The op is indeed good, anyway this kind of series is hard to comment on. Not sure even where to start.

But I must really comment on the only rule during dinner and a clock-like intro describe by the main character, most noticable is in their conversation.

Earthquake was the real start, and there is our first victim:)

Oh my god, you can't just end an episode like this, WHAT THE FUCK D:

Now this is where the mystery part kicks in, i'm guessing.

I'm honestly enjoying the parts where characters just pick up each other's mindsets the most. It's interesting to watch.

Well yeah they are removing some monologues but that's pretty much expected by now, I actually thought that they did a much better job in this ep and overall pretty good.

First of all, love the op! Those transitions, simply brilliant. xD And ED is great too with those cute tomo moments.

My fav moments were how Maki's ESP powers were presented, great job with that. My only minor nitpick would be how the camera moved across everyone's face when kanami started talking. Otherwise this was really good, damn sad next ep is delayed for a month. T_T

Oh yeah, "hero" aikawa, gimme now!

Main strength of zaregoto is its character interactions and anlysis, mystery is by far the weakest in vol 1.

With this delay in episodes, now you would be even more lost with the tiny details and foreshadowing. I advise the anime-only to watch all the ep when they come out at once.

while the intro was interesting, the whole "I don't really mind being alone" made me feel awkward. Stuff like this sounds good in songs but in monologues or dialogues... rip. Esp. when you throw it straight in the intro.
the OP is very good.

Man the chef lady is a lot more attractive than her appearance suggested at first glance.

This is starting to remind me of Danganronpa.

I guess Boku is meant to be relateable. And he is.

Much better episode as it was easier to follow.

Oh my!! This episode was much better than the first! They actually included some of Ii's monologues (Even if was a little more), and they worked very well in showing the problem that Ii and Maki have with each other, but the novel is still superior in this part, Ii's narration shows you how he's anger, but that's okay.

The opening was BEAUTIFUL!! I thought that they would put references to some Masterpiece or bacteria, but no ): That ending was cute too, that akai ito kunagisa was funny.

And here we are when the mystery begins! I'm really sad that Zaregoto delayed to 2017, but that's okay if it means more quality (that is already good).

5/5, Shaft really delivered.

Jun's teasing is always nice to see. XD

Whoa that was some really great and intriguing probing on Ii. Maki's words were spot on for Ii-chan's inner thinking, and it was interesting to learn how he viewed Tomo.
Looks like Kanami was the first victim? Is Shinya a red herring? Because they made it look really conspicuous when he checked up on her after the earthquake and didn't go to help her.

Did you read the LNs in Japanese? Or just the initial two volumes that have been translated? And by "hero" Aikawa, are you referring to the main character (I think) in the Saikyou series? If you don't mind my asking, how does the Zaregoto series and the Saikyou series relate?

Wow, while it wasn't toned down too much, Ii-chan's response in the LN definitely has a different tone to me, he seems more hateful or vehement than simply upset.

Five volumes have been translated(I read those) and your second question is kind of a spoiler since you should supposedly not know the true identity of aikawa till now , soo

And yeah, reading the LNs will definitely allow you to delve deep into Ii's mind, it's obv the monologues will be toned down. Vol 2 will be even more difficult to adapt, tho.

I really like the style of the OP song they went with this. Very stylistic yet fitting for this series.

So we meet most of the characters around that table but Maki is the one that caught my attention the most. The character chemistry between Kunagisa and Il-chan is still quite amusing.

Great episode. Their conversation on the dining table was very compelling. A clock like seats for them, kinda amusing. Interesting characters, so far Kunagisa and Maki really got my interest.

So the beheading starts now, I'm wonder if this is the mystery that Kunagisa was interested about. Looking forward to know more about the characters and the world builiding.

OP was great, everyone is being beheaded. xD The ED wasn't my type but fair anyway.

The OP was absolutely brilliant and matches the style of the first volume. With this pacing, I'm guessing that they'll only adapt the first volume, which is a shame since the second volume was much more interesting. Hopefully Shaft decides to continue this series later on. Also, thank god they used the murder as a cliffhanger to interest their audience. But once again, I'll have to say that the OP is freaking brilliant. Whoever at Shaft thought of that idea deserves a pat on the back. It truly is the Kubikiri Cycle :D

I'm sure its Sakaki if we're retrospective about the romanticism of the scenario.

'Beheading cycle' which is now the phenomenon involving beheading as an absolute rule. If we put geniuses in a mansion to live together, personalities will clash in uncertainty. People will not like one or the other. I referred to Johan Liebert who captures great scenes of trauma and suffering. I reflected Johan towards the geniuses to realise immediately the level of pity I needed to understand this murder.

At first glance, the Seven Fools girl Sonoyama shallowly showed her philistine attitude, she says artists are scums. She isn't foolish and is not the culprit. That Genius fortune teller Himena is intangible, but I'm sure she's targeted and will be outsmarted soon.

I also think how futile and a waste this death was. How did it feel to kill Ibuki? Did Sakaki grow weary and concluded that by killing Ibuki, she wouldn't need to suffer? Maybe she used to be different. She could've changed after series of events, along with needing a wheel chair. Nothing will explain this until our protagonist investigates im the next episode. I think Sakaki can be described as a villain, indefinitely.

While what you say indeed makes sense, I would also like to point out that Maki, as a clairvoyant, could see through anyone's lies (for example when she knew Kunagisa was lying about why she went to the island). Then I would inquire why she didn't say anything when Sakaki told the others about Ibuki's response through the phone. She would have at least shown some reaction unless she really doesn't care about Ibuki at all (which I assume Maki does care because she is considered "significant"). Unless a part of a scene was intentionally cut, we have to assume that Sakaki was telling the truth. Also, we have to be aware that by analyzing the crime scene, a large portion of Ibuki's upper body was cut off which doesn't seem like something Sakaki would be capable of doing. Even though I have my suspicions about Sakaki, I doubt he is the true culprit of the murder. However, I might be proven wrong.

I believe Maki's perceptiveness was greater than everyone within the lounge. She fails to add up with the situation, genius fortune teller. Thats not clairvoyance, thats her intelligence functioning. Kunagisa is on 5000 layers of irony.

There is something wrong with the person who killed Ibuki. The paint all over the floor was done manually, she was supposed to be doing Boku's portrait and the color scheme dropped on the floor barely matches anything about Boku. She died in the center of all the spilled paint, vandalism. The wine on the table fell as if blood has been spilled but also measures the volume of movement caused by the Earthquake, someone used the Earthquake to kill Ibuko and confuse the situation. It couldn't be Sakaki if we assume that the murder was done that evening. Someone would take a cleaver from the kitchen in the time frame of Sashirono who is about to go bed early.

She would be trying to move around her fallen paint only to be intervened by the killer, she must have struggled or been killed outright before being positioned there. Maybe its Sonoyama, she's a philistine.

Actually, Maki says during the diner scene that "she's not arrogant enough to involve herself with the world". In other words, she'll not use her ability to change somebody's fate.
And yeah, about cutting some scenes :
In the novel, during the scene in the first episode when Maki makes her first appearence, Boku tells the reader about his first meeting with Maki ( which Boku describes as a bad impression ) in which he asks her to read his fortune. Maki asks him back his birth date and blood group, Boku answers it, and then Maki pulls a paper out of her pocket with Boku's exact answer.
From those scenes, the reader can tell that Maki's lack of response is not a sign of truth or lie.

Just to clear this thing abt Maki's personality, she is indifferent towards anything of this, just like sipping beer and watching the fun.

You can realize this in Ln when Ii-chan asks her abt her ESP pwers(this part was visually implemented in this ep)

Abt "if a scene was a cut", this was how it panned out in the LN

Kunagisa is enlightenment, living within the moment. The life of a small fish in a huge world (also with computers and big shots), a fish lives in a continous flow with its environment. I was thinking how Maki couldn't practically rely on fortune abilities when questioning Kuna. Maki is not able to understand Kunagisa in fortune telling. She is the unpredictable element in the world.

The architect: 'Your life is the sum of a remainder of an unbalanced equation inherent to the programming of the matrix. You are the eventuality of an anomaly, which despite my sincerest efforts I have been unable to eliminate from what is otherwise a harmony of mathematical precision. While it remains a burden to sedulously avoid it, it is not unexpected, and thus not beyond a measure of control'

Kunagisa is not an underdog. She is here to do actual work like fixing everyone's computers. Who was the guy that had her fixing his computer

Sasaki expression during that phone call made me believe he killed Kanami.

Frustrating character to be around, there's no way to beat her at her own game.

Wow that OP was so cool. I wish I could discuss it without spoiling stuff. I thought this was another really strong episode. I especially really liked the way they depicted Maki's ESP with the TV screens. Kind of gave me a P4 vibe. But more importantly I like how they never explained it. I'm pretty sure Maki comparing seeing the future to a bunch of TV screens doesn't come till later in the book anyway. So this was really cool set up. And quite visually inventive as we expect from Shaft. Especially Boku tossing and turning over Maki's take down being depicted as him stuck inside of a TV screen. I also thought the dinner argument was well handled.

I'm not without a few nit picks though. While I find the way they're portraying certain characters like Shinya pretty interesting given what we'll later learn about them. I'm a little on the fence about their characterization of Maki. It's mostly spot on and her attacks on Boku are typical Nisioisin verbal savagery. But I always imagined her as less focused I guess. The book went to great lengths to describe her as kind of burned out. Which I imagined was meant to be contrasted with her sharp tongue. Sort of like she was in a daze from her powers. But it disguised a much more perceptive and precise mind. Just minor quibbles. Same with Kunagisa's hyper active personality. Not quite how I pictured it but certainly not a betrayal of the character.

I am also a little worried how the series is going to do balancing its many characters. Mainly all the maids who remain indistinguishable pretty window dressing. I thought about how in the book during the scene with Maki and Shinya it makes a point that they're drinking wine. And Boku and Kunagisa are under aged. So Hikari finds them some ginger ale instead. This is completely bypassed in the show, which really shouldn't matter and is arguably even necessary. But it was small moments like that, which built Hikari's character over the book. And made her feel distinct and not just a cute maid check box. Finally I also think they tried to hard with the cliffhanger. As I recall the second chapter ends with Boku wrestling with Maki's words. The body isn't discovered until a little into Chapter 3. But as if worried we'll lose interest the series just dumps the body discovery right at the end of the episode. As a little hook cliffhanger. Not a horrible decision, but an unnecessary one I think. I did really like Kunagisa's ED with that Kalafina song though.

Hmm, kinda uneventful episode if you ask me. Not really sure I can see the potential and appeal of the show and it's certainly not on par with Monogatari. Seiyuu are doing great job though...

Well, if this turns into murder house mystery drama, it can get better but so far I can't say I like it. It feels cold, way too serious and there is lack of some bigger meaning or message in all this.

Anyway, it seems the Kanami's murder happened for the sole reason of Tomo not having to go away. Now, it's only my guess but it seems one more would have to happen for Boku to stay too.
I certainly don't trust Shinya, as far as I'm concerned he may as well as fake his telephone talk with Kanami only to make himself an alibi.

And I certainly hope that with so many people around this series won't resort to introducing characters only, that would be a drag.

That blonde cunt is very punchable. I'd give a medal to anyone that does so, hope it happens here(it won't)

The rest, well... I appreciate style over substance.

Damn, this was great! Visually stunning. How director portrayed Maki's powers was indeed impressive.
