Here we go... people trying to psychoanalyze characters in an anime... people getting upset that the anime strays from the manga like they do with books and movies. Anime and in particular stories of this nature are always driven by an extreme level of traits in characters that are often unrealistic. No need to get upset, this is as high quality as dramatic depth gets in an anime so you may as well give up if the subtleties are starting to annoy you.

I can't wait for the OST, this is great.

I mean, come on, how can Naho not know who Kakeru likes?

Besides that, loved the episode. These simple things get to me.

And people outta realize that some things are easier said than done. It's not that easy to do stuff out of your comfort zone especially when it's something that's not bothering/affecting you to the extent where you feel like you MUST do so-and-so because you're tired of it or whatever, so Naho's hesitant actions are rather normal.

I still can't feel sympathy at all for Naho. She is basically rejecting her baby and her husband that she has made current happy memories with for some dead guy 10 years ago -_-. I get she loved him, but your life moved on and you have a kid and a husband. Time to put your big girl pants on. I don't know a single loving mother that would have a kid then willingly choose to reject that future just to be with a guy they love in the past. Its almost like she could care less about Suwa and her kid. I honestly hope she fails at all this, because her future self is being a selfish bitch. I feel sympathy for Suwa and her kid for having such a shit mother/wife.

Also, for all the people saying its easier said than done. If she really loves the dude and wants to save his life then it really isn't. She obviously doesn't love him enough to put her embarassment and insecurities aside to be able to do these things. When you love someone you make sacrifices.

If Naho hadn't managed to save the situation at the last moment, she would have won the award of the worst character of 2016 xD
How can't she see that Kakeru likes her? omg
I have a feeling that if she saves Kakeru, Suwa will die in his place :(

Suwa is a real bro, and Ueda is a real bitch.

You know, I can understand how some people feel about Naho, but damn, have some patience, lmao. It's how she is. You can't expect her to change in one, two, three, like it's nothing. It's easier said than done to change your personality, no matter what's on the line. I can relate to her.

Anyway, great episode.

I wonder if I finally found out what melodrama is. Just, that Ueda girl is too mean. She doesn't even care about what Kakeru wants to do. I'm surprised Kakeru has put up with her for so long. On Naho's side, I understand the criticism of her hesitation, yet I somehow feel it's rather realistic. As Naho said, it's a lot easier said than done. Though, in my opinion her hesitation only made the moment she actually stepped up and tried to change things more worth it.

Yo, Ueda's a fuuuuckin' biiiitch. She should've already known Kakeru had friends prior to their relationship, and Naho wasn't even talking to Kakeru for awhile, that was the point of the episode. Also she's super annoying. This is why you don't date solely on looks.

I'm curious about Suwa interrupting Naho when she was talking about the child. "Mine and--" Does that mean something?

Naho's irritating at times, but I get where she's coming from. Things are easier said than done, especially when you've got conflicting feelings about something and a personality like Naho's. Teenagers have a tendency to make things complicated in general, as well. I hope in the end she can save Kakeru.

This is truth. That piano soundtrack during the lunch break, and the peppy guitar/drums thing when she was reading the letter... ah. Makes me feel better about Naho's lack of action

Seriously tho, I feel like every episode has basically been the same? Like she reads the letter, then the thing happens, then she doesn't change it... but then plot twist, she actually does!! (but late! Because drama!) If she can manage to draw up the courage to do it in the end, she should just do it to begin with, sheesh. Does Naho not realize how good she has it? I'd sell an organ for my future self to tell me what to do with my life and dammit I'd listen to future me because nobody knows me better. Like, I kind of get her attitude, she's scared, but she takes that fear wayy too far and then does a COMPLETE turnaround at the end of the episode just because of what Suwa said. She literally trusts Suwa more than her future self smh

Anyway, rant. I can't wait until we get closer to the accident part and things get real interesting

So I find myself rushing to a forum just to see if others were as frustrated with Naho as I was in this episode. At first I was like 'fuck yea everyone else thought she was being an idiot', but some other responses did help me realize that although her choices were very annoying for us viewers, they were realistic and understandable. It's true that everything is easier said than done, but I think what frustrates us the most is that it's obvious following the letter's instructions can only do good.

But I can see that Present Naho is starting to get a stronger grasp at what she needs to do, since towards the end of the episode, she says that her future self surely feels more pain from her regrets after holding them in for 10 years. You could say a theme of this anime is the lesson of how it's better to regret what you did do, than didn't :)

Also, the future scenes do fuck with my feelings about who Naho should be with, especially since Naho and Suwa are married and have a child! & Of course, like most people are saying, Suwa does deserve it. But I can't shake the feeling that if Kakeru were alive, she wouldn't be with Suwa :T

Still 1 chapter per episode? Why? Seriously. I don't really like this part in the manga.

You can do that with other chapter you know, like

If it's really will be 13 episodes, I can only expect for it to fasten the pace to be 2 chapter per episode for the rest of the series.

Naho is too scared to tell Kakeru how she feels. I think that's good. I think HE should do it, and tell first about his feelings. And if he thinks he should break up with that Ueda bitch, that's awesome. Go Naho! ^^

Some fans of this anime seem not be able to see why some audiences find Naho so frustrating to watch.

It's probably because those (blind) fans fail to see what some other audience see.

Naho is active enough to suggest she will make a home-made lunch for Kakeru. Hard to say it's less demanding and embarassing than to have some talk with him when Kakeru asks her to do.

The anime has several other scenes which indicate she is strong enough.

Moreover, the story goes in a way she has more and more strong reasons to be active about Kakeru (potentially a matter of life and death of a boy she loves) giving the audience some good reasonable reasons to expect she will be able to follow the instructions of the letter if not so demanding (i.e., not ignoring him when he asks to have some talk).

And the show betrays the reasonble expectations of the audience, intending to send them on an emotional roller coast ride.

Notice that the show should decieve the audience (giving good reasons for them to expect to see Naho doing X, and then betrays ...) if this trick could work for the audience.

And this is a cheap trick. And this feel of "got decieved by the show's narrative trick" is what makes some audience feel so frustrated with Naho.

This anime are doing many thing right and personally I have no complaint with the cheap narrative trick (because that's what I expected about the show. This is a shoujo anime after all).

But I have no difficulty getting why some audience got mad about the way she is depicted (sort of inconsistent character).

Naho is realistic, I like how she makes mistakes instead of following the letter to the last dot. When she felt that the letter wasn't 100% correct the last time she followed it, she felt uncertain. I like that.

Naho... She always self-blames. I'm glad Suwa is there to support her and Kakeru (despite being in love with her)

Naho by herself said during the episode that shes trying to change the future! But it is ways easier to write to your old self after many years than actually living the situation for the first time! Shes trying, but she feels like the situation is overwhelming her.

So Kakeru is dating Ueda but isn't really happy with it. It's clearly visible on his face that he isn't really okay with this. He wants to talk to Naho to confirm her "no" but Naho ignores him despite being told not to in the letter. She does everything that the letter states because the situation was such that she couldn't bring herself to confront Kakeru. She probably thought that this was Kakeru's decision and she doesn't want him to dislike her by talking with him because Ueda would be pissed. Naho started to cut ties with him a bit – stopped making lunch for him, stopped waking him up, stopped talking to him. Kakeru began to regret his decision of dating Ueda but he wanted a confirmation from Naho, but couldn't get that as Naho ignored him. He wanted to talk to her all this time but couldn't because of Naho running away. But Suwa comes to save the day as he pushes Naho to go ahead and talk to Kakeru. The guy knows that Kakeru isn't exactly happy with how things are and wants to talk to Naho but isn't getting the chance to which has him a bit depressed. Suwa is well aware that Naho and Kakeru are into each other and he's keeping his own feelings back and getting the two together.

Suwa showing up to push Naho wasn't mentioned in the letter which means that the seemingly small things Naho did changed things so that Suwa ends up helping her out. Or could be Suwa has something similar to what Naho has. The other two girls are suspecting that Naho is hiding something important from them but they know that she isn't the kind of girl who'd tell them that easily so they'll have to find a way to get that secret out of her. It would help Naho if the others know about the letter and what will happen as it will make saving Kakeru easier as her friends would then help her make those hard decisions just like how Suwa helped her talk to Kakeru. They might even find alternate ways to get the same result the letter wants which would save Naho some trouble.

Those teenage days when you really have no idea what you are doing.
You're confused, oblivious, frustrated, lost, make stupid choices and hurt people along the way. All part and parcel of growing up. Life after all is trial and error.

I'm not really sure why so many people are angry with Ueda, I would rather be upset with Kakeru (and Naho). I mean coming from Ueda's POV, I just confessed to a guy that I like, he said ok, so I would assume that he has given me the green light to take on the girlfriend role (which would mean that I can expect a certain level of commitment and fidelity). So isn't it kind of natural that I would be upset when he seems to care about someone else more than me (who should have a higher priority by status).

I think Kakeru was too quick in agreeing to be with Ueda. But yea, we make mistakes, and it's through his mistake that he probably realised he really liked Naho. Ueda probably learnt that she should not have been so impatient in wanting an answer from Kakeru. Naho probably learnt that she should stop being so fickle and find her own voice in this world instead of just going with the flow and hiding from her fears.

I like Suwa. Nuff said.

It's good to see more people pissed off this time with Kakeru :/ Honestly I was pretty close to rooting for Suwa instead since last episode. Like, how passive is Kakeru?? He let Ueda do anything she wanted, and didn't stand up for Naho when she called her plain and a country bumpkin. Bruh. I'm glad he came to his senses within one episode because I would have lost my patience watching him...

I like the BGM here, sets joyful mood on this episode, compare to previous 2eps., which is kinda have gloomy atmosphere. Well Naho's right, its not easy for her to change the future, after all its the same her when her future self was still on high school day, repeating mistakes and regretting. Although she has the letter from her future self, still not easy. Looking forward for the next episode.

Ah, yes, those days. One only truly understands things better when one is older. Not much else to say about this episode except that I hope Naho can continue to keep showing courage. Fight on!

Anyway, after watching this episode, I think I've pretty much figured out this anime's direction (well, actually, it's after the last episode). It's speculation though and may not be correct, but here goes.

Basically, everything that is happening in the past right now (the 16-year-old Naho timeline) is actually not reality, but what-if scenarios that are happening inside the 26-year-old Naho's mind. And so by the end of this anime, the future Naho would be truly able to move on with almost all her regrets alleviated.

The only thing I didn't like was how dense Naho was at the end...It can kind of let it pass in comedic anime, but for a realistic'ish drama anime such as this I expect the characters to have at least a wondering mind... If she had thinked "I-I-Is it me? N-no, don't jump to conclusions!" It would have been much better IMO...
