Damn this episode just hit right on the feels.

Started with Otae and Kondou's first scene. Why do I forget about Kondou's scar!! Their interaction is so heartwarming! So is Sogou x Kagura and Hijikata and Gin. I know this is not the last season but damn they really did a great job in saying goodbye.

I hope to see Shinsengumi in uniform in the next season.

Overall this season gave a roller coaster ride of emotion. All those heartwarming lines and statements, friendship, revelation, fight scenes, and of course the humor are all done great!!

So the Shinsengumi has to leave Edo. Their parting was great.
This arc was amazing, and that’s all I’m gonna say!
And that’s Gintama (Season 4)! Wow, what a ride!

I loved this arc, but to be honest, i did enjoy the start of it better then the second half, i lvoe how Sorachi writtes and how well he writtes the characters of Gintama. Most likely the best well written of the genre. But something on this arc was kinda off too me, maybe it was the animation or just too much going on or the lack of a better fight, despite enjoying it, it wasnt bad, it wasnt that good, it was good. I for example enjoyed other arcs more. But i did love it, and that reveal. Im keeping track after a "pause" i did on Gintama at 2014 to see everything. Lets see what is next. And that reveal! Still i hope we also have random happy comedy episodes and not go full serious next. Maybe that is something i missed a little, despite we had plenty of that and it was very good. Lets see what next brings. And finally i ship Gorrila and Otae.

Honestly I already held Gintama in an incredibly high regard before these 2 arcs and thus just shot this show to the moon for me. Everything I wanted and more. Lives up to the hype and surpasses it beyond comprehension. Also, something I noticed this ep was the parallels each odd Jobs member has with the big 3 of the shinsengumi. Hijikata and gintoki, sogo and kagura, and shinpachi and kondo. Maybe I only noticed it this late because I focused in on the sogoxkagura ship (which is still incredibly valid) but I still think it adds a lot of depth to the 2 groups. And right as they leave...

Another 10/10 season, right now I think it's slightly better than s2 because s2 had much better comedy but the serious arcs in this season were unmatched. Gintama is maybe not my favorite show yet but it's damn close. Gonna need these last 50 episodes to decide.

Goated show either way.

Great arc. Only thing I didn't like was the Kagura and Sogo interactions. Or rather just too much Sogo in general.

Not that I don't like Sogo, just yoo much emphasis in this arc compared to others characters. (And I hate Kagura/Sogo as a pairig)

Yikes. I did not care about any of this, at all. I hate when Gintama tries to be all serious and abandons the comedy.

I guess it works for people but I really can't take any of it seriously. This stuff is just way too cheesy. And apparantly the next arc is a serious one, too... Oh man.

Watch the Porori after this. That season is a full-comedy that skipped from the manga. Also there's an OVA of the love-potion arc. It's pretty good one. I'm not gonna blame you if you don't like the serious arc or anything, but I think this season has more comedy side than the serious one. Some comedy arcs like gender-bender, soul switch, kagura's illness, etc. is here.

It was a great season, very different from what Gintama used to be a few years ago, but with its own identity and merits. As to this arc, it was great, even if I consider the Shogun Assassination arc to be the peak of this season, alongside a few other awesome comedic episodes. Gintama is probably the best long running shounen series I have had the pleasure to watch, yet I still cant give this a 10/10... There is still that something missing, maybe a certain stability in production quality.

Anyway, 9/10 and once again, outstanding season! Great arcs and memorable episodes!

Edit: So, screw it, I went ahead and gave it a 10/10. I need to distinguish this season from the others, because when this season is at its best, its unbelievably good.

Sigh, It's over, the fourth season of Gintama is over? I still can't come back to reality.. It always takes me hours to finish the last few episodes of certain animes that I love to death (in this case Gintama). I just don't want to finish it but it must have hurt a lot more for the people who watched this back in the days. I still have a few seasons left to watch. The battle has just begun!

Anyway, I can say with respect and with confidence that this was one of the most incredible, emotionful and perfectly directed arcs I've seen in my whole life watching anime. Shogun Assassination Arc is hands down a masterpiece and the following up arc was as good or even better.

SA arc: A perfectly balanced arc. A lot of information was dumped on us. Gintoki's past was revealed for most of the part and his bonds with Shoyo and the rest. Between his past memories we were able to see an incredible fight. Shinsuke vs Gintoki was animated very well imo. Some might say that the artstyle was bit off sometimes and I agree with that. But the swordplay and the effects used in the fight were just pefect. The other fights such as Sougo vs Kamui, Kagura vs Kamui, Hattori vs a whole bunch of people, Hijkita and Kondo's duo fight against the enemies and a lot more. The emotional moments (backstory of Gin) made me cry for real.

Farewall, Shinsengumi Arc: Well, what can I say? How fucking AMAZING was this? You can't describe this arc with WORDS. But seriously, I can't believe how many tears I have shed. Shige's death led to a major event which united the three factions that always opposed each other. It started off with Zura paying off his debt trying to save Kondo-san leading to them saving Sasaki and boom, all three of them were together. The major fights such as The Three Factions against Naraku, Gin vs Oboro, Sougo vs Nobume, Gin,Nobume,Sougo vs Utsoro where hands down one of the best fights in the history of Gintama.

The meaning behind the last two arcs and the impact were just amazing. Can't believe that Gintama ended with such an emotional ending and not with something funny. Otae-chan saying farewall to Kondo, Gin having a meal with Hijkita, Sougo and Kagura having the last fight together.

Gintama season 4 is by no words, a masterpiece, a must watch.

7.Afro Arc
8.Feigned Illness Arc
9.Confessional Arc

Some are probably in the wrong order but they were all INCREDIBLY GOOD!

Overall: infinity/10.

Isaburo dying, Utsuro actually being Shoyo (no idea about that, I'm still in shock), Gintoki vs Takasugi, Shogun's death (HOLY SHIT THAT WAS PAINFUL), the Shinsengumi leaving :(

This season was it, the ultimate execution for 300 episodes of build-up, and it did not dissapoint

I don't think I've ever shed this much tears over a character, SA/FS was just ridiculously good

GINTAMA IS EPIC!

Unlike many people ,this season was already a 10/10 for me b4 SA and FS arcs even came I've always loved Gintama's comedy It makes my day Every week tired from work I used to watch the first season and had a huge attachment to Gintama but there's a problem now with me

I love SA arc and FS too (tho not as much as as SA ) but the thing is I feel like things are going too fast for me too comprehend Despite knowing that the writing is top notch, I'm afraid I might not like where Gintama is headed to It's partly my fault for thinking that characters won't die I'm writing this so that when I come back after finishing Gintama , I can recall how I used to feel

The end of FS arc & Gintama°, by far the best season and I highly doubt that it will be surpassed by future arcs.

An amazing Farwell to Sasaki & then at the end Farwell to Shinsengumi. Kondo with Otae & Shinpachi, Kagura fighting Sogo & Gintoki & Hijikata... everyone giving their farewell to each other.
The ost & that salute scene by Nobume & everyone to Sasaki at the start was Amazing.
So, Odd jobs will stay in Edo and will protect it with Katsura & Joi. Overall 10/10 episode & arc!

This season was amazing and we got the top 2 arcs and together they are one of the best in anime history. Gintama is my 2nd favorite or might be number favorite anime. This arc had the most hilarious & serious episodes!

Excited for next season, Rakuyou arc!

I thought the new police would wear gray clothing now, since they fused black and white policemen.

Season had some great serious scenes, but there was always something in each episode bugging me. A lot of the "plot twists" were hella predictable and plot armor was strong again. 6/10

Here has finally Arrived the conclusion of this arc and the season overall,

This aftermath really feels like it has been done the way it was supposed to , poor Nobume tho , she really needs the support after this .That final tribute and farewell to our beloved Shinsegumi really was beautiful to see, I can’t wait to see Hijikata , Kondo and Sougo one day in the future again

With this marks the end of probably best season of Gintama and absolute peak of the series, I think a lot of serious things remain to happen in the future

I don't even know where to start. The OST in these last few episodes was just amazing. The Shogun OST was actually a good one for that scene. The last message was sad and everyone standing next to Nobume, saluting Isaburo. Gintoki and Katsura's expressions were also just as good.

FINALLY, Otae didn't hit Kondo and took him seriously. I've always wanted this and the whole scene was delivered in an amazing way. The fight between Okita and Kagura and the talk between Gin and Hijikata (especially) were equally as good. Touching ending together with the speech and then the opening came in which was expected but still loved it. The way they showed all the encounters while the song was playing felt nostalgic.

Overall it was obviously an amazing season and easily the best one in Gintama since the fight in SA was the only thing I loved just as much as this. I'm so ready for the serious arcs, the "teaser" at the end was really good and got me hyped even more, lol. I'll miss Isaburo and I'll miss this season. You only watch something for the first time once.
Come on man, where is that Noragami season 3 masterpiece. We want it, Bones!

I didn't like this episode too much. Maybe because it reminded me of how the series is never going to be the same after the last two arcs. And I don't like this change. I want Gintama back to its absurd and inconsequential. It was a pain seeing the ending credits. Not just for the Shinsengumi and the great moments they've given to the show but also for the easy-going tone and jokes that will be missed.

On the other hand, the ship baits. Seriously this arc has gone too far and too out of character with this. We know that Okita and Kagura are rivals, the joke has been beaten to death, but there is no need for this pile of saccharine among the two. This is pushing it too far. Making them show affection for each other screws the joke around them completely. And Otae x Kondo... pfffff. Really. I know that we are in a serious mood but come on. The focus of Gintama has never been romance teasing, and it doesn't feel right if the non-comedic interactions come through this filter.

What I liked about this episode, and had an effect, is the scene where Nobume and the Shinsengumi-Mimawarigumi pay their homage to Isaburo. It was quite emotionally compelling and I liked the soundtrack quite a lot, it's the same that has been used various times in the arc iirc, among them in the very first scene.

This episode is a very generous 6/10 to me. Nice as a farewell to the arc but very out of the mood of Gintama for a season finale. Annoyingly solemn with zero self-awareness. I was expecting the characters to deliver a message to the audience, or something like that, as they always do :(

For the season as a whole, I guess 9/10 is fine. I loved the first 34 episodes. I liked the SA arc. I tried to like the FS arc but ended up enjoying it only sporadically. In the end I'm left with a sour taste, but this season has had too many great moments throughout.
@jal90 just say you want 2 dimensional characters who don't do anything except their running gags why such a long rant.
Honestly, it would make otae just a completely unlikable bitch if she's still going around hitting people after such a huge thing, and please, kagura and sougo aren't psychopaths, I don't see what's wrong with it when its literally a farewell, I don't agree at all with what you said but whatever.

@Blueberry173 First off, it's been 7 years since I posted that so forgive me if I am not vehement enough in my statements; but anyway do not be fooled, I say whatever I want to say and not whatever you understand between the lines. I know Kagura and Sougo are not psychopaths, that's also why I didn't call them psychopaths, but that doesn't mean I felt their display of mutual affection in this particular episode was right (and honestly don't remember it, that's why I say "I felt").

Also my opinion of Otae has never been negative, she's one of my favorite characters in the series, the way she is in comedy and the way she displays emotion and vulnerability in the serious moments. But I have never felt personally comfortable with the ship teasing with her stalker (Kondo, who I also like for other perfectly fine reasons, but they do not work as a romantic couple for me).

I don't know if my thoughts 7 years ago will stand the test of time, but my distaste for excessive solemnity and non-comedic romantic teasing is ingrained in my enjoyment of Gintama as a show. And I do like serious, dramatic and emotionally profound Gintama, never thought that the characters were or were supposed to be one-dimensional (they are not even in their comedic mood) and honestly I say nothing of the sort in the text you quote so what's the point.

@jal90 if the problem is just the shipping, I don't see why it can't be overlooked? I don't think it was excessive at all, it was a farewell to them and putting off the gags for that time doesnt have to be equalled to shipping, as their behaviour there is imi what almost anyone will be like in the situation, for sougo and kagura what you say is probably understandable but i don't think that's the case with the otae kondo scene as even shinpachi was actively present there, the show didn't seem to ship them at that point but instead was just trying to show the characters carrying out basic decency.

@Blueberry173 I mean and sorry for the late answer, it's been a long while. All I can say is that at the time it bothered me because I found it intrusive and potentially leaving out other comedic or emotional beats I connected with more. But it's also 2016 me, on a season I haven't rewatched since, and speaking from a perspective of having watched the series with certain ideas of what I found more or less defining of my ideal experience with Gintama in mind. I do still have some of these ideas, and I am not a fan of the concepts I mentioned; but certainly I don't see myself reacting as badly to romantic teasing as I did before if I rewatch the series.
