People keep mentioning season 3 here but to my knowledge the only episodes after season 2 are the OVAs or am I missing something?

Season 1 > Second Barrage in my opinion, I disliked the Japan Arc, it was too serious and had almost no humor, I understand some people prefer it that way, but I don't really watch Black Lagoon for a serious story so.... (Twins Arc was pretty awesome though)
I'm hoping Roberta's Blood Trail is better, the anime gets a 7/10 for now.

Hanging out with Lagoon and Balalaika is good for Rock. He's still too naive.

Actually i don`t think they meant it that way , more like they were trying to show Revy`s shame of having certain feelings for Rock , which for Revy is pretty embarrassing , even worse than sleeping with him.

and I agree with this one.

its quite possible something did happen, that they did it

1) from the beginning of this EP it seems that Balalaika has the hots for Rock as well new, she seemed like she wanted to kiss him, & hes face & eye's when her face was only centimeter away from Rock's face say's it all, i even think she was turned on

2) Balalaika gave Rock the gun & he gave it back & then she trows it out & new it has Rock's fingerprints on it & its there so cops can find it, she has some plans for him, i mean she is plotting something & it mite not be good, we all know she is bit insane yet smart

Both seasons were good but I feel I like the first season more. The first was more entertaining too me and the Japan arc in Second Barrage felt like it dragged on, last episode was the best part followed by the bowling ally rescue. I'll give this an 8.

I can't belive how much better the second Barrage was. And I'm so happy Balalaika survived and got what she wanted. She is so fucking awesome.

easily an 8 out of 10.

...did Balalaika try to kiss Rock?

Honestly, I can't say I liked this season as much as the first one. It was just too serious for me. However, the first arc with the twins was easily the best. The last arc went on too long, and I wasn't that interested in it.

Personally I think this is the best arc this season because it left quite deep impact for me. It's nice to see some character development on Rock, and Revy. What would you expect from an average salary man to adapt so quickly on underground world? I think Rock is quite tough that he is able to maintain his sanity until now. And now the resolution is quite obvious.

Anyway, Revy can be cute at times too, should I assume that she's tsundere? X)

Personally, I felt like this series was a grindhouse film, stretched several hours too long. Not only was there no character development, there was no plot as well. Which is you're going to do episodic, at least do it right. There should at least be some underlying plot that ties everything together in the end--which this series didn't do.

Meh. The whole thing with Yukio basically driving to her and Ginji's death seemed outright stupid and anticlimactic. I guess Rock hit it spot on about her actually always desiring to be a denizen of "the night" with Ginji.

Revy was hilarious though, "Now he's being kidnapped by a high school girl!" Lol, alluding to the last arc of season 1 was pretty clever.

Balalaika is ruthless. So she wiped the Kousa clan as well just because Rock asked for it? Hoho, she sure likes to toy with him. And she's kinda hot in her weird way.

Definitely liked this season over the first and the English dub was fantastic. Everyone in the Black Lagoon company sounds better, especially Dutch and Revy. Revy's seiyuu just wasn't able to portray the rude and brash behaviour of the character and Dutch was just plain better in English.

Guess next up is the OVA about Roberta again? Meh, I really wanted to know more about Eda since the reveal that she's ex-CIA.

This season fucking sucked compared to season 1

Yukio was a cunt, the twins were dull (I get it, they're messed up; no need to keep shoving it down my throat), and there was so LITTLE ACTION and so much dialogue between characters I hate. The Black Lagoon crew is infinitely more interesting than all the shit characters who get more screen time than what they're worth.

Edit: Also, Rock is still useless. If he doesn't get development in s3 I'm fucking done

I still enjoyed it, but yeah, this did kind of let me down after that great first season. I hope season 3 (is it actually a season 3?) is better, but based off the plot synopsis, I don't think I'll get much in the way of a continuing story with the main characters from the first two seasons.

I was a little skeptical at the start of the season, but it pulled through.
As enjoyable as the first season.
Bit of a dark ending for Ginji and Yukio, glad Revy didnt end up dying though.

Loved the last bit though, "Well did you get some? - I don't wanna say" ... Revy you silly girl!

10/10, like the first season.

I think Rock wanted/needed to see Yukio die. To further cement leaving his past life behind. Yukio mentioned that Rock didn't want to actually save her, that he saw his past life in her.

First and 2nd season both get an 8.3/10 from me.
Didn't expect realism from this show so that didn't drag it down. 2nd season had more character development so I liked that more. There needs to be more Rock x Revy moments!!

Honestly I would love to see an arc where balalaika got pushed to her edge, instead of her being so dominating, powerful and always in command.

Now on to the OVA.

Still no news of sequel aside from the OVA?
But it's important to remember that a movie review is subjective;it only gives you one person's opinion.

Not enough manga material and I don't think the author even cares anymore.
It was on hiatus for about 4 years then came back for some chapters, now it's on a near 2 year hiatus again.

Man I kept switching between sub and dub. The sub version has cringe English talking while the dub has no subtitles for some Japanese speaking when he is interpreting.
Kinda annoying. This series took longer then it should have.
The MC and Revy has some character development but not much. Too bad I prefer Dutch and Benny which they didn't have a lot of screen time.
Good mindless action.

Wow, can't believe I've never commented on this one!

Anyhoo, loved the 2nd season, even if I found myself bored whenever the scenes were focused on Yukio. The scenes with Rock and Revy, though, more than made up for it.

I absolutely loved how red Revy was when Rock caught her playing with the kids, and I liked seeing how Revy is slowly but surely caring more and more for Rock. She was just about downright panicked when Balalaika was toying with Rock.

And of course the, "now he's been kidnapped by a high school girl too?!" was great too.

My only major gripe is similar to what I had with the Revy vs Roberta fight. Once again Revy, an established sharpshooter, suddenly forgets how to aim, but this time there's no concussion to even try to blame for that.

There's zero, z-e-r-o, reason that Ginji shouldn't have been gunned down before he could even get close to her, let alone supposedly been in position to beat her. Revy fired approximately 30 times, and Ginji cut or deflected 3 bullets, so Revy somehow failed to hit a melee target around 27, TWENTY SEVEN, times. And no, I'm not counting that scratch as a hit :/

As ridiculously stupid as that last fight was, I loved Black Lagoon the 2nd Barrage enough to give it a 10. The Rock and Revy scenes were more than enough to counter balance the boring Yukio scenes, or the absurd last fight.

For me, this show got over at 6 episodes of the second season. I couldn't care about the last arc. No Dutch, soft Revy, mafia with sad cute girl head, bad engrish baah.

Sadly, it felt the same for me. I kinda liked the main theme of the arc, the choice that Rock had to make, even if I still don't get WHY would he have to leave everything he believed in behind in order to live in Roanapura, why did he have to chosse between Roanapura's moral and the one he had before leaving Japan...I don't know, I can understand that he would have to become less soft and naive around Roanapura's criminals, but the overall choice thing seems to be too manichaen to me. I'll try to read some thoughts about it, because I admit that I wasn't really into this arc, so I might have missed some things. I really didn't enjoy this arc, and was hoping for it to end asap...What a disappointment it was to see that it went on until the very end. I don't say that it was bad, it was good, had really good fight scenes, character development (Rock and Revy), interesting backstory about Balalaika, but the whole thing about Yakuzas clans and the war against Hotel Moscou didn't make it for me, plus Yukio felt very dull (and I also really wanted to have some Backstory/development abouth Benny and Dutch).
So, while the Thread Opener is saying that the show is a 9/12 for him because of the first episodes, for me it's a 6/12 because of the last arc... I was also really annoyed by the lack of "realism"/logic in the first episodes (2 kids waving machine guns and killing dozen of armed criminals without any struggle), but the story of the 2 children and everything around them was the peak of the show for me, especially the 3rd episode, which is probably the anime episode that affected me the most.

WARNING SPOILERS

So, I've just finished Black lagoon and it was an a breath of fresh air, I enjoyed it very much. It's a shame that it is only 24 episodes, I would love to know more about Hotel Moscow and Balalaika, such an interesting character. And the dub was amazing, specially love Revy and Dutch's ones, On the other hand, we never get to know more about Revy's past, although they give us some hints, but not further development. Or, for example, Ada working as a CIA agent. It feels like a lot of sidestory is missing.

One of the best action series you are ablo to watch.
It has an attracting feeling, thinking about what is going to happen on the next chapter.

It makes clear that Balalaika and the rest of Ruannapur are just looking for business in the end.

One of the only cons is that it leaves a lot of stories unfinished or just partially explained, such as Balalaika in Afganistan, the story of Rock and his family or Revy´s past.

I hope they are able to tell us all of this stories on a future in a new series or an OVA

If I didn't know there was another season, I'd be pretty disappointed at this ending- not that it was bad, I mean it was a great end to a great arc...it just didn't feel like a finale. It felt more like the penultimate episode instead.

I feel like people always complain about Rock because he hasn't picked up a gun or shot at anyone yet, but now I think that's the only thing separating him and everyone else in Roanapur. He's really not all that different than them anymore.

I enjoyed this season way more than the first, and unlike most people I actually welcome the change in Revy...being an insane badass with no progress gets old after a while. Especially when most of the cast is the exact same way.

I didn't quite understand Rock's and Yukio's conversation during the fight. In the end, who was actually right? What part of what Yukio said caused Gin to hesitate? I don't get it, so she was just pretending that the Yakuza life was what she wanted, when really she couldn't admit to herself that it wasn't by free choice?

^ This.

The show clearly set up parallels between Yukio and Rock, and also Gin and Revy, with the way the characters were framed in a few shots when you first meet them. Also, Yukio and Rock flirt with and respect each other (at least at first), same with Gin and Revy (at least Revy flirts, haha idk about Gin). So, in part, I agree with LordofCinder that maybe it was a bit too dualistic, but I feel like Soda's point and the fact that Rock says he thought he came back to remember but he really came back to forget kind of earns it, because both of those moments are great examples of character development done right. Even if it was very black-and-white, that's what the writers went for and I think they stuck the landing

On another common topic, I can understand why people complained about realism in this second season specifically. Sure, it's an anime, but there's a rule with any story telling that the first parts of the story teach the reader/viewer how to read/view the story. The early episodes of the first season did feel like they were going for a certain level of realism, maybe just stretching a bit to allow room for Revy's badassery. For example, even when the torpedo-boat uses the sunken ship to ramp up and take out the chopper (more than a bit absurd), the writers and animators went through lengths of justify that happening. So I can understand some people rolling their eyes when near-invincible maids and vampire children became part of the mix. While I personally wasn't bothered by it too much, it is a legitimate complaint to have in this series, whereas the same complaint would be totally pointless in, say, Gurren Laggan or something
