I just hope that this is not another project that many people liked in the west, but went unnoticed in Japan. |

| What's most surprising to me is that Kabaneri actually sold more than SnK S2. I mean, it was pretty much a knock off made to benefit off the popularity of SNK at the time and now it ended up selling more than the actual series lol. Anyway, s3 has been greenlit so this doesn't mean much now anyway (well, besides the fact that S3 might have a tighter budget I guess). |

| Selling the Shingeki season two BDs at 20k yen for six episodes is roughly equivalent to selling the season one BDs at 6.3k yen for two episodes, so selling over 6.8 times fewer BDs is potentially a really big problem since the head of the production committee is Pony Canyon. Also, not to doom and gloom since I'm not saying it's likely, but sequels can be cancelled. Everyone saying "good thing season three is already announced" is ignoring that. |
| Hope we get that Starmyu 3rd season. Only 331 copies difference in first week sales from S1 Vol.1. It's somewhat expected that Re:CRE wouldn't move copies imo... it's an ongoing, original anime and we can't tell if it's good until it ends; it could go downhill anytime. If it lives up to expectations it will probably collect a decent number of sales over time. |

| Despite how big digital is today as supposed as it was 4 years ago, SnK S2 selling only ~11% of what the first season did is a disappointment no matter how you look at it. Considering the marketing cost of the series, 5k sales is strictly decent. Even though digital is big and everything, it doesn't prevent other series to pass the 10k or 20k threshold. Yuri on Ice can do 67k even it a digital generation. Honestly, SnK S2 should be 20k, but it was expected that it will have a bigger drop. I was expecting 10-12k at least tbh. But we can at least guarantee that SnK would've sold more if it had released it in 2-3 episode volumes like the last season, as supposed to 6 episodes for ¥19800. SnK's first season had a total BD/DVD revenue of ¥3,152,400,000, while SnK S2 has sold around ¥130,739,400 so far. If it trends like this SnK S2 Vol 1 and 2 will have a total sale of approximately ¥300,000,000, which less than 10% of what the first season. No matter how you look at this, the home media distributors will be left underwhelmed. This being said, the anime itself isn't a flop, and as a franchise itself, SnK is one of the most popular. |

I don't understand the "selling 6 episodes bundles, sells less than 2-3 episodes ones", that is totally not true. We have stuff like Fate Stay Night and Fate Stay Zero and they still get the people. Also One Piece with the log collection(around 50 episodes each), that are also the reselling(that is what makes less people buy, not the format of the first sale edition), and it gets a lot of people to buy it. The fact is that getting just 2 volumes instead of 6 in fact brings a lot more in average sales, given that there is less of a loss of buyers as new volume comes, given the fact that there is less new volumes. Though the problem with this is the coverage of the series is also less in time. Probably they decided to go with the 6 episodes due to knowing how badly the series lost its fans and they are trying to lose the least people as possible. |

Here are some random picks of renowned anime from different genre suffering from second-season-syndrome i.e. drop in sales compared to season 1: Hibike! Eupohonium had a 15% drop, which is insignificant compared to how other new anime suffered in the recent past. |

| Next week we will know for sure, but I think the blu-ray buying crowd went for Eromanga Sensei this season. Not enough love to go around for all these releases... the only thing I dont like about the future of streaming revenue overtaking discs to the point they are irrelevant is that such a small amount of people have such a big say to the studios producing these anime. These disc sales, due to the pricing, is a great way for the most hardcore fans to speak directly to the studios and say hey you have a fanbase and we want more. Glad to see Hibike doing so well, I wanted to get the volumes but I ended up coping out. Glad to see my slack was picked up. Super eager to see where Eromanga Sensei sales are. Unlike Yuri on Ice and Love Live, there is no super awesome pack in event that drive sales up to retarded levels. Essentially, like Hibike, we will see people buying the show for the sake of buying the show rather then not really knowing how well it would have done without pack in concert seat raffles and shit. |
