Wow, a lot of promise in that one episode. Everyone's gushing about the OP, which was gorgeous, but did they forget about two other things?

  1. The ED, daring as F
  2. Mary breaking the 4th wall. Not many people noticed that. That little in-joke is enough to bolster the promise shown and that the creators are having a little fun with the characters. This proves that the creators behind this, Studio Mappa, are giving this adaptation a lot of heart and soul into it. Pity, that the people IN the anime barely do (THEY ARE GAMBLERS, what did you expect?)

I do, however, look forward to the next episode.

Fun fact: I only heard about this adaptation only after I have caught up with the manga. Talk about shock value.
I didn't notice that second one til' now. That's nice. And... Is that an Advance Wars avatar I see there? OMG, much respect to you. I miss that series so much. <3

.... that is all I really wanted to comment about. The Advance Wars thing. lol I wanted to PM you the comment since it's off-topic here, but I was not allowed to send you PMs, so yeah.

The animation is.....eh, but it does have style. I still like the manga much more.

The voices are fitting, although a bit different than I imagined.

The OP and ED are fun as well.

That was without a doubt quite an interesting start so far, especially a nice way to start the season, since this is my first Summer show.

I'm liking it so far. Those faces are sure something though, lmao. VAs are doing a nice job as well, especially Saori. That switch to one insane girl was great, lol.

So pretty much it's Kaiji, but without the things that made Kaiji unique.

MC is a limp dick doormat. Generic character designs that makes it look like every other anime. To be fair they do have slightly more detail than the typical blobs that pass for character models nowadays. Set in highschool... because of every anime needs to be set in highschool, gotta confirm that those girls are indeed underage and of course the "main character" who is actually just a projection of the emasculated yet horny viewer base takes a back seat to kawai animu grilz... with really creepy facial expressions.

Sounds like a pretty good time. Also the music isn't bad.

This. Despite the fact that both shows revolves around gambling, Kakegurui executes it's premise in a generic way. Plus: There are no ZAWA ZAWA.

Pretty decent start, the episode felt so quick, probably with how much intense it was. Though you could tell the animation was lacking in a few scenes but otherwise.

Quite an underwhelming trick for the first episode but Jabami's idiosyncratic views amazed me well.

And a very colorful OP, watching it twice per episode is worth it I think. XD

Well, this was umm... kinda.... interesting, I guess.

I definitely like the style and the animation of this show. Facial expressions of characters are really interesting to watch and they add some sort of intensity to the scenes. The gambling looks pretty intense too, I like it.

OP wasn't my cup of tea in terms of a song but the visuals are f*cking amazing and really trippy. Overall, I am interesting so far, and definitely can see where the hype comes from. I hope that this will continue to be a good show. Good start.

I have mixed feelings. The art style is creepy and makes me uneasy lol. It was a somewhat interesting episode but I feel like this would work better if it wasn't set in high school (seriously, why does everything have to be during that period?). Also I don't understand the compulsion to write whiny male characters who are dominated by abusive women. This is neither funny nor cute, but I imagine for some reason folks project themselves on the MC. Like I said, I find this abusive and it is a bit sad how it gets brushed off just because it's from a girl to a boy and not the other way around. It's all very Kangoku Gakuen-esque. Naturally, I was happy to see the blondie get humiliated after her conceited attitude.

Tbh, the thing that bothers me the most must be how seriously the show takes itself for what it is. I said this before but this really doesn't go hand in hand with high school students. As a result, to me the whole thing seems kind of ridiculous. I guess I'll sit around for a few couple of eps before deciding what to do.

I REALLY don't understand comments like this. Just because a main male character is being dominated by a female doesn't mean that it only happens to him or males in general. As you would have seen if you looked a bit close, Saotome has both male AND female slaves, or house pets, and all of them showed great fear, hesitation, or weak wills when called out by Yumeko. One of them happens to be a main character and is male. That's it. Not to mention that if you looked at the OP, you'll see a male that is at a high rank or sitting as well. Pretty much looks like the one dominating as well.

I swear that people cannot win when it comes to doing this sort of thing in their works. Whether it's showing this or if it does it the other way around (that being male dominating a weak-willed main female. Hell, I'm pretty sure it'd be called out as very bad a LOT more), no one wins. :/

Does it really matter? This is reprehensible regardless of the abuser's sex. I didn't notice that there were female slaves too as you pointed out but I was talking about the MC because well, he is the MC and that's where the show drew attention to. I just said that there's a pattern since I have noticed this specific tendency in other series too. This is simply a personal observation which hinders my enjoyment, I am definitely not intent on calling this 'problematic' or spoiling the fun for you guys who might have enjoyed this more than me. And from what I've seen the show is not meant to depict this in a positive light as they had done in Prison School, because the blonde girl got what she deserved in the end for her awful behavior.

Yumeko's the MC, and the show draws all the attention to her. If it wasn't obvious in this episode, it's gonna be more and more obvious going forward. I promise.

And don't compare this to Prison School. This is a gambling show, every episode is gonna be a game with one of the members of the student council, and the one challenging them is Yumeko. All the focus is on this without fail. Suzui is just a supporting character.

Well yeah, but it looked like you made it sound like the sort of thing mattered since you brought it up in the first place as a sort of flaw or complaint or something, so I focused on it is all. Besides the clear intent from the writing showing that this sort of thing is bad in general and that he needs to get out of it, if it hinders your enjoyment that much, then you shouldn't have went in the series in the first place. I suppose you didn't know beforehand, but there were PVs released before this showing what he was going through.

And it also seemed like you made it sound like you had more of a problem when it came to the males being treated the way, what with how specific you've made your post. Yes, he's a major character and thus gets the largest attention, but that still doesn't remove the fact that there are numerous females being treated the same or similarly as well by the system, so I'm not really one to complain about it just because one of the victims is a weak-willed major or main male character. Yeah, there's a pattern that other works and series did the sort of thing (female dominating or abusing weak-willed major or main male), but many other anime series also did it the other way around too. Off the top of my head, I can name a couple that had a man or men dominating or abusing weak-willed major or main female characters: Gangsta and Higurashi. It's a common theme or trait in general.

Oh that's good to know! Yumeko seems pretty interesting and mysterious. I just compared one aspect, I didn't mean to imply that these shows are generally similar. You appear to have read the manga so you must know better than me.

The animation was great. Am happy they could get the art-style right, thought the manga still feels like it has a better finish.
The only problems I have are Jabami's hair was too solid and the needless fan-service in the ED. But through and through loved it and am super happy that the manga got an anime adaptation!!

The facial expressions in the manga are a little more subtle than in the anime. Specially Yumeko. Her face doesn't really get as distorted as in the anime. She looks turned on, but in a cuter way somehow.

They nailed the feeling of gambling down PERFECTLY. Being someone who has gambled in Public and Private places there is seriously no better feeling then a crazy bet. They freaking nailed it. The animation was flawless, and Saori...my god Saori was beyond flawless, she was PERFECT!

The MC is kind of trash but hopefully he gets better. My god though what a great first episode.
