You know, even though this show has its low points I think it does fairly well at what it sets out to do. So I had a good time watching it, even if sometimes I wasn't so impressed by it.

Good show. 6-7/10

It had the potential to be so much more if it hadn't gone down that route. To get where it did go, all of the characters needed to ignore just about everything they said and did in the early parts of the story, including Yoshida, who didn't seem all that bothered by Sayu climbing into his bed and offering him sex, showing that much of what he'd said to her never really sank in.

I'm also sick of Sayu's brother being portrayed as a great guy when he could have prevented Sayu from sleeping with men for a place to stay if he'd just paid more attention to her or given her more money.

The idiot brother who could have housed his 16-year-old sister that needed adult guidance after her friend committed suicide instead gave her money and freedom. Then closes off his character arc by stating it's perfectly fine for adults to date minors. This anime deserves it's low disc sales.

Yoshida and Saya's farewell scene got me slightly choked up, maybe the first moment of drama in the series that actually did it. Yoshida delivers this heartbreaking speech about Saya moving on with her life just to be followed up by her showing up at his lampost 2 years later. ok man.

I respect Yoshida being an upstanding dude, but this would've been tremendously more entertaining if it'd just gone down the degenerate "late 20s salaryman houses and fucks a teenage runaway" route from the beginning. I don't even care about the age themes. y'all are still forgetting Japan has a more forgiving attitude toward age dynamics, if the prevalence of enjo kosai and the "JK business" didn't give that away.

I was going to give this a 4/10 but after a disappointing last few episodes the finale actually moved me. 5/10 with the potential to downrate.

This is just one creepy anime I don’t understand why the score is this high. It was fine in the beginning but the author and mc push aside two adult women for a teenager...

This anime got worse overtime imo.
If you start thinking about it many of the things in the story just don't make sense and feel very forced. Especially for an anime trying to be realistic (At least I think that was the goal)
6/10 since it has it's good moments.
I still don't like Mishima.

I was fine with this anime, but wtf was that ending . Time skip of two full years and none of the relationships changed, even thouhg mc and his boss kinda confessed to each other earlier? So what was even the point of other characters if the authors ship was sailing even without sails, just cause author decided that way? And you are telling me that a high school girl didn't change her mind or didn't fall in love with someone in those two years? That's all a huge bs if you ask me

No and for anyone else asking they animated the entire source material so that's it. It's over. He gets to deal with his damaged mental case for the rest of his life, do you really want to see 5 years later when she's fat and complaining the apartment is too small (and doesn't have a job because she has no skills or ambition) and he's cheating on her with the OL because they have nothing in common and he got bored with banging her after 6 months and is already sick of her soup? 9_9

This was a good ending and I think Yoshida and Sayo will make a good couple now she's a bit older. Don't understand why neither Gotou or Mishima never made a move on Yoshida when he returned.

It was 2 years after Sayo went home to her return, and Yoshida had told Gotou "i won't ask you out again, it's up to you to ask me out". Given that Gotou said she loved him, I'm surprised she didn't ask him out when he returned after settling Sayo back at her Hokaido home. Maybe Gotou could see what was happening and that she had missed her chance and Yoshida had now fallen for Sayo, even though he wouldn't admit it.

The mature and empathetic writing in this show was a breath of fresh air. I wouldn't have minded if Yoshida had returned home and got together with Gotou and been happy and Sayo had moved on, that would've been just as good an ending. But it did become clear on their trip to take Sayo home just how much Yoshida felt towards Sayo. After living together for so long they were a couple, although without the intimacy.

Underwhelming to say the least and downright corny AF
Only 2 years have passed and everyone is supposed to think Sayu's life is back to normal? Ummm... ok I'd call that contrived and absurd. The only convenient thing the author/director wrote in for Sayu was to overcome her legal age to be with Yoshida. They never suggested any development for her to even consider going to college and even having a career. Nope, just make it past 18 and graduate high school and be attached to Yoshida once more. At least with Koikimo Ichika and Ryou made a promise to each other that they would wait til the time is right after Ichika has become a responsible adult wherein she's capable of taking care of herself. Don't get me wrong...Koikimo has its own problems but it's unrelated to this topic.

Realistically women these days have two choices: Get married young and do the family thing, or pursue a career and end up alone. They believed the lie that they can do both/have it all and realize it too late.

So my boy in the first episode rejected from a girl and found Sayu. Now in the last episode will reject a girl to go home with Sayu..

I found the ending very good, i don't want a second season tho. Maybe 1-2 OVAs only.

Good final episode, I haven’t been reading the posts on mal for this throughout the season so I didn’t know they cut content till now, but it was still a very enjoyable show. I feel the ending wrapped most of it nicely, liked seeing all the characters again for one final time, and I like the callback to the beginning of the show at the very end. Definitely not one of my favorites from Spring 2021 but still a very good one. Yoshida was a chad till the end lol.

Omg dude you just reminded me that Yoshida DID say he won't ask her out again! In the timeskip credits scene on this episode you see Yoshida apologizing to Gotou during a dinner during some of the flashing scenes. All these scenes happened during the 2 years that passed, so I think that Gotou DID ask him out and he apologized saying something like "Sorry I'm in love with someone else!"

Thank you!!!!! I was wondering too why Gotou and him didn't become a thing in between the 2 years

Well I completely missed that scene the in the flashbacks so thanks for letting me know. Poor Gotou, she would've been my perfect woman, but sadly Yoshida's heart had moved on. She must be kicking herself for rejecting him in the first place before he even met Sayo.

Haha we both helped each other! Without you I would have forgot that he said he would never ask her out again, and so I initially totally read that ending scene wrong before I read your comment 😂

Also yes I like Gotou though I suppose her intuition IS right. She knew they weren't supposed to be together yet they both liked each other.. maybe she knew that his whole heart wasn't into her. I mean it really was all physical anyway from his view, those huge bonkers 😂 I guess he realized his feelings towards Sayu were what love really is :')

Janethan23, your argument is on point.

After graduation, Sayu has no other options than to return to Yoshida, back to doing chores, working at the convenience, yada, yada, yada. The only thing that might change - they can legally have sex, which is obviously what she wants. SMH - so immature.

Where has she grown? What has she done to accomplish living her own life, which is what Yoshida wanted for her? As someone mentioned in an earlier post, all the morally right teachings Yoshida tried to instill in her just went right out the damned window.

Honestly, I really enjoyed the series, up until the last 5 minutes. I expected Yoshida to receive a postcard at the end from Sayu saying she was headed to college or traveling the world.

@ sabashiihito - what era do you live in or what planet do you live on? Realistically, women these days have more choices and options than ever. We do not have to marry young, we can start families later than sooner, we can have a career, as well as a partner.

I'm cool with the ending to be honest, now I understand where people are coming from when they ask what happened to Sayu's DEVELOPMENT, and hey, to me it's fairly obvious the girl hasn't learned anything from this -- watch it, if she didn't just fake the whole "I'mreadytobettermyselfandstartanew" rhetoric just so she could get that much needed high from simply receiving Yoshida's approval, at this point I'm inclined to believe that, she would probably wear a leash on her neck, sit on the floor and starting panting if that meant she gets a headpat from this guy.

Seriously speaking though, Sayu still has a lot to learn, Yoshida's influence on her life has been fairly positive, but we're talking about a teenager here, this is not a turning point, or life changing experience, for one, she still doesn't get it through her little head that sex doesn't equal love, and at this point I'm also unsure about whether Yoshida is actually able to teach her that in a tactful, intelligent manner, I'm starting to have my doubts with this guy, but I mean, he has done enough, and Sayu? look she found her prince charming, good for her, let her live her moment, she thinks she is in love SOFREAKINGWHAT? you can't take that away from her, if anything, she deserves that much, even if she keeps thinking that her not getting d***ed means that she is not loved, I for one, think it's great a girl like Sayu has something to daydream about and feel giddy everyday.

Even if, Yoshida is not looking like he can handle her at her worst, sadly, so if these two were to be a couple, which is heavily hinted in here, it would just crash and burn, might take a few years but it would at the end.

I'm guessing that would not be a pretty sight to see so they decided to leave it at that and end on a happy note, so yeah I'm cool with this ending, not so much with what comes after, but meh, that's life.

PS. Now if they make an OVA and Gotou comes back groveling for the D, I'm all for it. <mandatory it's just a joke bruh>

The anime was actually good, but today's anime community isn't ready for it yet. 'Age gap' issue is a sensitive topic to talk and the anime actually did great to handle it. The mc till the end keep rejecting her tho despite getting teased so much, so I don't understand why ppl keep saying 'pedo show' or anything. Also saying it 'pedo' due to age gap isn't completely relevant. If there is a 60 years old man marrying a 40 years old girl, would you consider it pedo tho?? They are just not old enough to 'do it'. So Sayu told him to wait till her grew up which I see no problem in here. What I see instead the community can't seem to understand it and LITERALLY SAID that it would be a better show if the story gone through completely DEGENERATE path instead like Yoshida actually 'bang' her in eps 1. So which one is more disgusting? The show or the community itself??

The problem isn't simply the "age gap" issue but one of power, maturity, and character development, which is why the "age gap" is such a warning flag for people in the real world, especially when one of the two is a minor. The last episode shows Sayu repeating the same mistakes (using sex to get what she wanted from a man), Yoshida no longer pushing her to be better because he's starting thinking of her as a romantic partner, and rather than showing us a more mature and well-adjusted Sayu, we see her returning to where Yoshida first found her -- alone under a light post waiting to be rescued. The story ultimately reduced Sayu to a simple male wish-fulfillment fantasy -- a woman who enjoys cooking and cleaning for a man she adores and her whole life revolves around and who won't demand much from the man except sex.

(And, for the record, I know couples with an "age gap", including one who first met her husband as a minor and married him years later. There are ways it could have been done well -- showing us a a more mature Sayu who learned and grew interacting with Yoshida as an independent adult -- but this story didn't do that.)

You say that like it's a bad thing, it worked for millennia. Now that things are changed, birthrates are dropping like flies in 1st world countries because less and less people are getting married and having children. "Progress"?

I thought Sayu was starting to be smarter, but then she tries to seduce Yoshida again and in her own home when they could be found out (just her entering his room would be enough) and all they did would go to waste...
It is hard to believe that after two years both Gotou and Mishima are still are interested in Yoshida and they aren't going out with anyone else...

another dogeza this time from Sayu which made me want to lower rating to 6/10
The ending at least was ok, but I shouldn't expect anything different with her waiting in same spot was 100% foregone conclusion

It was strange that on the airport two times they show a girl older looking like Sayu, I was thinking she and Yoshida will hook up in the plane and that would be thx to meeting Sayu, and both Sayu and Yoshida go their ways and later on meet with each other with their families maybe.
that would be so much better...

i might’ve enjoyed this a little more if i watched it in a short period of time rather than catching up on episodes every few weeks but at the same time maybe not

idk what it was that threw it all off because at one point i did find the show to be engaging, but by the end i was just watching it to finish it
something about the pacing and the story itself just felt off and kind of forced

i even enjoyed koikomo as a whole more but i’m not surprised the shows are close in ratings—however i am shocked to see higehiro rated similarly to nagatoro when i really thought the latter was a standout this season

I'd argue that "It's too sick to call this love" is slightly worse than this show. But only by a little bit.

My God, this anime turned out to be ridiculous.

Everything about it.

7.4 mean score? That high?! Are people blind?

It is time to search for a JK people!!!, might find one in your trashbin if you search hard enough. And maybe, just maybe, they'll fall for you if you take care of her long enough ;P!!

That was quite a shite anime, from the backstory and how...

can woke people up.
This show was quite something else entirely though, none of the characters was enjoyable, and their interactions are very wet dreamy of the author's. Just look at how the big brother acts like he hasn't done anything wrong, he's like "I did dogeza so it's all good for me, I didn't do an inch wrongfully", he's a joke till the end for sure.

I don't give a shit about the difference between her age and his since, of course, age is just a number. But holy, I must say, I think I just watched someone else's wet dream, not a good experience I have to say.
At least the OP and ED is a banger though, I can say that much.

people who think the ending (especially taking into account the after credits scene) was open ended do not have very good inferrence skills...

Overall, I have this and that opinion about anime.. I think it was quite interesting at start and end.. But that's personally to me.. I can see Sayu's drama, and how seduction became close to her personality, even when she didn't necessary needed it.. As well as reason, why Sayu ran away is actually understandable.. Her mother is the broken person herself, probably, that's why not being able to take care of her own daughter.. I don't like her as a person, I just hold that it's understandable situation.. On the other hand, middle of the anime only touched things on the surface level, it seems.. Arc of the past sex friend felt like that.. So beginning and end I liked.. But middle for like 4 episodes or something - things felt that they aren't moving.. Overall, I leave with content feeling, I guess, because now is the end, and I liked the end..

Best ending, enough said. I really really hoped that the story would actually be brave enough to reach this.
If it just ended with a goodbye...guhh...

Also, negative reactions about this anime are all predictable of course. Usual buzzwords, lol.

That scene where Yoshida returns to an empty apartment, reminded me of 21 years ago, when I returned home from Asia, where I proposed to the lady who is now my wife. Returning to a familiar house, but somehow the place felt alien to me. Because my perspective on life had changed in the weeks I was away spending time with my betrothed.
I enjoyed this whole series. Sayu was a bit pushy for sex on several occassions, and it was amazing that Yoshida was able to exercise such degree of control, even though, by the end, we realize he has feelings for Sayu.
Great story, and about the right ending.

One last night together and Sayu already planned to get in bed with Yoshida, And she didn't even hesitate to ask Yoshida to have sex with her I mean it is the last night so why not go for it is what she's thinking at the time probably

Sayu's brother has full-on respect towards Yoshida more than ever as the man who took care of his little sister, Damn these goodbyes are so depressing now that they won't be seeing each other for quite a while

I called it he would tear one last time since he didn't even get a chance to taste Sayu's cooking again this felt like something's incomplete in my heart honestly, I was convinced he was seeing things at the end but ended up real instead of a reunion at least I'm happy they met again nostalgically.

This series was a sweet yet tense anime with every bit of information adds up and when Sayu reveals what she's been through and how she's pushing herself to do good once Yoshida took her in, The ending took a very anticipated path with ending how it should be without taking a risky turn and the reunion in the end, makes me want to watch one more episode for them to catch up with one another but I doubt there will be enjoyed this nonetheless.
