Smh he just gets teleported to every “floor”? I thought we would see lots of climbing action... Well atleast Bam has an epic op sword and a higher up girl crushing over him

I do wonder what those flashbacks were. Who was that girl with Rachel? Really looked like a female version of Bam

Gotta admit. Love the Webtoon. I think that the openning is just alright and i thought that the pacing moved pretty quickly. I do love the sound design though. The sound was really well and at times i thought the animation was really pretty.

The fatal combo, ugly and dull.

But hey, I'm sure it'll get good 50 billion episodes later for reasons that nobody can quite quantify because they're all spoilers.

Lol, the person who looks like a female version of Bam is Bam; he just used to have long hair. Later on in the series,

This first episode is well done, there were minor cuts but there’s nothing to be worried about, from my point of view. This is my impression now, I hope I don’t will be forced to change my view.

What I saw: something that could be decent Korean manhwa (ouch).
But did not step up on a level of a decent anime.
If drawings were fixed later why do we get v1? If story were better later why do we get v1?

There are so many cases original works have unpolished stories or visuals. Could be lack of experience or resource constraints.
But it makes sense to improve when you translate to the new media. Make it better, not faithful to the early 'roughness'.

E.g. Did you see original Fate VNs visuals? How dare animation studios change that and make something of god tier? How dare they?

Hyped to see Tower of God animated. Really enjoy the art style personally and the amazing OST. Apart from the OP really enjoyed all of the first episode. Good to see some of the regulars in animated form.

Its worth reading the manhwa first as it is absolutely amazing and is really lengthy.

I mean, it definitively feels like it is going fast, so I guess they will cover the entire season in 13 episodes. Let's hope they don't cut some dialogues, because this series have some amazing ones.

People that complain about the artstyle might be the same ones that enjoy their moe and isekai where everything looks the same.

I think he was trolling there, since it's April Fool's and all.
Here are my two cents: OP is kinda bleh, for reasons others have pointed out. Am a bit worried that they'll cut too much dialogue out, but from what I've heard from Chibi Reviews' vid on it, ep 2 will be a step up. I just hope that eps 2 and 3 will be intruiging enough for people to keep watching. Also, it's already trending worldwide on Twitter after one episode, so it's basically the new Demon Slayer lmao.

Hot damn, I didn't know this got released already in the time of worldwide lockdowns and quarantines due to global CoVid-19 pandemic. Finally something to look forward to in these dark and crazy times! I haven't catch up to the webtoon yet since last year but oh well, here we are!

Headon sounds like Hōchū Ōtsuka or do my ears fail me now? >_<

I've forgotten since it's been years since I've read the beginning but I recognized the Green April at first glance. Khun is still so cool AF as I remembered him to be!

I'm watching you Rachel... XP

The attempts at characterization were so bad people are actually saying there was none lmao I'm dying
The reviews are right 10/10. masterpiece

There was some characterization, but you can only get so much out of nonverbal communication and we just didn't have people really talking with each other, so I don't get what people expect.
I don't take people serious that rate something early on, but I also dislike people judging way too fast.
This first episode was clearly intended to throw the viewer and the main character into the whole tower situation without much explanation and that is what that episode did.
We can discuss if they did a good or bad job with it, but criticizing the episode for something that it wasn't even supposed to do is stupid or do you guys run into a store to argue that the banana you bought doesn't shine bright enough?

We went from "There was no characterization" to "There was some characterization". Funny how that works. If you're saying someone can't get much from the characters through their actions and behaviour with all the conversations, talking and heck even an over minute long flashback as context for motivation that went down which are all sources of and attempts at characterization then that's pretty much either just implying that the characters came off flat or the viewer was oblivious to their personality traits. You seem pressed to insist on the former being the case because the episode very clearly tried to characterize (?) the characters.

"This first episode was clearly intended to throw the viewer and the main character into the whole tower situation without much explanation and that is what that episode did." Who talked about worldbuilding? But as a counter-argument there was quite a lot of explanation of what ws going on so the episode was also apparently doing other things it wasn't meant to do?

That entire last paragraph is an unironic testament to how well this episode handled the characters. Though now you're making me feel like saying "It wasn't THAT bad"

couldn't get into this one. I loved the first few minutes, the animation, the art style and directing, but when the princess of Jahad showed up, I started checking out with how many questions I started having, and how much exposition that raised more questions in just a few minutes. Too much for my brain. I would prefer if they just had him go through the trial, and explain things bit by bit as they go along, because now i'm wondering:
"Why are you helping him?"
"Why are you explaining things to him?"
"What's Jahad"
"What's an irregular?" (answered-ish)
"How do you know he's an irregular?"
"Why did you kick him in the face?"
"Is having a cute face really worth risking all of this over?"
"Where was she that she'd be able to kick him in the face just like that?"

these aren't a lot of questions really, and they are answered, but it was a lot in just a few minutes, and how the information was given out didn't feel natural or smooth. I don't need to be told about the translator and stuff right off the bat, or how dangerous the challenge is. Just have him do it, and explain things as you go along, or have the rabbit guy stop him before going into the cage to explain things to him, but even then, all we needed to know what the challenge was and how to complete it. I know i'm overthinking this, but the few minutes really bothered me.

Honestly... I'm disappointed, it really shows that they only have 13 episodes to work with, a bunch of information, dialogue, character interactions and just scenes in general were cut, pacing is incredibly fast (We just went through the first test and half of the second test in the first episode) I honestly doubt it'll turn out to be a proper adaptation and there most likely will be a lot of stuff cut.

I can praise the visuals and sound tho, Kevin Penkin coming in with an absolutely fantastic OST and the sound design in general is really nice (I really liked the sound when Headon was walking). Animation and art are very solid from the looks of it and was pleasantly surprised to see that big creatures aren't CGI.

It'll probably be yet another anime that I'll just tell anime-only's to read the manhwa, but it's still nice to see these characters animated and voiced.

If the artyle is different, doesn't mean the visual is considered "bad", take an example of Mob Psycho 100, the visuals is really unique which fits any comedic scene in Mob Psycho 100. Well paced anime that adaptates 6 chapter per episode so 6×13=78=The end of Season 1 (Webmanga) The soundtrack isn't really fit, it's forced, the storyline not so based in 2010 i guess it's okay (late adaptation) The animations? I don't see anything interesting it's just an episode 1, give it a chance and watch for a Climacs fighting scene.

That's what a lot of the webtoons reader fear about that 13 episode adaptation. With everything left to tell in term of story, and knowing that the worldbuilding is pretty heavy in ToG, the serie will never take the time to sit to let the people the time to digest things. After that episode, I feel it will cut the world- and characterbuilding to the minimum (character definition of Headon, Yuri and Evan are too fast) and always be on fasttrack.

Wow, people are being harsh with it. Having your own vision and not seeing it as you imagined it must hurt.

I watched it quite objectively and overall i am super happy that TOG even has an anime now.

it felt a bit fast paced, but i wasn't disappointed at all. Maybe Khun's hair isn't that attractive as in the webtoon but I am still hyped for the series and that's what matters! :D

Finally Tower of God begins. Been following this manhwa for a long time now(after Noblesse ended) and has been one of the longest running series. They really made it look water art like with al those liquid animations. Also Kevin Penkin is in the music part, though I know the plot his music really keeps me on the edge.
Next we get the trio started.
When someone asks me why I like anime, I'd say Just Because.

Not gonna lie, this is the first time that I see an opening where the credits are not shown with the animation of the Opening but instead on a black background with nothing else. It's something different but I don't like it. It kinda interupts the flow of an Anime opening!

Song is good though, I like it!

Overall, I like the art style! I am intrigued with the story, it did feel quick, definitely going to continue this! No issues with the characters so far!

Also, Kevin Penkin with the music, oh yes!!

THE HYPE IS REAL! The first Korean manhwa to set waves in this transition age into anime. And it's all thanks to Crunchyroll for this.

Have to wholeheartedly agree that the OP is lame...what kind of opening has sequences like this...

But regardless, knowing the story of Rachel and the Irregular Twenty-Fifth Bam, this is just the start of the craze-filled adventure.

As for the first episode, it definitely felt fast-paced, spare the exposition but worldbuilding definitely wasn't the crux here, as much as the beginning is concerned. Seems like this season is aiming to finish Season 1 of the webtoon. But regardless, it's a great start.

The art itself of course, is justice to the manhwa, and having an anime like ToG is already expectations met.

OST is Kevin Penkin levels of greatness, not too shabby here! OP/ED is good though.

Definitely want more from this, and anticipating more down the line.

Thoughts so far.

Other than the fact that Bam is climbing the tower so he can find Rachel I have no idea what is going on with the story and the characters.

The art style looks a little dated, the music is pretty bad but it's not really the style of music that I like so if you're into it that's cool.

In terms of enjoyment it's not terrible I have an interest in finding out what happens next so mission accomplished I suppose. But I can't rate this first episode any higher than average.

I'm trying to think back to how many first episodes of an anime honestly dazzled me from the get-go. I think for a first episode, in terms of the OP, the OSTs throughout, the voice acting and animation, it was a really solid episode. The soundtrack alone has me wanting more.

Now, I've read the manhwa, I'm familiar with the source material, so I can imagine for new viewers, a lot happened in the episode that was confusing and quite literally, thrown at us very quickly. However, I think the direction they've gone so far was done well enough to create intrigue, mystery.

Obviously, no one story is going to hook everyone, but I really hope people don't drop this after the first episode because of the art or fast-pacing. Tower of God is seriously one of the best things I've ever read and have dreamed about this getting an anime adaptation for years.

Pretty solid first episode. The pacing is definitely pretty fast and the art style is something others are gonna have to get used to, but god I can't express how much potential this series has. As someone who has read the webtoon, this series only gets better and better with huge plot twists and world-building that is reaching the level of one piece.

Not really vibing to characters so far, especially with the main character. Doesn't seem that interesting or have any ambitions, he just wants be with some girl. The soundtrack and OP works well enough, nothing too special tho.

The art doesn't bother me, even though it does feel a bit cheap, I did enjoy looking at the creature designs and the settings.

Overall, it wasn't a good first impression from me but I am curious on where the story goes so I'll keep watching for now.

All facts my guy.

And also the pacing kinda felt off as well, didn't really give us proper time to establish the main characters and their setting. Also wished it alluded to the outside world consider Rachel (the blond character) said it was ugly or dirty (something like that) but it never really showed that.

Definitely not the best pilot episode but ay we'll see if it gets better (or worse).

Some people were saying it was very fast-paced but I didn't feel that.
OP and ED songs were pretty bog-standard kpop schlock and the visuals for them were pretty boring.
Visually it is very unique with it's distinct linework and coloring. they adapted the look of the webtoon very well.
Story-wise it is nothing to write home about but I can see the potential.
