-Mahesvara said: Its going to be an original story written by the author. This. Based on my knowledge of the light novels, *I'd say there's a chance it might be something of a prequel that happens sometime between the battle of Okinawa in 2092 (for people who only watched the anime, there's a small flashback to it at the start of the first episode) and the entrance ceremony in 2095. Or it might take place during the largely eventless summer holiday chapter that follows right after the end of the first season. Those are just some educated guesses. I can't think of any other time period where you could really fit a completely seperate story without jumping too much into the future. Either way, it's up to the author so we'll just have to wait and see. *EDIT: Took another look at the promo picture after writing this, after that I think it's extremely unlikely that it'll be a prequel, considering it would eliminate most of the main cast of the show (that also appear in the promotional picture). |

Shame it doesn't continue the story though. The anime didn't show enough Tatsuya God-like power. At least show Tatsuya vs. Angelina |

http://www.anime-planet.com/anime/the-irregular-at-magic-high-school-movie Judging by this description, unless the description is just up in the air, it seems that this is going to be a sequel taking place after they finish year one, and start year 2 spring break. So, I'm not familiar with the LN/Manga, but is this a side story? or is it a standalone creation that is a separate story but also plot/main story relevant? |

I've read up to volume 11 of the LN although I'm not confident about my memory. All I can say is that it looks like an original plot (also based from the comments above and Kokoa was never introduced in the LN so far) and it may not be relevant to the main plot unless it gives us a hint regarding a 2nd season. |

well according to the listing on MAL for mknr this movie is listed as an sequel and have read up Volume 18 of the LN i'm guessing the two characters in the background are Mayumi's twin sisters. So my guess is that its i going to an adaptation for volume 19 or later... |

This is a sequel to the anime .. nothing to do with the Light Novel tho , its totally new original conntent meant for the movie only .. i thought the girl may be someone i read in volume 5 of the novel wich didnt get animated but i was wrong actually theres no Kokoa named character in the whole 20 volumes of Light Novels published until now .. still guess we get a higher chance for s2 wich will probably come considering this series smells like money so madhouse will most likely make another round .. but honestly i feel dissapointed with the movie being not from the Light novel . I would have prefered a adaption of volume 8 wich has all the flashbacks from the Okinawa incident or rather The Dahan Incident wich would explain to everyone about why the world knows and fears the name of the YOTSUBA . |

The story is about an incident happened during a vacation between the end of 1st year of high school and the beginning of 2nd year of it. It means that it's just after vol. 11 of the novel. Though the story was newly written, it was by the author of the novel series and probably it is hard for viewers to understand the story if they haven't read vol. 8-11, which haven't covered in TV animation, as the movie contains some scenes that relate to the episodes in those volumes. |

Looking at the trailer and description KolmeDG is right, but I'm confused on how they're going to do this. As I forget the timeline of the novels I am not 100% on this, but based on the timeline of the movie it will take place right after Lina leaves Japan and Shizuku returns. However, Lina is shown in the movie so are they going to try and do the previous arc really quick in the movie or just randomly have her be introduced and later do that arc in a season two or skip it all together? I really enjoyed the entirety of that arc because it explained a lot more of the world outside of Japan touching on the military forces of the other countries. I'll be interested in seeing how this plays out, but as I love this series I really hope it gets a full adaptation and this movie doesn't lead to them skipping the previous semester or so of content. As the author is writing it I doubt there should be any worry about this story not fitting in with the rest of the light novels. |

Nothing about Lina's background will be properly explained, judging from reviews by Japanese audiences... Perhaps someone here have already watched, but the following link is an officially released scene from the beginning of the movie, in which Lina shows up for the first time in the film. It shows that Lina receives a new mission just after she returned from Japan to USNA, and soon she will be off to Honolulu. After that, she will be on the mission during the movie. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=rGSoPkOv6rc I strongly hope there will be season2, too! |

Well I hope they go back and do her arc then with the second season still. There is a lot of cool background information in the novel along with some awesome fights. Would be a shame if they skipped it. Looks like I will have to give my non-novel reading friends some basic background on her depending on what the movie has... |

Maybe this info is needless, but to fully understand the story, I think knowing following subject may help... -Who Lina is and her relationship with main characters (no need to know what "Parasite" is) -What "chouseitai (調整体)" is (sorry, I don't know how the word is translated in English) and who are. -Who Honami is. |

Yea i kinda get that.(only read up to like Vol 3 of the LN, not like that matters in these adaptions anyways) I say that because the Anime and movie just jumps from the Fall to the Date of 3/31; not much reference to anything between those days if i recall, since the watermelon spitting scene or Miyuki's swimsuit was more important of course. |

Not much of a spoiler but, there is some reminiscence references with the siblings, like 2 frames with a female military soldier. I'd love to see more of the details about their world but that chance is long gone since Entrance Arc. Did you see it? I'd love some bullet points to help me understand Lina's sudden introduction in the film. Don't want to dissuade LN readers but, i have a feeling either things are getting skipped or story arcs may get reordered if(When) they make more Anime content |

Don't want to dissuade LN readers but, i have a feeling either things are getting skipped or story arcs may get reordered if(When) they make more Anime content Well here's a short summary of Lina and what she was involved with and how her relationship with Tatsuya developed: In the arc that took place before this, Lina was sent to Japan to investigate Tatsuya and Miyuki as potential suspects for the strategic-class magician responsible for the scorched Halloween incident as a transfer student, while hunting down deserters from the USNA military. During their time together her and the siblings became friends, Lina also grew some romantic feelings for Tatsuya, but she's to stubborn to except them. Though they eventually were put in situations where they were forced to fight each other(tatsuya twice, Miyuki once) and Tatsuya became their prime suspect. But even after all of that the siblings never held anything against Lina, because they knew she was being forced to do this and in turn Lina was very grateful to them for keeping her secrets and sweeping the incidents under the rug. Tatsuya held a lot of sympathy for her situation and role as an strategic-class magician, since he lives a very similar existence, so he wanted to help her as much he can since he noticed being in the military is extremely hard on her mentally, since Lina is naturally a kind person and even offered her his strength to help her leave the USNA if she ever wants to in the future and to use his connections to get her a home in Tokyo. |

Yea definitely still go watch the movie, it is nice to revisit their universe and to see Erika do some pretty cool stuff. Though depends on how people react to the extreme Onii-sama jokes with Miyuki i suppose And hopefully in America they give out a Eng copy of this Mahou Shoujo Lina novel, because i highly doubt they gave this out for backstory |
