Would've preferred a more conclusive ending (whether it was learning about Nino's past or just some romantic conclusiveness), but still a solid season.

8/10 like the first season.

As always from Shaft, what a unique and amazing series. The interesting cast and the hilarious comedy more than made up for the lack of a plot.

The disappointing ending was already something I expected. The manga has over 150+ chapters and each episode covers about 2 chapters worth (from what I've heard). It's no surprise they ended as they did. For me, it's off to the manga to see where the story takes them.

A disappointment after S1's point-to-point 'from intros to story' direction, but not an unexpected one. Gag mangas are made in such a way that, once the characters and set-up are established, all you get are the same jokes repeated until cancellation. THAT'S IT! You don't get depressing drama or plot twists with these kind of series... which is a shame when the colourful cast assembled in S1 and the issues that lead them to live on the riverbank would've been excellent to see explored. (I wish the series had ended shortly after S1, with the tone switching from slapstick to drama--the cast being shown getting their lives in order... but that'd be a different genre and stop money being made.)

Throughout S2 I found myself checking my Blu-ray player timer to see if I'd reached the 20-minute mark. The runaway mangaka wasn't funny, and the only time the amazoness was funny was when Ric was hypnotised. The rest of the random, utterly plotless humour was either a) a repeat of what was shown in S1 or b) OTT nonsense there to mask a lack of creativity. By the end, I was just glad it was over. Don't think I'd watch a third season.

Also: there was a CLEAR indication Venus craziness would wrap-up the series - adding a sense of purpose - from around the halfway mark. Even the OP suggested it. But that was one big lie and, instead, it ended with an aside-from-Maria crappy shounen battle parody that extended from ep12. LAME!

Loved the random slapstick humour of this show. A lot of laugh out moments. And Nino has to be one of the more distinctly beautiful characters in anime. It's a shame it ended kind of inconclusive, but that generally happens when the source material is not yet finished.

I really hope for a season 3.

I laughed a lot, but I really feel like this show had potential to be more. I wish it had gone more into Nino and Ko, or at least explained Nino's past AT ALL. I felt like it kept hinting at something bigger behind everything, but it never did anything about it! Who knows, maybe they'll go into it more in a third season? Or maybe this was just another "read the manga" type ending that I cant do anything about?! Gah.

Course it could all just be to the fact that the manga was still ongoing at the time. Guess Ill I can hope for is a third season, which at this point is unlikely. Sigh.

If you really want to fit in, just put Legend of the Galactic Heroes in your top 5 and have it be the only 10-rated anime in your list.

When they fuck get into damned Venus?
who is misterious person in office? chief?
what happened with father of main hero? nothing?
GOD DAMN.
The worst ever ending,
okay graphic was good, and sounds of sunohair also awesome. But storyline is pretty crappy!

What mofugga? Were you by any chance watching something else? The things you listed doesn't amount to beans. His father barely had any significance in the story as it is, of course it's the damn Cheif, and the story goes beyond the Anime. I'm glad they ended the way it did, trying to bite off any more would result in nothing more but awkward last minute pacing. Either finish the Manga or wait for S3.

This series could've been really good in my opinion if they toned down on the comedy, gave some background info on the residents, developed the storyline more, and put more focus on the romance. Still an interesting anime though.

I think you are better off watching a more romance based anime to start with. The comedy was what made me fall in love with this series and personally I wouldn't change it. It's good at what it does but definitely isn't a serious story based romance.

amazing series :D

really enjoyed, and i agree it's more comedy at first then romance.

Season 2 is better just because we got more screen time with other characters like Billy, Jacqueline, and Last Samurai ^^

shame there's no Ko's father, at least Takai had some moments as well as Shimazaki and Whitey scene XD

the Metal Gear Solid reference was amazing and funny as hell XD

Maria vs Sister is awesome!!!

it's like they're moving in slow motion XD

sister couldn't handle her poisonous tongue XD

Bald Nino O______O

Maria as the Queen of Arakawa :)

of course Nino and Ric scenes are always lovely!

i love the opening S1 was brought back as ED :)

Nino as starry angel is soo gorgeous!

Maria as the tamer :)

also why did they only play Maria's version of the OP one time in episode 2 of the first season?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j4qQSpynW54

come on i love Miyuki Sawashiro's voice and i want to hear her sing more!

last character art T__T

i want Season 3 Arakawa Under the Bridge and new season of Sayonara Zetsubou!!

i've been waiting for those two to have new animation since it's been awhile since we had a new show on either sides.

SHAFT has been too busy with Monogatari series(love it, but i want some comedy too!)

plus i love the cast on both sides, i really enjoyed Maaya Sakomoto in this one :D

and yeah definitely gonna watch Yojouhan Shinwa Taikei! but that's because Arakawa and Yojouhan looks similar to each other.

it was only coincidence that Maaya was the main role on each show :)

plus i heard the ED, and i freaking love the beat!

please SHAFT Season 3 and new Sayonara Zetsubou!!!

9/10 just because i had a lot of laughs and love the references(especially Metal Gear Solid!!)

To be honest I was rather disappointed about the ending, I really hoped they'd proceed with the story of Nino and going to Venus but to be honest the great hilarious moments and nice pacing with some superb voice acting sure made up for it and I sure must say that I loved the whole series and would've loved to see more!

All by all this sure was one hell of a lovely series!

8/10 because I really started to enjoy the comedy of this show with S2, however I was a bit disappointed that they didn't carry on with the Nino/Venus story arc after episode 11. The Kings Game arc right at the end felt somewhat out of place :/

I really wanted to get to know more about Nino's background and I'd have loved to have seen a Season 3 that gives us some of her history, but alas, it seems like it has been too long for there to be another season :(

Definitely not as good as the first season. They way it picked up right after the first season as if it never ended, and how the ending was pretty bad, it's more like this was just the second cour of season 1.

The jokes were just as good, but they introduced plot elements that never came to fruition. Sure you can argue that with this show comedy comes before plot, but even in season 1, Ko's estranged relationship with his dad was one of the main plot points and they didn't fail to flesh it out.

In this season we got a random amount of Billy and Jaqueline, and P-ko being annoying as hell.

The romance between Ko and Nino was pretty much tossed aside. We know the chief has even bigger connections to the corporate world than Ko, but we know nothing about his real identity. They never told us anything more about Nino's parents or what the tapes said, or what about her was so important that the assistant was looking up. We don't know about Venus (or if Nino actually IS from Venus). We got a tease first season about Ko's dad and his presumably dead mother, and how it affected his dad. That was never actually brought to light though.

Seeing as how I just watched this like 4-5 years after it aired, there's no way we'll get a season 3. Hell, the comments of the first page from people watching it WHILE it was airing said there probably wouldn't be a third season.
So unfortunately, unless you read the manga you are never going to get any answers. Writing was pretty bad this season compared to the first one.

I think the ending was actually much less inconclusive than generally perceived. There are two essential elements in what Ric tells Nino during the 'true' final scene:
    1. He now knows the river
    2. He understands why Nino sometimes looks so lonely
First of all by saying he knows the river he states that its banks are now also HIS home (and thus he has no reason to leave). More importantly though, it signifies how he has moved from tolerating, perhaps even accepting Nino's world and thoughts, to embracing them and thinking WITH her.

Secondly, while Nino might be batshit crazy, she is NOT stupid. For example, remember how quickly she grasped that Amazoness liked Hoshi? We can in fact quite safely assume that she understands perfectly well how crazy she is herself. She might also be rather expressionless, but definitely not emotionless, and is far more scared of Ric leaving HER, then he is of her leaving him. This is what makes her lonely. She know's she's crazy, she knows others think she's crazy. She fears they really only tolerate her, but will eventually leave her, and there's nothing she can do about it (just like when Ric was hypnotised by the Tengu). The whole Venus myth probably serves mainly as a safety barrier for when they do. If she can "rationalise" why she can't allow others to stay with her, then them leavin her can not hurt her. This makes the first point, about Ric's remark concerning the river, all the more important.

Finally there's Ric's promise about staying together forever. On itself it's nothing special, he even said it before on multiple occasions. However, this was Nino's Queen prize wish, whish she had squarely lost. Yet here is Ric giving it to her, his and the riverbank's true Queen, because he wants to, not by decree. He also shows he finally understands how much the others mean to Nino, that they mean a lot to him too, and that he is willing to "share her".

Ok I just finished to watch Arakawa Under the Bridge x Bridge and I must say it didn't live up to the first season which was simply amazing. From what I've gathered the 2nd season strayed off the manga for some unknown reason to me at least!
So, what I'd really like to do now is pick up the manga and see for myself how this masterpiece is really supposed to end. So at which chapter do you guys think it's safe for me to start or do I have to start from chapter 1?!

Good episode. I expected for travel of venus of last episode. But this tournament make me a big surprised.
Maria despite being a strong woman. As most women their power is in sharp language.
That's a big fight. the victory of maria is probably.
But one fight maria vs amazoness is very interesting in continuation or spin-off.
Maria is a good woman. The humor is very great and funny.
the last 5 episodes of 195-200 are the funniest parts of final of this episode.
The romance in nino-san and recruit is very beautiful, kawaii and adult.
Beautiful final. O desejo da nino no final foi o mais bonito.
the number 200th is more beautiful.

Such a dissapointment. The biggest reason why I like the first season of Arakawa is because the characters are still fresh and the show doing a great job for explore and show jow strange they are, not to mention there's a prominent plot about the demolishment of the bridge by Kou's father. In the second season however, it is become very plotless and since we already what their personalities and quirks are, they’re now just moving puppets in gag scenes and become less interesting. The new character is not interesting either. Damn
I'm too weird to live but much too rare to die.

Eh, nothing really happened in this season. The humor got stale for me in the middle of season 1 and there wasn't really much of note that happened in this show. Mediocre overall, IMO.

Also, weren't they going to go to Venus? Whatever happened to that? Does that happen after this in the manga?

3/5 for the episode, 5/10 for the season.

Yeah the fact that they abandoned the Venus idea is worrisome. If you are going to put an actual plot in why give up? The father trying to buy the land last season was enjoyable and resolved, so if they can't finish it why bother adding it to this season.

Similar to the first season, season two had its share of strong and weak episodes, but unlike the second season, the first carried the storyline about Kou and his father all the way through, and even brought some closure to it. If we compare the whole Venus plotline to it, season two failed in that regard.

I found this series absolutely hilarious! My only gripe is the ending is left with many questions unanswered. A thing that really annoyed me, since there is premise for a lot of story and character development at the point it stopped... Nonetheless it was still an enjoyable ride. Wow, what a piece of garbage that ended up being. I actually really liked the first half of the first season. The plot was simple but effective: A) His motto was to never take favors from anyone so he wanted to pay her back. B) Romance. It also had a nice little lesson to show in don't judge a book by its cover (referring to the residents) and I liked the whacky comedy alongside the plot. Then the romance and story-lines went completely by the wayside and it became a simple, cheesy slice of life comedy until the bitter end.

ALSO can someone tell me what happened to the going to Venus plot-line?? Was that called off and I wasn't paying attention? What happened to the messages Nino was receiving from Venus or the fact she's from Venus... Also, Kou is the CEO of several major companies. Did he just give that all up to live under the bridge? Since we saw him going to work. Man, the most disappointing aspect is the romance never blossomed like it should have. That was the whole damn point in the beginning. This went from originally an 8 in my book to a 5 by the end of it. All though, I love Maria so was glad to see the last ep revolve around her.. oddly.
