| THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE. ---------------------------------------- Well, animation definitely improved thanks to ufotable working on this Touken project. This imo also took on a more serious approach at the franchise compared to the other series; not to mention, there's actual more violence and even some blood. The world setting is what I had expected. For some reason, I find Kunihiro to be more likeable already. Kanesada is badass and he should be with since that's the type of guy he is. I think it's a decent start. Wasn't a big fan of the Touken franchise but I'm impressed by the ufotable version so far. Oh and I think soundtrack improved too. |

| My stream quality was horrendous so I can't say much about this yet... Seemed like a decent first episode, where they explained the premise to the viewer and got to show off the main cast. I can't wait to see Yagen kick ass ~.~ It was a bit weird to see the Saniwa in action. And I'm not the biggest fan of seeing Konnosuke here either, but apparently he's super popular in Japan so I guess they just had to add him. I hope they take the back seat in the story and let only the swords be in the spotlight. They're the main attraction after all. Visuals looked nice (at least when the stream wasn't being a bitch), and the fight scenes were good. The OP song wasn't what I expected, but it'll probably grow on me in time. Overall a nice first ep. |

| That opening though I had to stop myself after listening to it about five times or I would have kept going all day. Pretty good start now hopefully it doesn't meet the same fate as Tales of Zestiria. |

| As someone who is a big fan of the game, I already have knowledge of how the story goes but I can see how it'd be confusing to people who are new to this. Saying that, with it being the first episode I'm sure it's for suspense and mystery purposes and they'll get better at explaining things as the story progresses. Visuals and sound were great. I was surprised to see Jiji in the OP because I don't think I remember hearing much about him being in this. Looking forward to the next episode and getting to see someone of my favourite characters in action. (Also the Saniwa is super cute) |

| I liked the episode but there were some bits that bothered me. For one, Horikawas characterization. He seemed pretty generic and annoying and veering away from himself in game that seemed more like he knew what he was doing. I don't like how Kanesan was the one that has to keep him in check when its usually the other way around. Second, I couldn't tell who the main was. Ufotable established NMutsunokami and Kanesan as the protags and yet most of the episode was unfortunately focused on Horikawa with mutsunokami not appearing until near the end so I found that rather confusing. Third, the episode was what I call UFOTABLE SLOW at times where they spend time lingering on a scene so as to save animation money I assume. I don't like that because the show could potentially become boring if they drag it on for too long. However for now, the show kept me on my toes with enough action sequences. Lastly, I don't like the vocals in the OP. they weren't awful but I feel like for Soma Saitous first song, it could have been better. I'll probably get used to it the moire I listen to it though. ALKSO HORIKAWAS FORCED insecurities he straight up asks kanesan why saniwa partnered them up when historically izuminokami was made to be a companion sword to him so that was a pretty stupid question. I hope ufotable doesn't continue with this shitty characterization if him because so far everyone else seems okay. Those things aside though, good episode. I rally fell in love with Konnosuke and I think he'll be a good distraction for me until mikazuki and tsurumaru show up. I wonder if they'll change the opening when Mikazuki and the other swords show up ( Aniplex already spoiled the silhouetted characters so whoever watched the latest characters know who they are. ) I'm really excited to see mikazuki..! Him being in the opening wasn't enough for me. I frankly don't have high expectations for this anime due to ufotables habitual bad writing but it was a good start and MILES better than Hanamarus first episode. |

It was Touken Ranbu Provisional after all meaning it was in progress and they were likely collecting their bearings and deciding on how they wanted the anime to be. poster boy Mikazuki being the placeholder made sense. But likewise I'm glad he'll play a part in the anime and I can't wait until he appears. |

Kanesans characterization was a bit off as well, but less noticable since Kanesan is canonly a " cool and strong " guy but in reality hes not as cool as he thinks he is and thats the beauty of the character. In Katsugeki ( in the first episode at least ) they make him undoubtably cool which kinda bugged me. he's too cool and responsible and completely, as the fandom would say, not bullyable. Him being bullyable because of his personality is what made his character fun. i dunno, ufotables already taking liberties with the characters and its kinda.. eh? I guess its easier and more natural for ufotable to write the characters this way but the conflict they presented was unoriginal and uncharacteristic - especially in horikawas case. i hope they improve on that aspect of it in the future episodes. ( edit ) JUST REALIZED that you likely meant me when you said " the guy above on horikawas characterization " my bad lol |

| Ufotable never disappoints with visuals and animation thats for sure. The OST is from the same guy who did UBW 14, that's good. And the plot is fine, can't really say much now. Ehh, I wanted to hear Kalafina ED. :-( |

Hmm.. not sure how to feel about it at this point. i think making saniwa a shota was the safest way to go. making saniwa female would have pissed off a good number of touken ranbu fujoshi and caused problems. making saniwa a guy would have pissed off the fans who wanted a female saniwa. making him an androgynous shota is kinda like an odd middle ground for ufotable to avoid most conflict and the fans seem to be happy with it ( mostly because they think its new and funny. ) i feel like ufotable was taking the easy way out with this one. none of us were expecting it. |

| Saw the score at 7.93 already and I thought It would be bad, but that wasn't the case. I enjoyed this ALOT! The animation, do I need to say more? I only gave this a chance because of Ufotable! The story is intresting and the characters look alright despite being a bit generic. The soundtrack was dope and the opening was lit! This made me feel like Ufotable would be able to make a Rurouni Kenshin remake and pull it off! Also the fighting was alot like the game Nioh I'm playing right now. Overall a strong start that has made me excited for next week |

| Apart from UFO's stunning visuals as usual, this was a pretty nice start to the show Interesting premise with potential, decent introduction to the main characters with an explanation behind their actions, great action scenes and teases that leave you wanting to see more...The OST and OP was pretty good too Definitely gonna stick with this one in the long run |
| The first scene the army are in hurry when Kane-san killed them they saw a box treasure and a lot of sands are there.dont give me a koban in katsugeki.. konnosuke using a technologies😕 Im surprised to see the other sword appeared when Saniwa summoned them and I am pretty surprised to see Tonbokiri in night. Sakura appearance it means they are in sakura fubuki lol. Why Tsuru and Jiji appeared only in the ending im waiting for those two😥😥. I hate if any toudans will die😭! I like how Saniwa appeared in the sky😍😍 i love you ufotable the animations and opening is so good Saito Somaaaa!! hope the animation of ending is good too.good luck swords the ending is kalafina😭😭 |

| This is your standard ufotable production. All style no substance. Probably going to end up like Tales, pander to the worst fanbase and have a messy script. Will watch more but first episode doesnt warrant any excitement. |
