This episode was a little toned down I feel. There wasn't anything much going on until the end which I already kind of suspected the way the paint was spilled was quite unnatural.

Well, another month to the next episode I guess. Didn't feel like posting something since there wasn't anything much but decided to anyways.

So, the paint falling caused by culprit not earthquarke and kaname already died before that. So, who is the person that the man heard on phone?

and how the culprit know there'll be earthquarke?

It wasn't bad episode in terms of dialogues and visuals (Iria's undressing scene was great) but we learnt almost nothing new though. Maybe that one little fact that Akane and Kanami knew each other and that Kanami wasn't the one who painted the picture. Still, it seems that Akane can be real culprit afterall.

And now I really wonder what's the deal between Tomo and Boku and what happened between them in the past.

I got a bit mindfucked here, can't help but wait for the next episode, this anime's visuals doesn't cease to impress me, the new theory is a bit mindfucking... but about Akane and Kaname, I thought for a second that if they hated each other but they met for something, does that means that they know about someone that the both of them hates?

In the episode they said:

Earthquake > some paint falling > murder > murderer dropping even more paint over to cover his tracks.

Still not really impressed about this anime, the pacing is pretty slow, don't think it's that bad and was obv expected, i think it's more cause of the characters, don't find any of them that good or rather there wasn't much to mention, mb still to early, but then how much longer.

Not that I think his work isn't exciting or engaging. But I also don't think Nisioisin's works lend themselves to easy visual representation. There was at least one scene in this chapter/episode I was really curious to see how they'd pull of and make it exciting. I of course refer to Iichan and Sonoyama's lengthy discussion through a closed door. But Shaft as usual animated it gorgeously and very creatively. Part of me wishes we never saw Akane's face the entire time. Like in the book as stupid as that may sound. But I respect the dramatic final shot of her smirking in her cell. I also liked that the absences at the breakfast table were shown by teddy bears with the characters name on them. As well as a single physical characteristic.

The episode ended on a really strong note. With Kunagisa and Iichan finally explaining the locked room to Hikari. All the stuff with Kunagisa's computer is just really pretty and cool. These scenes of progressing the murder mystery also don't lend themselves to adaptation easily. But Shaft makes it look effortless. Also Hikari reenacting the murder with some effort was freaking adorable. And also not to get too hung up on something really small. But considering they set it up in the first episode. I'm glad the episode didn't get all weird about Iichan tying Kunagisa up and throwing her in the tub. Which was probably at least a little bit of a joke. Hopefully.

I found myself very interested by the ending of the episode. I've only ready the first novel which is all this OVA is adapting. So I could be mistaken. But I think the episode ending was kind of hinting at and even starting to tell us about Iichan and Kunagisa's past. Again could be remembering wrong but possibly with more information revealed than the first book did. If so that's an interesting choice that could hint at planned future installments.

Loyal adaptation for sure, but honestly, I'd prefer it if Shaft picks up the pace. What could've been done in 5 episodes is being dragged to be an 8 episode OVA series (and it's obviously because they want to sell more episodes for more money). Unfortunately with this pacing, the OVA series doesn't have the same intensity the light novel had. If the second volume gets an adaptation, I hope Shaft makes it more faster paced since the fast pacing would really make it more gripping. Great visuals in the episode though (as always).

Continues to be gripping and brilliant.

Really pacing complaints feel unfounded. Just like with ACCA, its nice to have works that actually respect the viewer's attention span and present information in proper manner instead of breezing through it. And with SHAFT visuals, cinematography and directing its a treat to watch every single minute of it. Like holy shit, Some of camerawork and cinematography in this show rivals even the best of Monogatari.

Either way this episode gave quite a bit of information on the locked room mystery and solution is pretty obvious as expected as the characters said anyone who read any kind of mystery story would have suspected the paint and thus realized how it was done. Alas in this situation solving the murder becomes HARDER from solving this mystery rather than easier because number of suspects increases.

At the same time this episode also continued exploring MC's relationship with Tomo and his personality and characterization.
The MC continues to be unsettling to watch and suspicious as hell tho. Its hard to tell when he is telling the truth or when he is just sugarcoating something. Alas everyone in the cast seems to have their own secrets and motives so its hard to trust anyone.

Did I heard it right tho did the MC sleep with Tomo before? Or did he try to rape her(considering his wording about intent of destruction not love and how he wondered if Akane would have despised him if she knew)? That would certainly explain why he keeps avoiding staying when she is asleep in pretty much every episode.

This episode was ok, that long convo scene was maybe the best this show has looked, but I'm still unsure if this show can be saved. Yase's direction is bland. The music and the visuals are underwhelming for me, even the dialogue is sometimes dull, which is surprising from a NisioisiN adaptation. If I were to rate it now it would be a 5 or 6. I'll still finish it and watch any future adaptation of the Zaregoto Series though, since I am interested in the people involved.

I had such high hopes for this series, maybe that's why I'm so disappointed.

I don't think it was rape. I think he did it with her but without love, because the only one in love in that relationship is her.
I think the destruction stuff is about her heart. Its like: "Im doing this to you but I don't love you".
I think he avoids sleeping with her because he doesn't want to do it with her again, he's afraid she'll ask him to do it. So that explains why she said: "I'm not gonna do anything, I promise".

Yase Yuki has some of the most exciting visuals and unhinged. If you want dull thats the Monogatari director (not Oishi).

Well it's not really that impressive but nonetheless I'm very glad that I was correct with the progression of events, and how the culprit used the paint to cover any prior footprints.

I thought this ep was very interesting. Shaft visuals were plentiful throughout but I feel there's a lot of stuff to be analyzed in the dialogue. I feel that this is one of those shows where after I finish the 8 episodes I'll want to rewatch it to find all the small clues in the characters' dialogue and the visuals.
I was a tad worried at the end, I was under the impression that Akane would be murdered as well, not sure if she was or not but it didn't seem like it.

I'm also intrigued by Ii and Tomo's past. We saw a brief tidbit of them a bit younger, but I couldn't get much without context.
That last bit with them sleeping together left me a bit conflicted. To me Ii seemed pretty ambiguous, something we're already accustomed to from his nature, but I had a hard time understanding if his 'if I had said' question was hypothetical or a reference to the truth that he did sleep with her already. I feel it can be taken either way, admittedly I originally took it at hypothetical face value, I'd assumed he was just asking what she would have said had he lied and said something along those lines. It was only after seeing comments here that I thought of the other possibility, and looking at it again now, it seems more and more like the right interpretation for it.

It is really intriguing though, I hope they get into that during this second half

Another enjoyable episode. Most interesting part was the revelation that Boku had already had sex with Tomo with the intention of destroying their relationship. Maybe to get Tomo to despise him for doing such a thing, but that didn't work.

Such a strange episode, that eight minute long tedious 'discussion' in the middle of the episode was so excrutiatingly hateable, as much as I dislike the word, so damn pretentious. Served not much more purpose than to satisfy peripheral desire of intellectual talk for the target audience. In other words, eight minutes of turd

Seems like while I would always like Shaft I would never like Nisio.

She taking off the pantsu.

WTF! Why'd she headbutt him.
Ii visiting Akane.
Dem Akane lips.
Head tilt.
Damn. Akane violated.
Akane so fine.
Damn. Tomo hair bright as fock.
Il sleeping with Tomo.
He slept with her before? Not love...but destruction?

God Shinbou is just such an amazing director imo. His ability to make light novels of people really just standing around and talking smart and still make it visually appealing and interesting is pretty incredible

Iria undressing in front of Boku like it's nothing
What a bold woman, I like her xD
She might be the culprit though.. maybe not
But she's obviously hiding something big

Akane & Kanami is related, maybe friends?
Isn't that means Akane is in danger?

I mean that was pretty obvious for me, though my question is..
What if the culprit accidentally steps on the paints that knocked out from the earthquake?
Also what's the plan if there's no earthquake?
Don't tell me earthquake is calculated :P

The part when Maki pushes Ii-chan using her was kind of fun, she also give him some warning. The over the door conversation was great, it makes you think about it. After they solve the door trick they got more suspects that it was at the first. I still can't read the Narrator's mind, I'm not like Maki, I just hope he stays like a gold boy doing good things.

Its kinda weird to hear a show outright address the idea of hair being naturally blue... Is it weird that that comes across to me as less grounded then a character (apparently) having literal psychic powers? I dont really have a problem with anime characters being drawn with unrealistically coloured hair but it feels weird for a character to actually acknowledge it.

This episode had better artistic direction than the previous few episodes by quite some margin, the dialogue bored me a little bit though this episode and nothing too major happened other than the amount of suspects increasing due to the nature of the paint on the floor, which was pretty obvious from the start. The first volume did have a ton of monologues and the way the show is being adapted, it sometimes takes out monologues/dialogue that I would like and sometimes keeps monologue/dialogue that I would prefer to be condensed. It's pretty weird. The show does spend a ton of time to respect the viewer into being able to solve the mystery along with Boku and the rest of them at least but due to the nature of the characters and how monotone their personalities are due to their genius statures, it comes across dull at times (I can say the same thing for the novel too).
