I mean, plenty of definitions asserting it as a lack of sexual desire, a lack of interest in sexual activity, or a lack of sexual orientation, but nothing specifically tying it to real humans specifically. Not like I need a definition to understand that sexuality isn't something so narrow and concrete, mind you. Things tend to be a lot more fluid than that, and it's why I consider the whole incessant need to categorize and label things with levels of borderline autism to be completely superfluous. Hence why I'm not even doubting you, sexuality is something that's very present-tense and can be felt in ways somebody wouldn't have anticipated prior. Emphasizing these labels as a part of an identity is the bigger problem. and that is probably why somebody who's considered themselves lesbian their whole life can find attraction in a male anime character. Because, innately, there's no need for these categorizations in the first place, and straight, gay, lesbian, asexual, bisexual, et cetera, tend to be more definitions of the individual's most general state of attraction as opposed to the breadth of what they can potentially feel far, far more often than not. But no, even working off of your perspective, I'm going to argue that the object of one's sexual attraction and the way it's felt tend to be a much bigger part of defining one's sexuality than "is the object of sexual attraction real or not?" - thus, if somebody self-labels as lacking in sexual interest or desire, but then turns around and expresses sexual interest and desire, then it's fair to question whether or not they were correct in identifying themselves as such initially. There are reasons asexual people can engage in sexual activity, ranging from pleasure to wanting to reproduce, but these feelings towards fictional characters can only operate within the realm of feeling the kind of desire that runs counter-intuitive to asexuality itself. |

| I've never felt that way about anime characters. Romantic attraction? Sexual attraction? I have experienced neither. I have always only been vaguely aware that it is a real thing some people feel for anime characters. I think I understand it, I just don't relate to it. I can understand when an anime character is "hot". Noiz from DRAMAtical Murder is probably the "hottest" anime character to me. But I am not attracted to him. I am just aware that his style (facial piercings, clothing), is the kind of style I would be attracted to if it were in real life. And I use the term "hot" loosely. Again it's more that I *would* find him hot, *if* he were a real person. Being attracted to anime characters by itself is not a bad thing. It just is what it is. You can't help who you are or are not attracted to. If it were so easy, or even possible, gay conversion therapy would've actually been successful, instead of a huge failure time after time again. Unless this is disrupting your life in some way, I would not worry about it. If anyone judges you for it, then their opinion is not worth your time anyway. |
