I saw a guy on tiktok saying new gen begins 2018 which is obviously cap and I said it started in 2015 with the first one punch man season. But which year did new gen really begin?

You can define "New gen" however you want.
I'd say it was 2016 because that's when My hero academia aired and was the first NEW big battle shounen after the old big 3.

these 'gens' are rather abstract anyway but almost everyone considers 2016 to be the start, mostly because of MHA being a big deal. 2016 wasn't a particularly brilliant year, but it did have some well known titles like MHA, Re:Zero, Erased and Mob Psycho.

eh, there’s no definite term of “new gen” so “new gen” anime can be from 2020 onwards but since it’s most people say its 2016, I’ll just stick with that.

new gen anime began in 2016 since the the first anime ever made was created in 1916 just keep adding 25 years to it (a generation is approximately 25 years) until you get up to the 2000s and you get your answer, 2016.

New gen is when animation started shifting from handrawn to more computer generated type animation which was a lot better id say it was about 2015-6 wish shows like opm and mha

It's kind off an abstract thing, everyone will tell you a different year. Most will say 2016 is when new gen anime started with BnH. I'd say it started a little bit earlier with Shingeki no Kyojin.

As far as I know there is no real definition of “new-gen”, but I usually consider an anime to be new-gen if it was made in the last 10 or so years. Again the term if thrown around pointlessly when it comes to anime, cuz there is simply is no such thing as a new-gen or old-gen anime. It would make a lot more sense if new-gen anime are considered those that started being produced after CGI was integrated in the industry, so everything after the year 2000.

I’d say 2015 on, so basically One Punch man was the start of new gen anime. Any older than that definitely not new gen, such as Seven Deadly Sins and Akame Ga Kill coming in 2014 definitely do not feel new gen. OPM does. My Hero and Mob Psycho in 2016, then Black Clover in 2017, the Demon Slayer, Fire Force, and JJK. All those feel like they belong together with OPM and not any older
