Rural slice of life is the best kind. Encounters with wildlife (on a smaller scale, in this case) spice up the ongoings quite a bit. Shiori's cool demeanour regarding the handling of that incident was commendable.

The ex-actress seems intriguing too. Manju still are scary, though...

Overbought manju and aoi gets help from more girls but they fail miserably :(
They went about it right but not enough focus on the fact it's made in the town.

I have a thing for anime in rural settings, and I really like this thus far. I can feel that the MC will get a lot of development down the road.

I also like the more realistic approach to this in like how setting up tourism is a tough task etc. Looking forward to the rest.

As someone who grew up in a more rural/small town setting, I find the rural SOL shows to be enchanting bits of nostalgia, or maybe pseudo-nostalgia as I did not grow up in rural Japan.

This ep was pretty good. I liked it better than ep 1, which I also had fun watching, but I enjoyed the feel of this ep more.

It was humorous to see the quintet fail so miserably. I like how the more people added to the effort, the less boxes of manju they sold. Almost "Murphy's Law: The Anime." That which can go wrong, will go wrong.

As others have pointed out, at least there was not some cheap "everyone shows up and buys all the boxes" conclusion.

I'm guessing that Yoshino's decision to stay until the cherry blossoms appear has more to do with her new friends than anything else.

Pretty difficult trial to start with, was wondering what she would do to pull this off. Got all five of the main girls in to take part and it's only the second episode, but unfortunately, selling 1000 of those things was too much. I look forward to seeing what happens next.

Well i really did hype for this show, while it's quite disappointing but can't really judge the show yet. On top of that, i noticed some progress on this episode although it's not very significant. Anyway i'll try my patience with this one, pacing got a bit better and the ED is really nice.

Man, I just want to say that these girls are absolute love. Great character designs with each of them having distinct personalities. Sanae looking good in those glasses.
It's a shame they couldn't sell well, but it's undeniable Yoshino had much fun doing this with the girls than applying to jobs and getting rejected. I guess bit by bit she'll come to fully stay. ED is so great.

Decent episode, good expansion of cast, looking forward to more of occult girl. But all 5 girls are developing nicely, even "hometown girl". I laughed when she picked up the centipede with the chopsticks and dropped into a can. Having had that experience before, I both sympathize with the city girls and respect the chops of a true "country girl". Imagine if the had rats, she would trap them in a bag and off them with a shovel.
If it was a real centipede I don't think she would have had time to easily pick it up with chopsticks. When centipedes are in runner mode you have to much faster than what they showed in this anime. Where I live they grow into a six inches and higher and if you grab one haphazardly they will fling their body and break free. They are common enough if that if it rains there will be centipedes. The worst part about centipedes is when they surprise you out of the blue. You are done taking a shower and as you grab the towel and a giant centipede says "Hi, human" and comes to bite your ass. racking leaves a pain in the ass with slippers because there will be like 5 of them under a single small pack of leaves during a rainy season. Everyone should fear the centipede.

LOL, I am with you (wo)/man.

I come from a strictly non-centipede environment, my first (and fortunately only) experience with one was fairly similar to this episode. I didn't panic, but I didn't now what to immediately do, fortunately the person I was with did have the experience, and it was resolved and removed posthaste.

But yes "do fear the centipede, you may not catch if you try, do fear centipede, baby I'm not your guy".

50 points to the first person who knows which song I am parodying.

This is going to be a fun and kinda relaxing anime to watch. Really enjoying the new characters that are being introduced though. They make a nice balanced cast that's not super overwhelming.

The animation is beautiful as expected 10/10 for that.
I'm excited to see how this season goes.

-is there grass-fed organic chupacabra inside those manju or was it just a name
-in an unexpected turn of events the dorm manager is actually a squatter named Maki
-turns out the manju only had chupacabra prints on them
-wait just a goddamn minute weren't the boxes only supposed to have 10 manju inside them
-wouldn't it be kinda counterproductive to fire a saleswoman that can sell 1000 boxes of food in a week, or keep her for a year if she failed
-riri seems like a qt but what was up with her eyes in that one scene
-S U C C G O A T
-prospective web designer listening to the op while working
-she looks dead inside, her place looks like a dump, and it seems her blog is full of lies. that's actually the opposiite of what i was expecting her to be like
-top 10 anime battles
-why you gotta animate all these bugs pa works
-it just occurred to me that shiori never having seen maki before was because she never bothered to check the inside of the living quarters and not because maki was a squatter
-shiori just keeps on guilt-tripping yoshino
-wait did they even formally introduce sanae? yoshino just referred to her by name out of the blue halfway through the episode
-That little conversation between Yoshino and Sanae is probably charting out how the rest of the show will be, with Yoshino coming to terms with the reality of how idealistic her perception of Tokyo is
-L I M I T E D E D I T I O N
-which is kinda weird since kadota was talking about mass-producing the manju if they sold well
-tehurn.com/not
-yo this jazz track is pumpin
-that camera's fancy
-idk why but i like riri's voice
-alright the end of the promo video when they went all sellout was pretty nice
-Not really a fan of the visuals of the ED because having the heroines mouth the lines of the song struck me as super weird, but I would be lying if I said the song itself wasn't catchy.

So I looked over it again, and they did totally skip over a formal introduction of Sanae. They just kinda... started calling her by name out of the blue. Kinda weird since this episode was all about character introductions and they forgot to introduce one of the 5 who's classified as a main. Anyway, this episode was focused a ton on character introductions and developing a reason why Yoshino would inevitably choose to stay in Manoyama. Maki and Ririko seem pretty cool so far, but Sanae's a total slob (as well as a compulsive liar, it seems) and Shiori loves using guilt trips. It looks like Yoshino's gonna be receiving the bulk of the character development in this show, but I'm not really feeling her "not a normie" catchphrase because that's all she's been demonstrated to be. Aside from the character introductions, nothing stood out about the episode too much aside from the video and for that one conversation between Sanae and Yoshino about her expectations for Tokyo. I still love the backgrounds, though.

That ED song tho... holy mother fcking hell...
Message of the song is soothing and calm as hell with some sad effects.

Whenever a gentle breeze
Carries a feeling of loneliness...
Whenever I'm alone and uncertain...
Do you mind if I rely on you?

We change. We make mistakes.
But it's almost like I was given...
(A memory, from you...)
...something precious from you.
Thank you for giving me courage!
(Until the day I see you again...)

I became the reliable person
That I always imagined becoming.
Now I can always feel beside me
The encouragement and warmth
That I'd been taking for granted.
I can finally stand here and say, "I'm home"!

Another good episode, loved how they had Yoshino her first task as the queen right away, even if they didn't sell much and she lost her wager with Mr. Kadota, we got to see the characteristics of our five main characters in unison. The mood was conveyed across very well as I didn't think it was a chore to see Yoshino pushing herself to move out of this rural town, but she actually meant to succeed in her task wholeheartedly, this is the best slice of life show I've started so far this season.

Aoi awesome faces, esp when oldie feigned a headache.
Sanae & Maki both tired & bitter of life and left Tokyo. They share much in common but already are arguing.
Riri uma otaku quite bizarre, like a socially weird Yui.
Shiori looks gorgeous in the fantastic ED, while being a headphones ad.

This show's definitely starting to come together a bit more. Now that we've assembled the moe working girls squad. And since it took the time to acknowledge and explain how strange the Chupakabura stuff is. I still think it has a weak concept in comparison to Shirobako. But as it comes into its own I might not feel that way as strongly. It definitely seems like it has a well defined cast, with strong chemistry and interactions. And its premise is unique and I think could allow it to tell some pretty interesting stories. Hoping this one goes from pretty good to great.

Not a drama fan, I only watch this show for Koharu. Her overall design (face+clothes) is so kawaii. And normal. You don't see many normal young girls (without huge boobs / overly-curved hip) in anime nowadays. Well this is drama so one might say it should be expected, but like I said, I'm not a drama fan, haven't seen Shirobako either.

Overall episode's a bit boring & too normal, which may be a good or bad thing depending on what you're expecting on this kind of show.
I appreciate a bit of morale lessons here and there though. Like how a life in metropolis isn't all gold like most country/rural people expected. I think it's relevant even outside Japan. Except for the "mini-nation" tourism program of course.

Okay this show is the ONLY show with cute character designs that has convinced me that it might be good. It should get a trophy or something. Mind you, I hate everything cute and definitely everything from KyoAni.

But the tone and sense of humor in this series isn't actually cute. It teeters on the edge, especially because of the character designs, but there's a darker ingredient mixed in there that is essential for its overall balance. To start, the main character seems to be one of those pink haired big hearted clumsy shoujo protagonists, but instead she's shown to have a more selfish streak to her. The only character that really fits the moe bill is the brown haired girl. The other girls so far have adult proportions and act like adults.

The situation also lends to a bit of cynicism too because unlike other shows where the clumsy girl arrives in a new situation full of hopes and dreams, the protagonist is stuck in a backwater town and her attempts to sell the cookies are met with failure.

One telling exchange is the straightforward meanness of the interaction between the old man and the lady, a line that seems like it would come out of the Boondocks for its sheer frankness.

All in all, so far this show is an example of what is missing from cute girl shows and why I don't like cuteness in general--- an element of hardness to contrast with the softness. At least I hope because this would demonstrate that despite my heavy bias against cute girl anime I'm not close minded enough to not give them a chance.
