so it seems that i haven’t been able to get the recommended 8 hours of sleep lately.

however, i’ve felt more refreshed when sleeping 6 hours instead of the recommended 8.

how do you view sleep in terms of quantity vs quality?

sleep is the cousin of death. however long you sleep is a duration you’ll lose your life. at least, that’s my interpretation of the quote.

Quality sleep is much better. Getting a lot of mediocre sleep is just a waste of time

I think it all has to do with the stages of sleep cycle you go through in that certain amount of sleep you get. But on average I feel like a longer sleep always makes me feel better, even if it didn't have the best quality.

not sure, been getting 4 or 6 hours of sleep recently. occasionally 8 hours on the weekends... though i dont really care about the quality of sleep, as long as I can be awake for the rest of the day thats pretty much enough for me.

I mean, it really depends on the sleep cycles. 6 hours is as good as 7.5 and 9 hours, anything inbetween disrupts your pattern (90 minutes per cycle). I think people say 8 hours because it calculates falling asleep and waking up with it.

Depending on my schedule I always sleep 7.5 or 9 hours, 6 hours is not enough for me personally.

Help yourself to some CBD that’ll get you the necessary amount of rest. When I am sleep deprived I am more agitated and everything I need to do that day feels harder than it should be.

Everyone's a little bit different, so if 6 hours of sleep is what makes you feel the most refreshed, that's likely just what's best for your body. Personally, 8 hours or so is my sweet spot.

A perfect balance of the two is usually the recommended, however, most doctors regard quality as being more important than quantity. I mean, think about it: you can sleep for too long and be tired, but you can't sleep too well, now can you?

By the by, according to Arnie you are sleeping the correct way anyway.

Quality for sure, I prefer 6 hours of good sleep than 10 hours of bad sleep...Usually sleep 8 average hours though

I haven't really ever had a "bad" sleep, I have no problem going through the night and having a sleep that is both high in quality and quantity. If I had to choose one over the other though I would choose quality.

Quality over quantity. Applies to most things imo, including sleep.

Quantity is where it's at. I can't feel ready to start into a day if I didn't have my 12 hours of sleep.

Quality sleep is way better in my opinion, sometimes I feel completely refreshed after 6 hours as well.

If sleep was able to be cumulative, then quantity. But otherwise, just go with quality.

I feel fine after around 4 hours of sleep. It’s definitely the quality of the sleep for me.

What you truly need is roughly 1-2h of deep sleep, the rest is filler time that is needed to achieve it. The recommended time is 7-9 hrs in order to maximize that time, as you get older you only need 5-6 hrs

So the short answer is quality, if somehow your brain needs less time to achieve deep sleep then less filler time is needed for you to feel refreshed. If only we can instantly achieve deep sleep then imagine how much more free time we'd have...

Anyone give up on the sleep meme because it's impossible after the age of 12?

Have tried all methods but I just never reach nirvana.

Quantity is Quality for me.

My ideal sleeping time is 6-8 hours, less than that I will get sleepy in midday or afternoon.

and theres no such thing as too much sleeping for me as I simply cannot sleep more if I force myself to sleep more than 8 hours.

I would love to feel fully rested even if it's not enough resting time, rather than feeling exhausted because the sleep wasn't consistent no matter how long I slept for.

quality anyday. I need a great 4-hour sleep so I have enough time to watch plenty of anime without feeling tired 2 hours after.

Welcome to the club. I haven't had a good night of sleep since the moment I stepped into high school. Sleep for forty or no hours at all it is always lacking. It is simply put impossible for myself to get somewhat refreshed. Sleep inducing pills are obviously a thing but I wish for none of the possible addictions. Therefore, they are off the table. Fortunately you get used to this after a while so in no way is it impossible to live with having to wake five to six times a night.
