THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
Episode is titled "The World in Colors" for the season finale and no OP song this time. Out on Amazon Prime now.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07J1X1L7X/

We got a celebration of the show's themes and feelings of all the characters. Those embraces ;_;

I think it's wonderful that they have so much trust in each other at this point in the show. Yuito also plays an important role to help Hitomi to the very end. Seriously, what a strong connection they've build since the first episode. About time that Hitomi can finally see colors too. Seems to be a mental problem from the beginning.

Pretty good show overall imo. I don't think PA Works has any other projects lined up next year but looking forward to whatever they have in the future.

Good finale, ended the way I expected it to but with a little sudden dramatic turn of events in the middle which I personally thought was unneeded.

Watching everyone say goodbye to Hitomi was sad but I think the real emotional part was Hitomi's reunion with her grandmother Kohaku who was finally able to open up to her about everything. The narration of the picture book that Yuito wrote was extremely well done especially the ending with "What color am I?" part was quite emotional.

I wish there was more time spent in the montage of Hitomi learning to live her life in the future and I would've loved more stuff with the old gang meeting a young Hitomi like that one shot of Yuto giving little Hitomi his picture book. Anyway, it was a good way to end the show.

Overall, it was a pretty good show. The premise of the series showed great promise on paper, the idea of an introverted depressed girl travelling back in time to rediscover the joy of life sounds like something that would feel really rewarding and uplifting to watch but unfortunately I think that turned out to be my biggest problem with the show , I expected a different side of the show to be in the limelight, something more like what this episode was about to be the major focus of the entire series but unfortunately this element was downplayed a fair bit. It's not the show's problem but my mistake having expected another 3-Gatsu no Lion. I suppose my biggest issue is that the parts that I really wanted to see were kinda scattered in the middle of regular high school drama which didn't exactly have the greatest execution. It wasn't bad but perhaps it could've been better in the sense of showcasing how Hitomi grows as a character instead of how it's just narrated in the finale. The visual presentation was absolutely fantastic, P.A. Works outdid themselves with the visuals. The characters were good, Kohaku carried this show more for me than Hitomi which may not entirely be a good thing because of what the premise is. However, all said and done this is still a pretty good show.

I am glad that Hitomi found a form of happiness and was able to turn her life around a bit hopefully she will meet someone nice in her own timezone as well.

love can change the way you see the world! hooray love!

the idea being so simple, yet so boring and dull to watch. (even watching logan paul miraculously fixing his colorblindness with some glasses was far more entertaining) the way the stretched out Hitomi's emotional development was a snorefest. barely any emotional connection with any from the cast, i guess only Kohaku was somewhat charismatic, but it wasn't enough. the finale just felt like Angel Beats, only less tear jerking. sasuga PA Works

visually beautiful, yet so dull story-wise. it's like i'm watching Violet Evergarden again... a real shame

OOH, FINALLY the last episode is out!

In the midst of Hitomi's farewell, everyone is still appreciative of one another, and OH THE FEELS. Makes me wanna tear up badly. But as is with Kohaku, the *Mischief Managed* magic part went astray...

AND...finally Hitomi realizes that she doesn't need to confine to her own limits, and thus breaks down her mentality to see colours once again. That confession...rejoicing after 3 months long!

At long last, Hitomi is back in her own time, but no longer with her constraints, and with a new-found happy spirit. No longer her introverted self, but an outgoing self for a change.

An omage to Yuito for chibi Hitomi's read of his book, and the best compilation of Kohaku's (and Hitomi's) memories.

"I wonder what colour am I?" Off to set a new colour for her ownself!

A very good show that takes strides home.

P.A. Works did it again. Last year - Sakura Quest, this year Irozuku.
Yes. It's my favorite series of this year. I loved the direction, characters, general atmosphere and art quality.
I was afraid that they screw up the ending with unnecessary sweetness (like taking Yuito into the future), but thankfully, it ended perfectly.

A amazing anime from the start to finish. I was enjoying the whole time i was watching. A very underrated anime, a hidden jem of this season. The animation is stunning, the characters are all really likeable and the story is predictable but fulfilling. It didn't go full drama and it didn't do anything super special but it delivered a well put story like we wanted.

Well, both the male and female lead isn't the talkative type so, I guess it's just hard to get people attached with them.
But man, I didn't expect it would be that emotional. Especially that penguin book part.

"A single feeling can change the world"

What a wonderful journey. It was like a dream and the ending was perfect the way it was. Hitomi can finally be happy in her own timeline and is now starting to live her life the way she always wanted to be able to. What a beautiful Anime.

That was a nice last episode. I honestly wasn't sure how it was gonna end, but it was nice and bittersweet. Not even a kiss between Yuito and Hitomi though? Tch, talk about a let down. A bit sad we didn't get to see the characters in the future, but as said by someone previously in the forum, Hitomi's current friends look suspiciously a lot like Asagi x Shou and Kurumi x Chigusa. Also, looks like Kohaku's husband and Hitomi's grandfather is the guy from the magical bookstore. Can't say I'm surprised.

Overall, I feel like this show started out well, got a bit crappy with all the drama in the middle episodes and had a few good final episodes. If it would have been more consistent I would have liked it more, but considering how boring I found it a lot of the time, its a 6/10 from me.

I mainly agree with this post.

The characters and writing were fine, but this show truly shined in the audio and visual department. It really capitalized on these aspects and gave us something beautiful. Especially in this bittersweet finale.

I'm a sucker for drama and this was my favorite one cour show this season.

I'm so sad it's over aaaaaaaaa! I'm so happy Hitomi can see colors now and isn't as closed off anymore but I wish she could have seen Yuita again. Him being the author of that children's book makes up for it though.. it's bittersweet. It would've been nice if there were a reunion of the club in 2078 too but overall I'm satisfied with the ending.

Beautiful, heartrending and a very fitting finale episode to conclude such an astonishing series! It truly was a near perfect ending and you don’t often get that from anime series, so definitely a very delightful and gratifying treat!

Hitomi’s farewell and vice versa was really saddening and even more impactful to see the girls in tears, it really must have been a really hard farewell to come to terms with. Yuito didn’t have much to say initially and that was a bit aggravating of sorts to see(but you really can’t blame him, he probably that’d be best for both Hitomi and himself) but it pleasing to see Hitomi’s magic interesting with the process to steal a few more minutes or so. Finally at long last, we got the confession! But it really was like a pluck in the heartstrings, wasn’t it? Boy, the insert song that played during this series was so very touching and soothing to hear though, it really elevated the impact of the scene a zillion times there! And this coupled with the glorious P.A. Works animation treat, scintillating stuff! Final burst of goodbyes from the members were a nice addition too and all the more saddening. Kohaku’s revelation that it was in fact Hitomi’s magic that was running out was a little bit of a shock but it was nice to see her more determined than ever right afterwards. Lol, “Level 77” though, Grandma Kohaku really is witty and entertaining just like the old days. Most importantly, it was great to see Hitomi regain back her sense of colour and the background sceneries from that moment onwards were just an intriguing eye-candy, especially those fireworks(dang it, they don’t look that good irl to me)!
Moving on, the little scene between the driver and Hitomi was heartwarming to see, big grin during that change scene though. I, for sure, thought he was looking for more of those Pockies there xD. Overall, it was a big contrast to the first ride and it was nice to see the driver well aware of that fact, or so it seemed like to me. Really, Hitomi has changed a lot and it was enticing to see her growth throughout the course of the series. Lots of interesting bits of info thrown in towards the end too. It’s no wonder that she could read the book previously during her tough times because it was written by noneother than Yuito himself. Sweet stuff right there! Moreover, there was a frame of Kohaku with that delivery boy so I’m assuming that’s who Hitomi’s grandfather is. Why didn’t they like add in a 10 second convo of Hitomi recognising him though or something of the sort? It really would’ve cleared this mystery up completely. Anyway, moving on, the Magic Photography Club is there even after the long time gap and that was very pleasing to see!
Is it just me or did those two girls look like Asagi x Shou’s and Kurumi x Chigusa’s grandchildren there? Very nice to see that! Also, who’s grave did Hitomi visit there in the end? Something tells me it might’ve been Yuito’s but it’s probably just her mother’s, I’ll probably ponder over it now for a while.

All in all, a near perfect ending to what has been a mesmerising and phenomenal show with its ups and downs! I’ll maybe edit the post later on to breakdown the scores of the individual departments, but as a whole I’ll give this show a 7.5/10 => 8/10. Sure, most of the filler-like episodes had little to do with the overarching plot(as it’s called) but they really set the tone for these final few episodes to take things to the climax and finally the conclusion. No doubt the show could’ve done with 12 episodes however and I honestly think that would’ve probably been the better choice, but the more episodes the happier I am so I’m not really complaining y’know.

P.A. Works does it again, can’t wait to see what next they have in store for us now!

That was an awesome show. I love the idea that Yuito and all the others designed the children's book just for Hitomi, telling their shared story in a very nice way. I just wonder what happened to the others, if they are all still alive and meet her now that she knows who they are.

I also loved how Yuito broke down the gray room that Hitomi had built around herself. And I absolutely expected that ending but still had to cry a lot :'(

At the beginning of the show it was quite decent and maybe a 7, since I enjoyed it a lot but I didn't consider it that outstanding. Well, the last few episodes and especially the last one gave it a little boost (despite the predictable end) and finally turned it into a 8/10 for me.

Such a shame, it had so much promise and ended up a generic romance series and a meh one at that, which used it's themes of depression and magic so weakly.

I honestly think it was the perfect ending that this anime could have.
A mode to stay in the past would be forced, a mode to take young Yuito into the future with Hitomi even more.
Whoever thinks anime endings should always gave the main character the 120% of what they should have really should shut up... and yes i saw a lot up in the comments.
As i said, perfect ending. I was going for a 7.5 but after this it surely deserved a solid 8.

I thought it was a good final episode with a touching farewell between Hitomi and everyone. I am somewhat disappointed with the conclusion. I don't feel a lot of payoff from Yuito and Hitomi's relationship. I think the pointless drama and slow middle could of been replaced with more development between them. The final goodbye and them not being able to see each other would of had a lot more impact if they actually progressed. (At least a kiss or something) That being said I think the show was visually amazing with a lot of the art scenes being really nice. Overall it was ok 6/10.

Yuito was the reason she was sent back. Their love revived his art and made her see the world in colors. It was his book that she and her mother read together
At the end it was to make things right between her,her mother and her grandmother
Glad she and Yuito got to confess since they would never see each other again
All he could do for her was tell her loved her give her colors and a book that connected to her future

At first, I expected that the anime is deep and I am a kind of person who are not into romance but will give it a try if I find it different from those other romance animes.

Reading the synopsis makes me want to watch it since it tackles all about depression. And as I watch I'm starting to feel lost on the story and somehow, because of the slow pacing of the main story, I got lost. I think the anime already focuses on romance and slightly on the part that I expected it to have. And I've grown to like the romance part of them since they have been focusing on that part. And there's this last episode where I felt disappointed.

I felt disappointed because it turns out that the anime is all about the individual growth (deep part) of the protagonist which is back to what I expected it to be at first but it's not what the whole run of the anime make feel it is.

It's a good anime overall. It just depends on what you expected of it and how you will accept the ending.

PS. But somehow, reading some comments of others about the anime makes me realize some meaningful part since I've been expecting it to pursue romance. And if it somehow reduces the romance and focuses on the problem, it will surely be a 10/10 for me since the ending really is a blast and focuses on the problem and how it was solved. But if they focuses on romance, I will surely give it an 8/10. Since it is i think one of the best romance anime I watched. (I'm not really into romance. HAHAHA)

I don't know
This show actually Made me confused, i don't know what to Think of it
For every little piece of beautiful art and visual storytelling there is a dull character or a Nothing romance
For every Amusing introspective part there is a generic slice-of-life part

In my opinion this show is the literal definition of inconsistency, for Every amazing and vivid color there is a grey one that doesn't fit at all

I Think i liked it, but I am really confused🤔, i need some time to think it through🤔

One thing is for sure, the visuals were absolutely stunning
(Ok but some of the character writing was kind of lazy)DAMNIT

This should have been a 2 cour series but it wasn't. Therefore a lot had to be crammed in and i think PA Works were a bit overly ambitious about this anime.

The endgame was superb IMO (meaning episodes 11 - 13) but i also have to say that i would have really liked to see Hitomi's further adventure in a 2nd cour and slowly meeting all her friends from the past, but oh well, it wasn't meant to be. Even a tiny bit of a reunion would have done...

Yeah I felt the same way. At first I thought this anime would surpass what Violet Evergarden tried to do. Very beautiful, but their events couldn't handle the emotions properly and fell short.

It was painful but good painful.
Ended pretty much like I expected it would. What I didn't expect is that I would love this show so much. Upped it to 10/10. Just because I don't see anything wrong here, very solid story that pushed all the right emotional buttons for me.
I would like to see what happens next with Hitomi in the future, I would have loved to see her together with Yuito, it was a great romance, but the way it ended is good. I'm glad there weren't any cheap happy-ends with sudden solutions out of nowhere. Like Hitomi herself said, it was sad but still happy.

I was so not ready for this, eventho what was going to happen in the end was going to be obvious... However midway during the episode I honestly thought the ritual to send Hitomi back was going to fail and she would be stuck in the time with Yuito, simply cause she was unconsciously interefering with the magic. I feel kinda bad thinking that I would have prefered that ending better...

Nice touch showing some more grandchildren from other couples in one of the last scenes, I liked that.

Visually, PA Works doesn't disappoint, was just beautifull all the way through the Anime!

Overall 9/10

Yea i wanted another more happy ending. But yea i am not disappointed.
This was kind of a satisfying sweet melancholic ending to be honest.
Everyone saying their goodbyes to Hitomi, the feels hitting everytime someone stepped up to say something.
And then the Aoi ,hitomi scene, the confession and when Hitomi left. The Feels train just hit you at full speed.

So beautiful, yet sad.

Grandma Kohaku level 77. So sweet yet funny xD

A sweet reunion. Beautiful Visuals by PA works again. Mesmerizing.

Nostalgia for Both Hitomi and the viewers.

Here's Hoping to a Second season. I really want Aoi and Hitomi together. Wishful thinking. :)

Pretty much my thoughts exactly down to the wire. Started off great, fell flat in the middle and made a slight comeback at the end. Also no kiss rip

Not exactly a masterpiece, but gets the job done

Telling Hitomi's story.

A story about a young girl who could not see colors, whose life was blighted by something sad that happened in the past.

Somehow, Hitomi finds the strength to live her life...no longer living on false assumptions.

Great anime...8/10.

I doubt we would see a season 2. And damm.....unrequited/star crossed love. Japanese people seem to love those type of stories.

Sad about Yuito though. Nice scene between him and Hitomi(though man, why didn't you kiss the girl? Oh I forgot...they're Japanese!)

Like the show anyways.

I did not see that coming, nice!

Does anyone know whose grave Hitomi visited?

From the way she was responding...it was most likely Yuito's grave.

I suspect the rest of the gang is alive and well though.

I freaking knew that this show is going to use 'power of love' to make fix mc's color blind and it did afterall. And most of the scenes executions and dialogs didn't make any sense and all went through typical. Really frustrated how whole uncreative this original show has been and didn't took any risk telling something different.

I can't think of any redeeming quality from this show to worth watching except the magic and visuals were just okay not like VE though.
