Groove said: Why are you guys so obsessed with externals? Regular HDDs are much cheaper. True, but I don't have any open slots in my desktop for a second drive. Plus, I can swap it between my desktop and laptop if I want, or when I upgrade my desktop again (probably soon) I just unplug from the old one and into the new one, without having to go through the hassle of transferring hundreds of gigs of data from one to the other. Finally, I do a lot of digital photography, and the external hard drive gives me a safe, convenient way to back-up my digital files independent of my desktop, without having to burn everything to CDs. I'll agree its not the cheapest way to do things, but I think the convenience factor off sets the extra cost for me. Groove said: Here in Israel I can pick up a 500gb HDD for as little as 150$, but it will cost about 250$ to get a 500gb external. Ouch! I can pick up a nice 1-terabyte external drive for that much, or even a little less, in the US. Prons said: Internal hdds are cheaper? I spent 100 dollars and got 500 gigs. I don't think you can beat that. From what I've seen, that's about as cheap as they come. If you look at any given manufacturer's internal and external models of the same size, the internal one will be a little cheaper. From what I usually see the difference is about 20 to 50 dollars. It's not a huge difference like what Groove mentioned, but I don't know anything about how things are priced where he is. |

Well, I keep a lot more than just anime on these things, and the whole point of putting stuff on an external HD, at least for myself, is that the data won't go anywhere when it's time to format my computer or get a new one. I wouldn't have bought them if I didn't have a desire to keep things around as permanently as possible. In the past(very far) it was moving important documents through disks, then it was moving important documents and files through CDs, and then DVDs. I got tired of doing that, which was a waste of money, so I just got these so that I can use them to move whatever I want, whenever I want, however many times I want. That seems like a better option than burning a ton of CDs or DVDs. |

Basically, I burn whatever I want. If it's licensed, but it was licensed post-burning the first disc (only applies for longer shows), then I'll keep burning. If it was a show that was larger than 1 disc (4.4GB), got licensed, and wasn't big enough to merit two discs, I usually deleted it and planned to buy the DVDs. I have so many different case-by-case scenarios, though...it's ridiculous. =p |

They better give out a freebie with code geass volume 1 like a geass contact lens or a free slice of pizza. (Disclaimer - The pizza was fresh when packaged - No refunds) Geass contacts, theres a law suit waiting to happen :) |

If AS and Bandai can keep in the epic Pizza Hut product placement, this may be their best release to date. Plus the DVDs can come with a coupon for a free personal pan pizza delivered by CC herself. |

I can pick up a 500 gig external drive for only $20-30 more than you paid for the internal drive, and the pros of the external drive are well worth that, to me. Phantom said: I always just delete any anime episode i have already seen as theres always something new to watch! I need the room and any show i like enough i try to bye on DVD if i'm able to. I will keep a show on my HD if I really liked it, *and* it's not licenced (if it's licenced, I will delete it and buy the DVDs). But I have watched a *lot* of anime, so there is a fair bit I want to keep that isn't licenced. Plus, there is a lot of anime on my HD that I just have not had time to watch (I'm in the middle of moving for a new job right now, so my anime watching time is pretty limited at the moment). GChan said: I just hope AS doesn't mess with it either by canceling it or putting it on at 2AM. Just accept that they are going to screw it up somehow, and avoid being disappointed later. It takes a few seconds to plug them in or remove them, they're portable so you can take them with you and plug them into any computer easily, and...I don't want a bunch of HDDs in my case. Okay, I'm seriously do not able to catch you're line of thought. 1.Why would I want to remove my HDD? 2.Why won't I want a bunch of HDD's in my case? If anything, I don't want a bunch of HDDs lying on my case, or on my table, or anywhere for that matter, taking space. mdauben said: True, but I don't have any open slots in my desktop for a second drive. How can that be possible? As long as you have a strong power supply, it won't matter how many HDD's you have. Unless you used all the slots in the mother board, but then you should have more then 4 internal HDDs (if motherboard have 2 entries, and each standart HDD cable has two plugs), but you use only one (and cannot install the second) so this case is not possible. Still, I'm not sure, but I think that there are cables with more then two plugs. So you can have a lot of eternal HDDs without any problem. Plus, I can swap it between my desktop and laptop if I want Well, doesn't one external is enough to transfer from desktop and laptop? If you want you watch anime or listen to music or whatever, I don't believe you need to transfer 500GB of data from one pc to another, not taking about 3 external 500GB HDDs... It's seems useless. or when I upgrade my desktop again (probably soon) I just unplug from the old one and into the new one, without having to go through the hassle of transferring hundreds of gigs of data from one to the other. Second, the amount of price the shop have increased, aka their revenue, aka greedometer. Third, 17% tax to the country. (Which goes for any kind of sales, whether it is a 200k$ apartment or 5$ pack of smokes.) When all those things sum up, the customers get ass raped.... without lubricants. *edit* Because it took me a while to respond to everyone, I forgot what I wanted to say in the first place. One thing you guys aren't keeping in mind, is that the speed of external HDD's is simply ridiculous comparing to internal ones. |

Groove said: Okay, I'm seriously do not able to catch you're line of thought. 1.Why would I want to remove my HDD? 2.Why won't I want a bunch of HDD's in my case? If anything, I don't want a bunch of HDDs lying on my case, or on my table, or anywhere for that matter, taking space. 1. When I say remove, I simply mean the plug. It takes a few seconds to pull out the USB cable. Then I can do whatever I want with that HDD. I can hook it up to a different computer, bring it to someone else's house, etc. It would be a pain to have to crack open my case and unplug everything just to move the HDD around. This is a simple matter of convenience. 2. Obstruction of air flow(I have vents in the front of my case) and excess heat, mainly. I don't want my computer to have to worry about anything else other than making my games run smoothly, which is really the only time my computer is under heavy load and I need all the air flow I can get. Also, I'm not sure how much free desk space you have, but I have two external HDDs right next to my case. I've got room for another case and monitor too, so an HDD isn't really a problem. Well, doesn't one external is enough to transfer from desktop and laptop? If you want you watch anime or listen to music or whatever, I don't believe you need to transfer 500GB of data from one pc to another, not taking about 3 external 500GB HDDs... It's seems useless. This wasn't my quote, but I'll address it since it applies to me as well. I don't know about mdauben, but I'm usually not transferring any data. When I watch anime, I don't move the files to my internal HDD. I have 3 of them now, full of anime and other things, so I need to swap them out depending on what HDD the particular show I want to watch is on. I have well over 100 anime on these hard drives, and that number is constantly growing(I'm actually downloading 6 more anime right now. :P). Upgrade = Buy a new PC? Or you just buying new parts and such? If it's the first then just put the internals into the new pc, I don't see any problem whatsoever. If it's the second then again, I don't see any problem. What if he wants to keep his old computer intact? I have several working computers here that I use for different tasks. If I took out the HDD for one, I'd just have to go buy another one to put in the older computer. I have to buy a new HDD in either scenario. The way I use all of my external HDDs is for swapping or accessing the same information on multiple computers without having to unplug anything from within the case. It's just convenience. When I buy something around here, I basically pay three things. Thanks for explaining that. *edit* Because it took me a while to respond to everyone, I forgot what I wanted to say in the first place. One thing you guys aren't keeping in mind, is that the speed of external HDD's is simply ridiculous comparing to internal ones. I mainly watch anime on them...speed doesn't really matter for what I use them for anyway. It's not like I play my games from them, that would be ridiculous. I don't know what mdauben does with his though. |

Groove said: Okay, if you're willing to sacrifice a lot of speed for that convenience (and you said later in that post that you do) it certainly makes sense Yeah, the speed isn't really an issue for what I do. My PC is overclocked and I basically live in the desert yet I never had heat problems. I occasionally have problems, but even when I'm not, having that extra ventilation helps a little. I'm not trying to say it drops the temperature by 10 degrees C or anything, but just like you'd like to save as much space as possible, I'd like to have as much ventilation as possible. I've got about this much free desk space Yikes... I can see why you want to save as much as possible. That's exactly what I meant. But on the same note, if he for example only have one small (read : cheap) external HDD for keeping his photographs and a lot of internals he will save himself a lot of space, speed and cash. I guess it comes down to how much he needs to be mobile. *shrug* |

Groove said: How can that be possible? As long as you have a strong power supply, it won't matter how many HDD's you have. Unless you used all the slots in the mother board, but then you should have more then 4 internal HDDs What can I say, its a cheap commercial PC and all the slots in the case are filled. Its not a full size tower, but a "mini-tower" and only starts with a limited number to begin with. Well, doesn't one external is enough to transfer from desktop and laptop? Sure, if I had one that was, say, 2TB. I have a lot of data archived and not just anime. Upgrade = Buy a new PC? Or you just buying new parts and such? If it's the first then just put the internals into the new pc, I don't see any problem whatsoever. If it's the second then again, I don't see any problem. Upgrade as in buy a new one. The desktop I have now is several years old and not worth upgrading with new parts, and I don't want to reuse my old HD in a new PC, becuase one of the reasons I am going to upgrade is that my current internal HD is too small. Again, I think just one external is enough. Unless you really do have a lot of photos. (And I mean.. a lot ) On an average day out shooting photos, I might take 100+ 12megapixle shots. Even if I only keep a fraction of them, saving 12megapixle shots in RAW format quickly adds up, and I have thousands of shots archived. One thing you guys aren't keeping in mind, is that the speed of external HDD's is simply ridiculous comparing to internal ones. True, but not an issue the way I use it. I keep files I am working with (whether it's a photograph I am digitally editing, an anime I an watching, etc. on my internal HD. I just move them onto the external HD for permenant storage or achiving. . But on the same note, if he for example only have one small (read : cheap) external HDD for keeping his photographs and a lot of internals he will save himself a lot of space, speed and cash. I'd like "lots of internals" but as I said, my current PC does no allow me that option, and the normally available prepackaged PCs at the big retail stores seem to top out at 1x500gig drive, so to do multiple drives I'd have to build or buy a custome PC. I was talking to one of the IT guys at work about puting together a custom desktop for me (rather than buying another one at the local giant retail store) in which case I would probably get at least 2x500gig internals. Still, I would require at least a 1TB external for archiving photos (like I said, I take a lot of picutures and each file is large). Right now I have a 180gig internal and a 320gig external completely filled, with overflow files burned off onto stacks of DVDs on my shelves. Judging by how fast I filled up 500gig of storage, I figure its pointless to upgrade to much less than 1.5 or 2TB (int+ext) when I upgrade my system, or I will find myself running out of space again too soon. It all makes sense to me, and while I recognize the drawbacks of the external drive. the benefits outweigh them, for me and for my uses. ^_^ |

Hayate is awesome. I have tons of episodes (I'm only on like...26 or 27) backlogged, since the last one released was 41, and it looks like it's going into an amazingly awesome arc that is surprisingly more shounen than the anime would have you believe. Which is great. Also, Lucky Star dub. I like it. Screw all the haterz. Sub is better, of course, but still. |

2 of the girls sound good the other 2 sound lackluster, sadly one of those 2 is my favorite character Kagami. Dubbing in English seems to suffer on shows were its just people taking to each other on the other hand action shows and comedy's always seem to have a great dub. They just don't sound nature standing around taking about food like the 11's can. |

Man, moving does indeed suck. :-( I just started a new job this week about 90 miles away and I'm living in a motel while I make arrangements to move. No time for anime, no time for hanging out on the web. No time for much of anything right now! Lucky I really like the new job (and the associated raise didn't hurt, either). Hopefully everything will be back to normal by the end of the month. ;-) |

Finished Zombie-Loan, it was meh, gonna watch some airing shows (Zoku Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei, Shigofumi, Hakuten Yuugi and Minami-ke ~Okawari~) next. |

Taking a quick glance at all the shows I'm currently watching and/or following, I'd evaluate them so far as: Gundam 00 - 9/10 (20/25) Spice and Wolf - 8.5/10 (8/13) True Tears - 8/10 (8/13) Zoku Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei - 8/10 (4/13) Tekkaman Blade - 7/10 (19/49) Minami-ke ~Okawari~ - 7/10 (7/13) Hatenkou Yuugi - 6/10 (6/10) Gundam ZZ - 6/10 (6/47) Of course, none of this is final, I'm fully expecting Tekkaman Blade and ZZ to improve, same with Gundam 00 and Spice and Wolf. I may wait till it's all out to watch Shigofumi though. |
