Hymenoplasty, also known as hymenorrhaphy, is the cosmetic repair, restoration, or construction of a woman's hymen. Restoration of the hymen is also referred to as revirginization. Such procedures are not generally regarded as part of mainstream gynecology, but are available from some plastic surgery centers, particularly in the United States, Middle East, South Korea and Western Europe, generally as outpatient surgery. The normal aim is to cause bleeding during post-nuptial intercourse, which in some cultures is considered proof of virginity. In the United States of America, hymen restoration is available in private clinics and becoming more common. In France, some of the cost is reimbursed by the state in cases of rape or trauma. The operation is popular in Middle Eastern countries, in particular, in Iran, where women are expected to keep virginity until the wedding night. Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Sadeq Rohani has issued a fatwa which permits hymenorrhaphy and considers a woman after the operation to be virgin. Heard about this while watching a talk show, apparently it's becoming very popular around the world. |

| That seems like a selfish thing that men came up with. Why should women put their bodies at risk for something like that? It is not very practical anyway. You cannot afford to have surgery each time you have penetrative sex with somebody, and having surgeries solely due to social pressure is plainly stupid and wrong. |

| I remember hearing about this first time in the movie Tehran taboo, the character who wanted that I mean I get her reasons for it, but I can't understand why virginity would be important in the first place. Do what ever you want to your body and all that, but I have a hunch there's pressure by someone else/others to get that surgery. |

| Um, virginity is a mental thing, not a physical one. Many women can be virgins and have a broken hymen, such as from horse riding. I don't see the point at all in physically pretending that you're a virgin when you're not. |

| I have never cared about virginity, sure, the idea of giving your first time to your beloved sounds nice, but even if my partner could've given me her first time, I could not care much. Different people care about different things I guess. Although, in a way it might be good for rape victims. I was always concerned about rape victims, virginity doesn't matter but it might be good for those who care. But if the women doesn't want to do it, then they shouldn't be forced to. After all it all boils down to choices. |

| Uhh... that seems like a lot of effort to become a “virgin” again. I mean, surgery or no, once you have sex once you’re no longer a virgin imo; it’s not a physical thing, it’s an experience thing. |

| "When you consider the word 'rape', you associate with it, a feeling of powerlessness, and a feeling like something is being taken away from you?" I have heard that one of the parts of the trauma of rape is that you feel that something was taken away from you. Especially if the rape victim was a virgin. If someone was a virgin, and then got raped, and then, in the process of recovery, the victim says that this surgery would be therapeutic for her in her recovery (because, say, maybe it helps her to feel like she can retrieve that part of her sexuality back that was taken from her), then in that case I'm all for the surgery. If this surgery can be helpful in the mental state of a rape victim then I support it. Outside of the rape victims I don't really have comment nor see why anyone would want that surgery. In those Middle Eastern countries that require you to be a virgin until the wedding, they should just do away with that rule, in my opinion. |

Also, Hymen is not a symbol of virginity. Some women don't have it. Sometimes it doesn't break due to penetration. And it can break from normal physical activity. | Hymen intactness is the dumbest definition of virginity out there. That aside well if someone wants to do that alright. I don't care. I could only really see this being good in countries where a woman's safety is at stake for having no hymen or a non intact hymen. If it's for satisfying someone's kink or fantasy that sure is an expensive indulgence. |

| That can't restore shit. Virginity strictly doesn't exist, its a cultural thing. Hymen is useful because it could be a somewhat reliable indicator of virginity but the tissue itself is worth nothing. If you've had sex before then you're clearly not into the abstinent lifestyle why would you larp as you are by doing some surgery |

| Only virgins think wanting to bang Virgin girls is a good thing. I know porn and other fantasy mediums have twisted all of our minds to believe certain things, but seriously....the LAST thing you want is to fuck a girl that has zero experience. ESPECIALLY....when YOU have zero experience too! This is a recipe for disaster not to mention NOT having a good time. It is preferable to fuck a girl that has experience, and even to listen to what she tells you when you do something wrong. |

| tbh for what is that, the girl will continue to have previous experience in sex, that will not make you more innocent. virginity would be of less value to people who like it. women who are desperate to lose their virginity, then this? |

| Rape victims should definitely have the surgery made available to them for obvious reasons. And if a girl has the money and wants the next guy she's with to think she's a virgin I really don't see the harm in it. It'd be funny if you broke a girl's hymen and she ended up giving you syphilis. |

It seems like an inexperienced girl is going to have lower expectations and will judge you less than an experienced girl would. It seems like an experienced girl would constantly be comparing you to other guys she's been with, and be disappointed when you fail to measure up. Guys shouldn't care about being compared to other guys, they should only care about sharing pleasure. As for what Alex mentions, I'd think it's rather related to how painful a woman's first time can be. Personally, mine was very very painful and the guy was experienced. An experienced woman can lead you and tell you what she enjoys and make you discover it and learn. |

In some parts of the world where religion is still important, whether a woman is virgin or not matters. It matters enough that the marriages can be cancelled on the spot. Christians and Muslims put a lot of focus on women and men being pure before marriage. So yes, the main reason they restore their hymen is to fake virginity for various interests. Unless someone has some weird fetish about hurting and bleeding during sex. |

| That's not even how virginity works..... First off the hymen can be broken through other means and it also doesn't always break. Second, you lose your virginity when you have sex for the first time, you cant just reverse it. The whole fetishization of virginity is kind of fucked up tbh. |
