Message for metalheads who won’t give Kpop a chance

I don’t mean to say that you are wrong for voicing your opinions, I just kind of thought of this link between genres and was hoping it would change your mind about Kpop.

Metallica=BTS
Avenged Sevenfold=Stray Kids
Megadeth=EXO

These are my three favorite Kpop groups and I couldn’t help but notice parallels between three other incredible bands. The reason I say this is because:

  • Both Metallica and BTS popularized their respective genres
  • Both Metallica and BTS are well known
  • The link between Metallica and BTS is surprisingly similar. Both BTS and Metallica struggled initially. They both became very successful later on.
  • The members of Metallica/A7X and BTS/Stray Kids have good relationships with each other.
  • Minho(Lee Know) of Stray Kids used to be a backup dancer for BTS. A7X guitarists Synyster Gates and Zacky Vengeance said in an interview Metallica took all the “good riffs”, also citing them as an inspiration for their musical style.
  • Metallica and A7X are often confused for having similar styles. Stray Kids have a current style reminiscent of old BTS, creating similar-sounding music at times.
  • Exo and Megadeth have both had several lineup changes.
  • BTS/Metallica, Stray Kids/A7X(both my fav groups in their genres), and EXO/Megadeth have incredible discographies.

These are some of the things I noticed. I hope metalheads can link their favorite bands out of these “big three” and discover new music that they love. Kpop fans should do the same. Music is a universal language after all and should know no bounds.

I really don't like K-pop music at all and i never will either. If you're expecting every single metal fan on earth to get into the genre you're very much wrong and to me your just projecting your own insecurties to make people listen to the same music as you do and guilt others as ignorant and bigoted. Rules for thee not for me do as i say not as i do and this is really not the site to post this up here so you just wasted time that you'll never get back at all from posting this.

Sorry, I’ll change my message to make it less imposing. Also I wrote this in like 5 mins... so 5 mins wasted? lol

I hope you're trolling because this is so pointless to make a direct comparison. I rarely even see metalheads talking about pop of any kind since it's off their radar. They usually talk shit about certain rock or metal bands.

Lmao. Brings up mainstream, predictable metal bands everyone has heard of at least once. Good one. Good joke.

I bet next you're going to say all metal sounds the same. And that all metal bands that fall under metal are the same metal. And not even bring up sub-genres. It's as people have responded above. Music is subjective and your post is irrelevant. People become interested in metal when something like say pop proves uninteresting. That's the whole point of that.

As a MetalHead, I don't hate K-Pop. I do enjoy some Orange Caramel and Ladies' Code.

I just don't like how manufactured K-Pop seems, even in comparison to western pop. I'm also bothered by the poor treatment of the K-Idols as well as the entitlement of some of their fans. I'm not saying that Metal has its problems; I just can't get into K-Pop very much.

I would like to listen to some Korean Metal bands, if there are any.

Prejudice prejudice prejudice...

IMO I think this is a pretty pointless thread, if they're not interested to try it out then don't continue pursuing them just to make them do so.

No, I'm not a metalhead but I do listen to heavy metal. K-Pop is very neutral for me but honestly I prefer my J-Pop over K-Pop due to personal preferences. :pensive:

You should definitely listen to Korean metal, that’s awesome. Poor management of idols and disregard for their well being can be off putting when it comes to Kpop, I agree.

I see we have a common theme going on here...
You guys did bring up good points though, I don’t have any right to force you to listen to these artists or a particular genre at any time. I originally wanted to share similarities I found between artists, and I thought that since they were similar people from both genres could learn to appreciate them all, or at least not shit on them without listening to them.

Still not convinced. Kpop annoys me every time it's on the radio or TV or whatever.
I also don't think that finding parallels between artists is enough to convince someone.
I once made a thread on /k/ where I noted parallels between heckler & koch (a firearms manufacturer) and IBM (a computer manufacturer).
I don't think I convinced any computer guy to go and buy a VP9 or any gun guy to get an AT and experience the glory of lotus 1 2 3.

I listen to metal because I don't wanna hear cute singing in korenglish and whenever I randomly look at a bts video my eyes bleed. I prefer metal to energetic love songs.

A bit of hard rock, a bit of metal. Their 7th album The Stage was more progressive metal with electronic elements. You should listen to Exist, off that same album, it’s their best song.

I don't listen to Kpop, but it's not like I'm against it or anything. It's just a different genre of music for me, and I do know a couple of songs. Like 70% of my friend group actively listen to Kpop, so obviously I picked up a few here and there and liked it.

I don't listen but I don't condemn the people who do either

I don't keep up with k-pop much but it's usually a hit or miss for me, I prefer listening to k-drama OSTs they are usually made with better melodies and are more fitting for dramas.
now here's some that don't sound like your generic k-pop songs:

This comparison is silly. You gathered a few coincidences between these artists of a upcoming genre (at their time), and somehow you concluded that, despite having completely different sounds, backgrounds and objectives, they are the same?

When a genre is being created/brought to popularity, of course pioneers and the most influential artists of said genre are going to interact and share similarities. They all have the common goal of popularizing their music. Otherwise, if every band and artist tried to create something different on their own, without getting inspiration from others that seem to be doing something similar, they wouldn't be creating new genres and subgenres, they would just be labeled experimental or indie and be left aside.

This could be said about all types of music.

I don't know about k-metal but I've posted a few "rock" songs up there yesterday in the spoiler tag, they're all from different K-drama OSTs. The Vane usually makes some rock songs for K-dramas. I'll just post a few of their songs:

I'm not a metalhead, but I won't give KPop a chance because it's Korean. Now, please understand how ubiquitous all of the shit you're talking about is in the music industry, how it in now way reflects a connection between the music these people like and how what you like, and most importantly, stop begging people to validate your hobby.

Like, you're not even making an appeal to the music itself or speaking through that in any way that's relevant. You're just prattling about stuff like how "WOW BOTH GROUPS STRUGGLED AT FIRST BUT EVENTUALLY BECAME BIG." So?

Metal and Rock are about the only genres I listen to, with the others being some Jazz and then just Johnny Cash. The issue I have with most other genres, especially that of pop, regardless of origin, is that they just all sound the same to me. Especially with American Pop, I can never tell the difference between artists.

I also tend to prefer the lyrical composition of metal more, as it tends to be better written as well as have more room for interpretation for the listeners, so they can get their meaning out of it to help them.

I don't care for either genre. I've heard a lot of kpop but I only like one or two groups at most. It sounds pretty bad for the most part. The boys and girls are cute but that's about it.

I have not found one metal song I liked. I hate the music and I hate the fashion. I'd rather just listen to rock.

I'm not a metalhead, or a kpop fan, metal can be fine if it's done right though, kpop I don't like for the same reasons I dislike most mainstream styles of pop music.

That being said your argument makes no sense because it's just random generic facts about the bands and has absolutely nothing to do with the music it's self. Though I think that's an aspect of K-pop fandom in general, it all seems to be more about the bands and the drama around them than it does the music where with fans of most other music it's about the music, so your approach is all wrong.

Both genres are very different, honestly.

I listen to both K-pop and its subgenres, as well as Metal and its subgenres.
If I had a message to say, it'd be: "Listen to whatever you think sounds good."

If you're a metalhead and don't listen to K-pop because you don't like how it sounds, or the general dynamics of a group or soloist, then that's completely fine. (Same goes for the opposite.)

However, if you simply don't listen because it's mainstream and/or the fandoms are not the most intelligent, then that's just stupid, because since when does mainstream-ity (that's not even a word, but you get what I mean) or fandom behavior change the way music sounds? It doesn't. Well at least it shouldn't.

Basically, just listen to what you like. If you see a thing that appears in your YT recommendations all the time, just click on it for once and see if you like it.
