| I am sure many of you have met them. What do you think of those guys? I think that having high IQ is pretty much useless if you are not going to utilize it. If you're just gonna be lazy all day long and score poorly in academics then it doesn't matter whether you have a high or low IQ. I mean, there are many people who have high IQ of 135-140, but not all of them become millionaires, scientists, etc. As for me, I never had an IQ test so I don't know what's my IQ Anyway, if you are born with an average IQ and you work very hard then you could possibly beat a person having an IQ of 160-170. Therefore, according to me Hard work > IQ (Natural Talent) As for people who brag about their high IQ, I guess they just want people to acknowledge them. No offense btw |

| I.Q is just a measure of certain type of brain faction that mostly correlates with mathematical type of thinking. Not an overall measure of intelligence. You can have an I.Q of 200 and lack any common sense. Sure you can write the nuclear equation for a missile but you can't get the plot of a movie for example or you don't understands simple logic. There are people like that and i will never call them smart. They are specialized but not smart in general. |

| I've rather arbitrarily divided people into "rationals" and "intuitive types" based on the MBTI thing.. and naturally high IQ types would fall into high rational category.. | I think they're people who don't have much else to brag about. If they were true hard workers or had spent their time on something, they could at least brag about their hobby, or a cool relative, or that they can do a cartwheel. Also, since IQs are measured in numbers, it's very easy to say "I'm better than you because my IQ is higher." You can't exactly measure who has the coolest uncle. |

| Ehhh... I think a better way would be " People who brag that he/she is intelligent" would be better. IQ are just something in the gray area, and if the dude said that he got "X in an online IQ test", I'd just ignore it. Not worth my time. |

| They are usually underachievers. If your I.Q is so high, then why are you making so little money or rather why is your current position at the company you work for so piddly? Thing I noticed from successful people is that they do rather than talk. You never hear people who are on the higher echelon of intelligence talk about archaic shit like I.Q tests. You want to succeed, then show me through your ingenuity, ideas and drive to reach a new strata of achievement in an area of your life. |

It really isn't possible to accurately classify people in that manner. There is absolutely no data to support the validity of MBTI, or really any other personality test for that matter. |

| Bragging about IQ is an attempt to protect a fragile ego. IQ tests were invalidated a while ago, due to their failure to really measure anything concrete. I can't speak for any individuals here, but I believe the act of bragging about one's IQ is a sign of low self esteem. |

| Actually in my current work, there are like half of them that brag their competency in coding and mathlab skills lol. Even the new hires are no different when comparing their ATARs XD However, from what I noticed, people who perform really well in work are the ones with average IQ. While the people that had higher GPA tend to slack off and feel too superior. (some even don't want to talk with someone that they think inferior) Kinda sucks tbh... I feel IQ and EQ shouldn't really depart to one another. We don't even know how standard these tests are. |

| I don't take statements like that seriously. I don't think IQ means much in the long run, it's just an estimation more than anything. There are many different ways to be intelligent, whether it's through academics or social smarts. |

| I've never heard someone brag about their high IQ who'd had an actual IQ test; they all just took some quiz online, which says a lot about their actual IQ. (Yes, I'm aware I have an online IQ test result on my profile, but I'm not bragging about it.) |

Also hard work may be more important than natural talent, but in the end hard work < same amount of hard work + natural talent Life is pretty unfair when you come to think of it... |

| But I think you can't even call someone smart or intelligent just because of IQ, it's just capacity of what your mind can do. Also, we shouldn't judge IQ only by correlating it with how successful the person is. that's really off tbh. swirlydragon said: Erg_Orgy said: Yep, that's quite true. The ones bragging about their IQ are usually the ones trying to overcompensate for their lack of actual achievements.
