I'm trying to figure out what even was the point of this continuation.

Like... if you want to tell a story featuring new characters in a new world... then just write a new story. There's no need for Kirito and Asuna to be here at all. There's no reason whatsoever to tie this story to the SAO franchise.

It's utterly discordant on both a technical and thematic level.

man, took me a long time to finish this as i lost interest when 'sketchy' things happened. all in all, probably better than the past SAOs, all i had to do was pretend it was a different show altogether. they do tend to jump a lot, and honestly both of them wouldve already had pages full of info in their local CIA/FBI/NSA watch list, but nope.

also, i realized alice = darkness (konosuba) after they grew up, and was hoping for some herps and derps, no luck,

as for interest in the continuation, maybe. i dont even know whats going on anymore since i dont remember what fluctlight is anymore, but i can already see the ending, that poison the assassin used, was definitely staged...

I knew Eugeo was gonna die, but still it hit me and I actually cried. This is definitely the best season of SAO (that’s not saying much though) and actually kept me entertained. I haven’t watched War of the Underworld yet, so hopefully it’s even better.

I don't understand why people say this is the "best SAO arc". It lacks that original feeling of dread of being trapped inside the game, and every single character there is just a NPC. I could not care less about Eugeo or Alice.

As always, everything was quite rushed, which is a shame, and I feel the animation was not on par to the previous seasons. Dialogue was not the best, there were so many deus ex machina happening once again, some useless sacrifices...

The only positive for me is the worldbuilding of that place. The story of the world is quite interesting and, being pretty well-developed, stuff made sense in general.

What made no sense were all these flashy spells coming out of the sword, stuff that were never explained and that the characters suddenly had access to.

What a disappointment.

They explain this early on during the duel with that random knight; what someone is capable of in the system is tied to their belief/willpower. If someone believes they can do something enough, they'll be able to do it.

This 'feature' gets extremely out of control in the War of the Underworld part of the series.

Thank you for this explanation, now I remember that this was a thing. I still find it sort of prone to "deus-ex-machinations", as is the usual "strength of our friendship". It is often used to overcome difficult situations without any real reason. Still, this explanation is better than nothing at all.

I think I'd rather have "fixed" and "quantifiable" power, instead of constant need of power creep in order to advance the plot, or to protect the characters.

I also thank you for informing me that these powers get toned up on the sequel. I will adjust my expectations when I start watching.

Well there you have it, the end of part one. The fight between the administrator and Kirito was really cool. I somehow predicted duel weilding would come back and when the Aincrad outfit came on, I knew shit was about to get real. Not really sure if the administrator lived or the clown somehow killed her? Anyway it looks like the focus shifts to the real world at least for a bit as the ocean turtle is being attacked by terrorists who plan to mess with the operations putting Kirito and Project Alicization in danger. Overall I gave part 1 of Alicicization a solid 7/10 which is a big step up from my previous SAO ratings. Certainly the best season so far and I'm excited to watch more.

Weird ending to this season, so did Administrator escape or not? The clown really should not have been able to jump onto here at this point. Though a lot of things in this episode made no sense, like Eugeo suddenly turning into a sword and Quinella forgetting all of her spells that she could use while floating in the air.

Obviously a very incomplete season given the cliffhanger, but even with a proper ending it's the weakest season of SAO so far. Season 1 was still much better and even season 2 was more enjoyable. 6/10

quinella died like that? what a huge disappointment, raped and killed by a random already dead clown. And how could kirito talk in real time with rath when his time is flowing faster than reality?

So I finally finished watching this, imma be honest, it was okay. I didn't feel a thing when Eugeo died, sucks yeah but I was just ehhh with it. I did like when Kirito got his regular Sword Art Online Black clothing. Got a little hyped by it but battle was too short and simple style for me. However the ending got my curiosity.

When Eugeo said "Stay cool" I went noooo. He was a good character. The BGM being ReoNa's 虹の彼方に during his last talk with Kirito too. When the song first played on Ep 19 I immediately thought it sounds nice.

Thinking about the whole season, I might have gotten lost sometimes in the events (like why is this happening again???) but I appreciate the new characters introduced.

Of course the author went with killing off Eugeo (who barely even had any interaction with Alice of the present) and adding Alice to "Kirito's harem", instead of a happy reunion and more progression with this relationship. No, Kirito just has to have all the bitches lol...

Aside from all the convenience and exposition dumps in this series, and there's a lot it, it was quite a fun little journey, a shame about that ending though. I want to give it an 8, but I think a 7/10 is a more honest score here.

Damn, Kirito really can’t catch a break uh?
rip Eugeo :( I’m really sad about his death bc he’s the first true best friend Kirito could enjoy, but sadly it didn’t last…
I’ve waited 23 full episodes to finally watch Kirito use his double sword skill, and I can gladly say it didn’t disappoint me at all.
Wonder how everything will turn out since Rath is under attack and all.
Also rip Cardinal

After all, it seems like we did get Quinella and Kirito fighting each other like in the opening, nice! Also she was delusional until the very end, thinking she could meet Kirito in his world when she was just a system, but that clown finally did something good for once.

The Eugeon departure at the end was really well done and sad. Now I get what Eugeo did with that crystal. So that means Alice also died, which sucks even more. But we still got Alice the knight AND ASUNA IS COMING?!

That cliffhanger ending was so good. The ship we saw earlier turned out to be a "warship", but why was "The Turtle" attacked? AND PLEASE DON'T TELL ME KIKUOKA DIED! So many questions. How did Asuna get in and what is going to happen with Kirito.

Overall, an alright season but I still prefer season 2.
Come on man, where is that Noragami season 3 masterpiece. We want it, Bones!

Aw, that's it? Is Quinella really dead? I hope she was able to get out of STL somehow. Anyway, I want to merge with her like that. Me and Quinella in one body forever. I think I'm in love!
15:59 That song is really good! Man, if the story was better, this would've been a tear-jerker moment.

Mother's Rosario & Alicization are the best things to happen to SAO. Between Yuuki & Eugeo, providing Asuna & Kirito characters that they form a fraternal bond with really ended up taking this series to the next level for me. Even though I'm rewatching this for the third time, that's the hardest I've teared up on Eugeo's "Stay cool."

Eugeo dead I didn't sad at all 😑 He still just a piece of data (even it intelligent collected for future robot / AI)..

RATH is on chaos 😱😱😱
I think Asuna will also "dive" from another room (which only one left they said / I think if I am not mistaken),
The RATH member will do emergency lock, even thou Kirito's power supply tools dive.. Which will cause his brain on malfunction (disconnect)..

I just don't like the cycle / pattern / concept.. Where Kirito has a girl near him, there will be Asuna come 😑 the script / scenario / story writer really didn't like them to separate for long..

I put this on hold when it aired and just binged it all in 2 days. I remember watching it and thinking how cool the concept of Fluctlight is. Then I see the fucking apprentices being pretty girls and I just stopped caring, specially after I heard what would happen to them later, like why is SAO always like this...creepy looking evil dudes acting creepy only for Kirito to save the day, fuck off, who enjoys this honestly. I just talked about it on a different post but yeah, I'm not a fan of how they make Kirito this cool character you want to self insert into, cause quite frankly he's kind of cringe sometimes. I do enjoy his hack mode on moments though, but yeah I just don't like how he talks about swords fighting in a videogame, feels like such a weird immersive weeb taking it too seriously, but enough about that, THE STORY!

At first I didn't want to continue this as well cause all I could remember was that "Kirito is trapped in a game, classic popular story we all know in s1. Then he has to go back to save Asuna, sure. THEN, he is hired by the FBI or something to go inside a Gun Game...ok, not even gonna bother with the other shitty arcs in season 2. AND NOW, he is trapped in a new game and somehow it all depends on him again?" I just kind of thought it was stupid lol. I totally missed some details like how he was put in a coma (by that one assassin ex-machina) and now the only way for him to recover is for him to play a game...

So here's the thing, I really like the Underworld project Rath was cooking, it's really cool, they want to make a button-up AI, but for that they can't just black mirror someone's memories into a computer, they have to raise them, which makes sense. Now they go forward 300 years in the world and they have their own cult and shit...and they just WATCH, they watch Quinella (I ain't fucking calling her Administrator, I swear them using english all the time is so cringe) brainwash them in so many creative ways, and all I can think of is...WHY AREN'T THEY USING WHAT SHE DID TO MAKE SOLDIERS??

Look I'm just ranting, cause I don't think I want to watch the second season, really cool world, animation, but I just don't like Kirito and I don't feel like watching him battle some Dark Territory enemies now while Rath is having trouble with the US or some shit. Like the concept was great, but ultimately it always goes back to the novel just trying to make Kirito cool by saying the only way to save the day is for him to play videogames...sigh. Like this is the 3rd time dude's beating NOT THE BOSS, but the fucking administrator of the game, like how many asspulls does this dude need every single time to do such a thing, even now that the more LOVE you have the stronger you are, Quinella has so many fucking memories of people to emulate that love and be stronger but Kirito still wins cause of course he does.

Shangri'la or Mabel's shield anime does have a show where they just play videogames and try to defeat the boss, and that's entertaining. But you aren't making SAO entertaining by having Kirito beat a game and their admins while it also being for the sake of the universe, that doesn't raise stakes for me to care, it just makes it obnoxious and stupid! Maybe I should just turn my brain off and watch it regardless, like the animation is that good, and it is better than season 1, but I swear Kirito is so unlikeable for me after s1, cause in season 1 he was just trying to beat the game to avoid dying, now he is always battling to save girls in new games he keeps getting himself into somehow, it's so ridiculous.

Again I loved the Fluctlight concept, I think it's really cool that they took the souls of 16 babies, made a template (also said people's talents and abilities aren't genetics but just made from your memories), I thought it was wild when they say Quinella is running out of memory, made me think "how much memory would the brain store if it was in a virtual world, and specially if you life forever". I liked them having this whole society to raise the AI they wanted...and I think I didn't say it before but I'm sure it is explained in season 2 why the staff didn't intervene when it was so easy to make the soldiers they wanted but, I don't really feel like watching the sequel. I don't want to be a SAO hater, I really liked season 1, but I can't really stand Kirito now and I don't get why this just kept going after s1, money obviously but the story was done, what a way to milk it. And like people said Eugeo was the best Kirito main companion, I love that I spoiled me his dead yesterday by looking at novel covers...he is just depressed in one of them lol

@Kismet69 if you Watch Closely. This particular season. ALICIZATION part 1 (excluding WoU) Kirito has absolutely No idea where he's is and absolutely has no idea that this world is at stake. Till the end of 24th episode, Kirito Doesn't no shit about what stakes are on this world. He just fighting to take Alice back as per Eugeo's request and Understand more about this world as everything lies in the central cathedral.
He just remembers stuff from his real life.

But yes!! Whatever flaw you wrote ✍️ there, indeed takes place in War of Underworld seasons. But well, the characters and stakes are also higher their so ig it sums it up, at least to be enjoyable entertainment thrown into your face to sit back and enjoy.
Some technical Terms and Raths ambition+characters, might not make sense to you if you haven't watched season 2 & ordinal Scale, especially MOTHER'S Rosario. Also the Anime cuts some stuff from the LNs......it isn't the best LN adaptation. I hope SAO Unital Ring gets an 86 treatment.

Yeah honestly when I was rewatching I was sure he had no memories, I forgot he had his memories. But it's not that I'm mad at Kirito for feeling like the main character, just how forced the situations always are to make him play videogames, at least in SAO 2 he was asked to do this, in this case he was basically forced into a coma by a guy...of this stupid clan cult that hopefully will never be brought back again since he said he was the last one.

Well, I do admit that it's cool how now we are just talking about the rights of AI people, and how inhuman it is how Quinella treated them (and I also agree with the guy, 1 soldier's life is heavier than 100.000 AI lives), so I can't say 'who cares if they die they are just NPCs, so Alice is very much real'. It was also cool how they addressed that if Eugeo was still alive it would have been a battle between which Alice to preserve, ultimately I would just say that Knight Alice, since she can just meet his sister and start over, it's not different from patients with amnesia. But yeah they are definitely more valuable to me than fucking Yui, god how I hate her...I just remembered a reason not to watch War of Underworld. I actually watched it all, even Ordinal Scale, I was so curious to see how the girl in the op from the movie was linked to this lol. I'm sure it did cut some stuff, I remember reading the volumes each season adapted. Volume 1 to 8 was Season 1 and Season 2 plus the movie maybe?. Volume 15 to 18 is War of Underworld, so I'm like...cool it's 4 volumes every 2 cours, makes sense....and then boom Volume 9 to 14, 6 fucking volumes in 24 episodes, yeah I kind of guessed some shit was cut xd.

Since you replied to me after 9 months of no replies instantly and you have an Eugeo picture I'm gonna assume you know best of SAO and ask, do you think War of Underworld is better than Alicization? I somehow picture a few totally uninteresting episodes about Kirito leading with his depression of losing Eugeo, and villains from Dark Territory that can't possibly be as big of a treat as Administrator. I do appreciate the reply specially since you are clearly a fan and I just talked bad about it lol

Damn, the ending has a lot of unexpected things. Like Quinella dying(?) in such a way. I really thought she'd successfully escape to the real world. I guess love can sometimes be lethal. It's especially true in SAO where a lot of antagonists fall in love with characters and end up being violent because of it.
And about Eugeo 😭 I have no words... Overall I had a great time SAO Alicization. The battles were epic and the studio delivered great soundtracks that greatly enhanced my experience.
