Good start. People who call Ichiro bad need watch more anime. He jumped fast to mecha compared to Shinji. Female Tauburn looks great.

And dropped, this was a very boring first episode and nothing really made me want to stay for more. The visual presentation was boring and lackluster, but it's what I expected from A1. Hopefully whatever else Trigger are working on ends up being better because this shit sucks. Characters were also pretty boring and obnoxious. The use of CG was jarring and the backgrounds were lackluster and boring. Just boring, boring, boring everywhere. The character interactions weren't very believable to me either, I don't know, something just feels off in general with this.

Holy shitaste, but whatever. What jarring CGI are you talking about?

I could say the same about you. It's pointless to watch more anime if you don't gain anything from it, like you, if you consider something like this good. Whatever, who cares, since I'm done with this garbage show. Actually, do you even pay attention to what you watch, I guess it's no surprise that you've seen over a thousand shows and still have low standards and questionable tastes, since you didn't notice any CG, kek.

Edit: Oh, you're one of those people that watches every piece of shit from an anime season, so I shouldn't be surprised you can't process what you're watching.

Sooo, this first episode seems an awful lot like another trainwreck I'd watched before:

-Bland, depressing protagonist meets pink-haired tease with her boobs out.
-Teens are protecting the world.
-A brunette with feelings for the main protagonist dies.
-In the end, the bland protagonist is intrigued by pink-haired girl and joins up with her.
-Together, bland protagonist and pink-haired girl can channel all-powerful abilities.
-Good graphics and ost.

For my sake, I hope this doesn't turn out the same way.

You can't get a fully fleshed with badass traits and edgy scars MC-kun from the get go. There's is something called Character Development and moving the story.

Do i need to remind people this is Episode 1?

Seriously people ask to much for a main character to match their standards.

Zero Two best girl of 2018 btw.

Heh.

The show seems like it could be very good but this first episode felt like a bad choice from start to finish. It is something I believe belongs more naturally somewhere mid season than as a pilot episode, too much emotional emphasis with zero context and too many factors that are already interacting. I spent the whole experience struggling as if I had to catch up to the story and the world, instead of just getting it in a natural and organic way. It's not a matter of not understanding here, but of being as a spectator, always two steps behind what I'm being told.

I thought it was decent, great art and all, hard to judge characters since only the two leads really got any detail but seem OK. I prefered the animal form of the mech far more, the actual mech design just isn't what i like but not enough to not watch it. Not bad

Got some good vibes for this show from NGE, TTGL, and gun/diebuster. and i LOVED all of those, so I am really excited for this.
MC was eh, but so was shinji and simon in the first eps of their shows, and theyre some of my favourites, so hopefully he grows too.

I genuinely felt for him and naomi though. not even sure what over, but I hope she isnt gone. That little scene i think was just well done and intriguing.

The visuals are like Gurren Lagann or KLK, and the setting is sort of like Shinsekai Yori, SukaSuka, or last season's Children of the Whales.

The execution feels pretty good. From the first minute of the show I could tell I was watching something interesting based on the dialogue alone. (I'm pretty sure I've ever heard anything remotely similar to a half-monster mech-pilot girl complaining about wanting a bath and smelling funny)

This is a much-needed anime for the mecha genre, which has kind of dried up lately. I have no doubt that mecha fans will love this show and value it highly. I don't think it brings much new things to the table, but one could argue the mecha genre doesn't really need new ideas (and it'd be damn hard to come up with them, some 40-ish years in).

I'll probably watch this all through the season, I'm honestly excited to see more awesome battle sequences and character interactions. I think this show has a lot of potential to create interesting chemistry between its cast, especially with Zero Two's ludicrously lewd and straightforward approach to things contrasting with the more reserved personalities of the rest of the cast.

Fucking garbage. Probably the fact that the show was supposed to air in Spring 2018 doesn't help much.

Nice starto! Fighto! One of my pick ups for this season and I am not disappointed. I am glad the female main character has some bones, unlike a cute kawaii weakling. Otherwise, I would feel awkward for the anime's atmosphere, but the male one looks whacky.

When I heard the title of the series, I was wondering why they gave such weird name to an anime, then I watched it and 1) Zero Two calls the main character "darling" and 2) the mechas of the series are called FranXX, hence "Darling in the FranXX".
I felt so stupid when I realized why the staff decided to call the anime that way, lmao.

Eh.. it was fine i guess. The conspect looks promising, the Franxx design is awesome and i can definitly see this becoming a quite epic series possibly.. still the first episode in general was just average.
The characters introduced were for the most part uninteresting (tho with potential to grow), there wasnt much exposition, the monologue at the beginning did not invoke any emotion and the mc reminds me of Katsuhira from Kiznaiver (plz dont be like him i beg you...).

To each and every one of you who have said this is like Pacific Rim, you fail as anime fans. :D

Long before that live action movie, there was an actual anime that had the same concept: Shinkon Gattai Godannar!! (2003). The primary differences being that the main couple in that show was actually married (tho 30yo widower + 16yo boin-chan in that case,) the cast was mostly adults, monster design was far more organic, and the world was not yet a barren wasteland. Everything else from the cockpit design to robots having boobs is there. lol

Even knowing that, I still enjoyed this quite a bit. Action was good, was clear that the world setting is post-apocalyptic, and everyone is different enough to tell apart. I like the pairing of the "failed elite" with the "cursed pilot". It even actually made sense to me for once that Zero Two immediately emotionally latched on to Hiro. He showed no fear of her even with her obvious physical abnormalities, treated her as an individual+equal+[appreciated her horns XD] at their meeting (which seems unlikely for others to have ever done,) expressed personal interest in her by asking for her name, and willingly stepped up to pilot with her (which again, seems extremely unlikely to be the norm for her.) That already positions him as a unique existence in her life, so the attraction makes sense. Tack on the feeling of lonely kindred spirits, and I don't see why anyone has any issues with the romance. Hiro has good taste at least! Oni girls are hot. XD

Wondering if Hiro is going to give Zero Two a real name at some point, since Naomi said he gave her hers. Even if they only used it in private time, there's a lot of power to naming and would be a good way to seal their bond.

The only valid comparisons so far between Hiro and Shinji are their general appearance as Japanese and that they both pilot giant robots. Simply being depressed at the moment of failure does not equate to being emo. Hiro would be a horrible, unsympathetic MC if he was not obviously distraught over his failure causing his longtime friend/partner Naomi to be exiled, especially since he was given a pass on the matter. Hiro even stepped up and attempted to claim punishment in order to accept responsibility.

Pervy old men have existed as far back in human history as men have grown old. It's not an anime trope, it's traditional human nature. >_> It's not a good thing, but since Nana didn't squeal with delight at being sexually harassed, it's not really a horrible thing.

Was a bit lost with the jargon so far, so hoping they get explained sooner rather than later. Why the heck are the pilots saving the world called "Parasites" for instance? That word has rather negative connotations to it. :/

The Hiro and Zero Two thing is being pushed so hard, even though the characters haven't been developed at all yet. The bait is so obvious. Plus it makes me salty that no "justification" or buildup is necessary for a hetero pairing, meanwhile queer pairings are subject to disproportionately more scrutiny. Of course this is not unique to this show or anime; this is just a reminder. I heard that this episode was going to be questioning an enforced heteronormative society (which is baked into the premise), but it looks like it's also celebrating it.

Also, what is this script. The incessant narration, the repetition... I'm also not a fan of most of the design. The uniforms don't look as bad as I expected but they're still pretty terrible. The characters are not very interesting in general, either.

There's a lot of sakuga and the background music is nice, too, and that's about all I can take away from this episode. I have no beef with anyone who liked this episode, but I wanted to say my piece on it. It's fine, and there are some much much worse titles in the season, but I'm probably not going to watch this past next week.

---

Edit: I've already apologized later for some of the parts in this post, but I'll do it here again. I'm not deleting the post, but I stroke out the things I took back later.

Those who criticize heteronormativity argue that people should have a choice in, for example, who they want to do "it" with. So they're definitely not trying to tell men and women to stop making babies, as that would be contradictory, and either way, we all know that is necessary for the human race to keep going. This is about personal freedom and ending discrimination and other injustices.

I'd like to ask you to read at least the foreword of this Wikipedia article (but I'd also encourage you to read further if you have the time and energy, because this topic is a lot more complicated than most people think, and I couldn't possibly do it justice here).

The main character sounds like he is mid transition.
Animation is amazing
High waifubility on the main female
Mediocre story, nothing that has not been done before, a loss in the genre because it actually weaved out a boring plot for the first 12 minutes for no reason.

This has all the ingredients of an overrated franchise.
