THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE. ---------------------------------------- Heh, Food Wars is back and it's a fan service fest. Right off the bat, we got swimsuits, beach, and all that delicious stuff. The OP song is kinda silly imo but pretty lighthearted with food gimmicks as usual. I'm actually kinda glad they're starting off season 5's premiere this way. It's fun entertainment than the tense competitiveness from the big battles. Erina and Souma also had some amusing chemistry. |

Another contest to show who's the best and for the first time in 5 season we see souma talks about his mother and they showed her ... I 99% sure that his mother has something to do with the suzuki (the new character) |

Lol a beach episode right off the bat and it was a really fun one too. The op was pretty cool. Also looks like the anime will skip some unnecessary stuff from manga. I'll be glad if they don't show those shitty scenes where Saiba was hitting on Erina ffs. |

I'd have to go back and double check since I can't remember off the top of my head but I'm pretty sure they skipped the stuff that lead up to this beach contest. In particular, how Suzuki was introduced and whatnot. Well anyway, we were thrown right back into the cooking action pretty quickly. Of course Souma and the other Elite 10 members would pass, even with their handicap. They're Elite 10 members for a reason. Now we move onto the Blue arc.......oh god time to relive this nightmare again. Also.....the oppai in this episode was quite delicious ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) Edit: So after going back to check what was changed/skipped: Suzuki was supposed to be introduced in the last few chapters of the Hot Spring Investigation arc, which was pretty much "adapted" in like 30 seconds in the previous season's finale. Since that arc was basically skipped it makes sense to change how he appears in the anime. Like, Erina was supposed to explain the rules of this beach exam but the anime had Suzuki do it, I guess as the way to introduce him as well. Also, Dojima provided some important info to Erina about his character in those skipped chapters too, so she should technically by this point already know certain things about him and his shadiness, but since that was skipped Erina just seems to nonchalantly introduce him like it was no big deal. And Souma should have already encountered him as well, whereas the anime is portraying it so that this is their first time ever meeting. Makes me think they probably won't go back and show the skipped stuff through flashbacks. Oh well, but I guess that makes sense since it would contradict what we just watched. There's also some other stuff that was supposed to happen but I'm assuming it'll be added later....unless they plan to completely change the arc compared to how it was in the manga, which I don't mind at all if it reduces the amount of cringe and ridiculousness. |

Food Wars is back for the last time and aside from the mini recap we were thrown straight into the mid of things. Not how I would've started the season, but at this point no one seems to give a fuck anymore xD Anime staff also skiped a ton of stuff and changed it so that Saiba introduced himself to Souma here. Usually I'm not fond of drastic changes like that but nothing of value was lost I guess. That said, the beach exam arc was actually the only one of the later arcs that truly captured and delivered the essence of what made this series once so beloved. So in that sense we were off to a really fun start, even tho it still left a bit to be desired. I dunno if it was due to how it was paced or if details were skipped, something felt off. Anyway, still enjoyed it and I hope I will be able to say the same when we enter the Blue. |

They changed the 1st meet between "suzuki" and soma from manga. I personally like the blue arc, idk why others didnt liked it but i found it interesting, but idk if 12-13 eps will be enough, shokugeki has normally a fast pace but in this case they need about 3 chaps per ep |

Only one episode and I can already smell the NTR. Cannot wait for the juicy content to start :) I can't believe I had to see the ahegao of that guy who wanted to take Souma's position. At least we got a lovely view of Nikumi. When Dojima appeared and said "The BLUE" (pronounced as "Za Burue") I couldn't stop laughing. |

Great episode and nice restart to what I assume will be the last season of this series. Curious to see if this arc will live up to the notoriety that's been built up by the manga readers. I mean, it can't really be that bad can it? Anyway, we'll find out. This beach episode was great but let's see how BLUE goes. I've been playing Person 5 Royal and having a character here that looks fairly similar to Joker and voiced by Jun Fukuyama had me confused in specific close up shots of him. Hebmanaged to correct it in le dessert, he turned the villain into a good person like most of shonen but the half brother side was'nt good, it was funny but a bad idea, and as you said, the story of soma's mother was interesting. I think he didnt made erina say its delicious to keep the tsundere character but soma said he will make her say it but he did'nt. Its okay. Even with these its still a good arc, not at level of before but i still can't say it's trash. Btw do you think he will change smth in the anime??? I really liked this episode. It had a lot of what made me love the first season so much. The fun interactions, the teamwork, the struggle to achieve the goal (although at this point we know they can do anything) and most importantly, the competition between students without being a damn shokugeki! Seriously, I know it's in the name of the show but they're too overused. They were supposed to be something special but now everything is a fucking shokugeki, it's like the author doesn't know how to solve something or move forward unless it's with shokugekis. This episode was a good example of the path the story should have followed, until they talked about that BLUE thing... and a new villain appeared who, from what I've seen in the OP and ED and heard from the manga readers, will bring ridiculous things (those kind of cultists are already a bad sign). This series holds a special place in my heart because of how much I liked the beginning, being the first season my favorite anime of 2015. That's why I'm worried and sad that there are only 12 episodes left when they've barely started the second year and there should still be a lot they can do with the story, but at the same time the main characters have become so powerful in such a short time that the school setting has become completely pointless for what was its initial purpose, to learn. Anyway, the fanservice was pretty nice and there sure were a lot of jiggling courtesy of Nikumi. I'm sad that it took me so long to appreciate her, when I love her now. That scene with the massage chair was great, Nikumi and Ryouko... damn. Poor Yoshino tho xD. I also loved the scene on the balcony between Soma and Erina. And it was good to finally hear something about Soma's mother, it's weird how we only now know something about her and even Erina's has her face covered in the ED. |

Not a manga reader, so I tried to be as open minded as possible. Last season showed clearly Shokugeki is having problems on the direction aspect. The show already had a downgrade on character design and animation since S2, but it clearly had some pacing issue on S4. Luckly, that arc only focus in Shokugeki battles, so the fast pace, in a way, wasn't really bad (although it didn't help any kind of character or story development scenes). Also, the soundtrack was spot on (in my opinion one of the best from last year), so I still maintained my score. But in this first episode, we already see the story progression becoming worse because of the fast pace. None of the scenes let the viewer to sink in the new informations given to us. Only scene that actually worked somewhat was Souma and Erina conversation (suprisingly with a slower pace than the rest of the episode, but still pretty fast), although if manga readers are correct, this will be one of the last times I'm gonna see a scene like that. But the episode later progressed until the end with "Shokugeki style", and thanks to the amazing soundtrack (I know the soundtrack for this season won't be new, but damn, I never get tired of hearing Shokugeki OST), the rest of the episode was good to watch. Overall a weaker start, but nothing major. Let's see if it at least the show can keep a slightly entertaining quality, or it will become a complete disaster as most manga readers claim it to be |

They made a lot of changes in this one. I question that. But if they can make something that can be reasonable than let me see that. Those who are manga readers would know what to expect. Even I am shocked to see things change. But guess we about to find out soon enough to see where this will go. |

I must say, there were plenty of changes on this first episode of season 5 compared to the manga version. I guess some users here might actually like it or not, but even with the changes, I think it worked decently well. We got to see our main crew on the beach for the final exam before Summer break. There was plenty of fanservice to go around with everyone in their swimwear (Alice, Megumi and Erina are my top 3 for sexiest bikini outfits. =3) and the foodgasms are as impressive as usual. Because of the changes, this is where we get introduced to the new character, Suzuki, who looks like a more edgy version of Persona 5 Royal's Joker. We'll be seeing more of him throughout this arc, whether you like it or not! XD Overall, this was a pretty good start to season 5. Visual quality looks to be the same as the previous season, thankfully, and the OP/ED songs were very enjoyable, too. So far, so good. |

Hopefully the anime will be better than the end of the manga |

It was a nice episode. I've heard that in the manga it's a trainwreck so now I'm so curious. |

How low this series has fallen where they can't even make good foodgasm scenes, which used to be a staple in this franchise. The animation was overall incredibly weak for being the first episode and it seems like everything else is going to become worse as well. I'm too far in to quit now so I will pray that it will at least end decent. |

Finally we can see the worst season of SnS both in history and animation. I love being able to see new episodes of this colored book again. And let's not forget that the fanservice this time isn't even made by food, it's just normal exploit of big boob characters. Isn't bad at all, but since the fanservice from this anime is somehow unique, I was expecting more of that. Also saw that they changed like 2 arcs from the start, but it wasn't changed they put it in the last season in 2 mins. Nice. |

Nice start for the 1st episode... It seems like the story restarts a few months after the finals from previous season. I enjoyed this beach episode, full of emotions and quite funny ^.^ Both the OP & ED give me chills just to hear it (and I got the feelings I had from the previous seasons too, that's AWESOME!) And it looks like we're finally going to watch The Blue Arc... YES, I've already fired just from watching this episode ^.^ |

In this new OP... there is a moment where it shows Erina and Souma and there was this reflection where I saw Erina with a wedding dress. Am I seeing things, or is there something going on between them? This new teacher seems like trash! Don't like him one bit. I have a bad feeling about this character ._.; Nice start! And that Yakisoba made water in my mouth *,* Seems delicious! |
