Japan actually comes from Shintoism - you have to keep in mind that Ushio to Tora heavily draws from this as well as Buddhism at times. The only difference is that in Shintoism, it's a catfish between the pillars which is responsible for Japan's earthquakes. Check the Kashima Jingu shrine for reference.

Oooh, ok, I didn't know that. I wish this show came with translation notes for this sorta stuff lol, it's interesting and we miss most of it as western viewers.

They skipped Kyoura's character entirely so they sorta can't do the train part lol.

Backstory was truly epic full of feels. Fitting ost & perfect pacing.
Blade, shaft & ribbons were created from Jie Mei, brother, & youkais who sealed the berserk spear.
The huge misunderstanding/betrayal of ushio's mother finally explained, which made all youkai hate the Aotsuki's. Even Ushio's name was explained. Seems the barrier priestesses can live ~300 years!?
Mostly they didn't change history during the time travel, except that epic engraving scene. Wow Mappa.

+1 I loled when they made up some pillars thing. But reading this made me want to visit the shrine. Catfish earthquakes man. They even got a 1300 years old sword that sounds like the beast spear:

Great ep. Would have been amusing if Tora *also* disappeared when the two appeared in China. Then we find out that the brother was originally Tora before he became a yokai, and that Tora *is* the spear...!

So this all goes in a circle. The spear might have never existed if Ushio didn't come to the past. Awesome episode.

So Jie Mei is pretty much the mastermind behind everything that happend in the story
I'm surprised the former spear wielder that kicked Tora's butt doesn't get much attention in the history and that the spear wasn't even present in the war against Hakumen no Mono, wtf?
Oh noes we can't sacrifice glorious Nippon ! quick put up a barrier and screw the entire planet with it !
Hakumen no Mono reminds me of Godzilla.
Ushio's mom is still chilling in the ocean to this day and I wonder what role Inoue will have? being the descendant of Jiei Mei.
These last 2 episodes were fantastic, I hope they keep the momentum up and not go back to monster of the week hell.

There's still a missing part to that story of who took the spear from its resting place in China (obviously forcefully, due to the tattered red cloth), but definitely it was someone else before it found its way to the Aotsuki samurai who sealed Tora.

Again, you can't read between the lines and complain because it's not all spelled out for you in the same episode it's revealed.

These are stories. You're supposed to let them unfold slowly as you discover the details at the same time.

Anyway, I loved this episode. I guess the time travel was a true alteration, due to the carving of "Aotsuki" on the spear. Couldn't have happened if he wasn't there.

Even though really only Ushio was destined to wield the spear, I guess the Koumei Sect opted for a contingency plan (despite Jie Mei being their founder) just in case it didn't come to fruition, by choosing four would-be successors each generation. Smart to always have a backup.

And I believe the Aotsuki Samurai could only wield the spear to seal Tora because it would eventually lead to the spear ending up in Ushio's hands. That was his role and he was allowed to wield it solely for that purpose.

Life can be cruel and unfair. At worst it can traumatize and cripple you. The desire for wanting things to return to the way they were can cost everything and changes nothing. The best way is to keep moving forward, struggle on.
Anger can be powerful but can only get you so far. Let people into your life even if some of them leave you in time.

Fight. Like. Hell. For everything and everyone you love. Always.

I almost cried.
But how the fuck are they going to destroy Hakumen no Mono??
Because if he leaves that place Japan is gone.

Oh shit! Jie Mei killed herself. Damn. Ushio didn't even get to hit it.
Dat face.
Oh snap! Jie Mei reincarnated as Yuki then she chose a member of Yuki's family, who happens to be Hizaki Mikado, then Sumako was chosen next. So the question is...why does Mayuko look like Jie Mei and Mikado? Is she actually related to Ushio or just coincidence that will keep being mentioned? lol (Don't reply to this question)

Funny how Ushio and Jie Mei became related by reincarnation.
If you see that my post is exactly 1 month old (or more) from when it was posted... Don't waste your time, especially when you want to reply with something petty & insignificant. Assume that I've moved on (because I have).

god dam two brutal episodes in a row. Hakumen made his impact felt killing so much and breaking the mind of a man making him lose everything including his mind. So much so that hes been suffering for decades in the blade. Hakumen in these two episodes solidified himself as the big bad and making the audience want to see him dead. Even the reason why he was sealed instead of killed was a big FU moment. Also im guessing whenever ushios mom would have died jiemei would have went to mayuko and asked her to take up the job. Man ushios mom sure got lucky that she found the man she dreamed off in like a year and change. I wondered if she told him everything and i wondered if she truly did love him at first or was it more like a dam better hurry and make this kid.
