You were only referring to her clothing when you first quoted me, unless you are also taking the "Complete asshole towards girls" part as something that will "make sense" later, which wouldn't make sense because if that's the major plot points you spoke of, then this anime might seem worse than I thought.

Anyway, I do hope this gets better like you say it is. All I know, is that this is somewhat related to an old Hentai.

In regards to the hentai, the hentai basically was a remix of the H-scenes within the game, which make up less than .1% of the entire script.

It's a shame the main complaints seem to mostly be that Takuya actually has confidence instead of not being able to socialize like a lot of other anime protagonists.

Although, I wouldn't even say Yu-No has much porn to begin with. The h-scenes were few, with hours of story in between. Not like Bible Black or School Days where the h-scenes make up the plot.

Being confident doesnt mean you have to be an asshole towards everyone. I dont mind if the MC's are confident like Bunny girl and oregairu, but he is just mean to everyone.

I recall 5pb. announcing the vn remake to come out on Steam to tie in with the anime. It might be a good idea to disregard this abomination and wait for the vn.

We've all watched enough vn adaptations to know that it's going to be another good story butchered for the sake of milking a well-known title. Spare yourself some major disappointment and move along.

No offense but I KINDA hate the old designs as the body proportions are pretty off-putting to look off. It's extremely outdated to me.

I'm just putting my two cents here.

I feel the exact same way but for the "new" designs painfully lazy generic bland anime designs. I'd take the old school VN or OVA style over this garbage (in freaking 2019 for a classic series sigh)

I guess that's fine.

But I'd rather take bland and at least decently proportioned designs over out of place disproportionated to the point where the adults look extremely ridiculous levels.

Mainly because at the moment I'm learning about anatomy (yes I draw by the way) so this KINDA hurts my eyes in the VN old style. Which is funny considering most of the time I ain't bug by old series designs but this one actually got me on my nerves.

Like at worst, the new designs might be considered lazy and bland, but they're not hurting my eyes.

I like it.

The idea of plot looks kind of similar to what they are doing in DC Comics/Warner Bros with The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow. And this show got this vibe like Bunny Girl Senpai even MC has some phrases similar to rascal Sakuta. I will definitly watch whole season and then rate it, also I like that they introduced a lot of women here. That's good start point.

With all due respect, you've got absolute no right or basis to call this an abomination at this point in time unless you've read the source material.

It's absolutely ludicrous that you would judge something immediately without any experience in it. Just because most visual novel adaptations are abominations doesn't mean this will be.

I've actually read the source and this first episode was an outstanding adaptation of the prologue, cutting out unnecessary things in order to get to the parts that matter faster and give them more time.

Believe it or not, they cut out about 90% of the unwarranted jokes from the prologue. The VN was much worse in that aspect and was one of the few things that annoyed me about it. I'm liking how much the anime has scaled back on the crude humor! There are much less jokes in the anime so far then there were in the visual novel.

I think they cut just the right amount to fit the prologue into one episode. The episode ended just about where I figured it would end, and that saves a good amount of space for the rest of the story compared to if it spaced the prologue out into two episodes.

I can't remember fully, but wasn't the part where Takuya jumped out in his underwear only mentioned in passing in the game? I think it was good for them to show that rather than to just mention it like how I recall it being.

Yeah, it was this:

Also, Kanna had transferred in two months before rather than during the 'present time' as shown in the episode, which I think was an alright change. Was just easier to label her as a new transfer student then waste time explaining how she transferred in 2 months prior.

It's still too early to judge this anime adaptation.

Looking past the character artstyle of the remake and how it feels a little rushed from cramming a 80+ hour VN into 26 episodes, the first episode still managed to be entertaining. As someone who has read the original VN, and it being my favourite game of all time, I say that the exposition is well laid out so far with just this one episode.

I would still advise playing the original game, and consider the remake and this anime adaptation as added bonuses. But if reading VNs is not your thing, definitely keep watching this, as this story at the time was what influenced many modern works, such as 999, Steins;Gate, and many other VNs. I just hope the rest of the episodes are portrayed well.

If anything, I would love to hear more opinions of those who've watched this without reading the source material, as I can't tell how effective the narrative of this version is for someone who might experience the story for the first time.

MAL kids generally have shit taste if you haven't already figured out already.

I don’t think so. As someone who went into this without knowing anything, it wasn’t a very good 1st episode. It felt rushed, low-quality production and characters, too many cliches and well, not good overall. I’m just being objective here.

Hm, while I really liked that they skipped some non-substantial parts of the prologue (overly long and hit-or-miss sequences in my opinion), they still left quite a bit of those in, for a normal "significant content per episode" ratio, and that kinda made the later part of the episode feel rushed as a result (hopefully properly revisited later on).

It's not like the cast will even be properly introduced (much less characterized outside of archetypical classic eroge behavior) with just the prologue, much like it wasn't the case with the VN, so most of the early interactions could have been implemented as minor flashbacks for their respective "story arcs", and instead have dedicated another couple of minutes to the actual story elements.

But that's just my opinion on that one, unless it was to be getting some extra run time to fit most of the content in.

In that case, I bet I wasn't the only one hoping for this to be an hour-special first episode adapting the whole prologue, but anyway. It still is a bit too early to judge if this will or not be a competent adaptation in the end.

So far it's okay and decent enough imo, I just hope they keep the infodumps and all the major plot developments and characterization in.

I like that the OP song sounded like it came from Steins;Gate, but alas it's not sung by Itou Shizuka. I'll have to look at what other works Asaka had done since I'm curious about it.

It hopped from scene to scene bit too much to properly invest myself into the atmosphere and setting, but I do like that the effort was made to show the action of other characters concurrent with what the MC is doing.

It's amusing to know that everyone has their own schedule and operates outside of what the MC does. First thing that comes to my mind would be Disgaea Infinite; by simply choosing different actions and places to be, the outcome will change despite the other character's schedule -who aren't being acted upon- continuing to be constant.

Yuuki still looks like a dork but his personality hasn't changed; he retains his inner bro. Pretty sure his new appearance will grow on me as time goes on.
The site foreman's stride was really weird, whether it was simply matter of depth perception or lack or forcefulness in his animation, I assume an air of seriousness was to be portrayed but it didn't work out that way.
I found it quite comedic that the BGM was lighthearted when YU-NO disappeared like pixie dust.

Overall a decent start.

And that's the joke. It's not the first time I see that kind of gags. I don't know... at least when I was watching the episode, I've not noticed anything offensive. The joke of undressing in class was something ridiculous for the fact that they let him do it and... just that. I don't deny it, maybe I've not paid enough attention to certain dialogues in order to notice a mean context.

Maybe is just me, but he looks like a likeable main character.

The only weird thing for me is how the girls are presented, but knowing how the visual novel's prologues works... it's just routine.

Hoping this doesn't just end up as another forgettable visual novel adaption of a so called popular, renown visual novel.

Visually, this was uninspiring and bland, especially so for the first episode and the character designs are so visual novel standard despite having been updated and being animated. Honestly, it feels like I'm watching a typical visual novel adaption back if it was adapted in the early 2000's.

The story is the only thing holding onto my interest, hopefully enough not to drop it within the next couple episodes.

After seeing it's cover thought it'd be one of those "dad died and now I've to find a wife" stories, not what I was expecting but it wasn't bad I guess. Really doubt this can be better than Steins:gate and even Re Zero, though.

Funnily I watched the hentai before playing the game, although I already knew about the game since I like to keep up with retro video games.

Anyways, I watched the hentai first, and it melted my mind so much that I ended up playing the game the next day then spend a whole week playing roughly 10 hours a day until I got to the end.

Edit: But since I've only said positive things so far, I suppose I'll mention the things I didn't like.

I felt like they shouldn't have cut out Takuya looking for Ayumi after he woke up with the headache. I think they could have maybe shown him running to a few locations calling out for her instead of cutting straight to him going home.

While I warmed up to the redesigns, I still have a hard time fully liking Takuya's redesign. In the original, his hair was short in the back and longer in the front, and he wore jeans and a denim jacket. I think that design would help fit with his more confident class-clown archetype. If not the denim jacket, then at least keep the hair like the hentai did (the hentai got rid of the jacket but kept the hair.) I just feel like they made him look a little too serious, when really he's more like a Joey Wheeler from Yu-Gi-Oh.

The problem is that the design used in the 90s is the typical design used by all the nv of those years in its protagonists, even something that is used a lot in the hentai, protagonists who do not see their faces because their hair.

PD:seriously, if people now have problems with the protagonist it is better that they leave the anime now lol

Yeah, tbh I would consider the mystery genre to be more fitting than the drama one in the tags.

Something mildly funny I noticed about the older hentai adaptation was that MC spends most of his time going "wth is going on around here?!" or "I just don't get it!" and it's especially funny in the English dub cause of the obvious cringe of 90s voice acting.

You know, it actually was off-putting to watch something so screaming of an old-fashioned story with such modern designs. I'm not aware of the original or previous version but maybe if they kept these designs it would be at least charming in a way.

On one hand it would.

But considering how modern designs are, chances are these designs will only limit even more and won't adapt into the current day and age of how the industry does.

Take the example of Arifureta's designs before the change of staff for instance. Where the designs for that series looked like it came out from 2003 and in some way it didn't worked well because those types of designs are outdated.

I'm not saying that the designs can't work in anime form, they can. If anything I was just criticizing the old design sprites from the Visual Novel at face value which admittedly... I shouldn't have done that. I still don't like them though

There's no harem.

Gonna give it a few more episodes, but probably gonna drop it. Bad animation, boring characters, main idea already done to death.

This idea was original back when the story was released in 1996 and it's done much better than anything modern.

First drop of the season. Very generic/uninteresting all around.

Suit yourself, we'll be happy to have you back in 10 episodes when you hear how amazing it turns out to be.

Looks like a typical trashy sci-fi anime. Blatantly forgettable character design. Completely boring visual. The only thing I'm slightly interested in is the hinted romance between the hero with the older women around him - but I'm quite sure nothing will happen in such a mediocre show.

If you want spoilers I can tell you why you're completely wrong about nothing happening.

Maybe it was somewhat original in 1996 but we are over 20 years later. Even so not a great start. I will give it a chance but I doubt it deserves it.

It definitely deserves it, the plot is unique and worth it. It does stuff I've not yet seen modern anime do, which you'll find out if you keep watching.

I don't know how you can say based on one episode that has the purpose of introducing the characters and setting that the idea is done to death when you don't even know what the idea is going to be.

Because I know. Is the same idea used for the movie Sliders. Each possible event in time space generates a different universe. The device allows one to travel through them. The girl that disappears is part of such a universe but from that universe future. Seems to be a duplicate of the new colleague. Should I say more info I found from this episode? Personally I hate the idea of multiple timelines. I rather like the Prince of Persia time mechanics.
