THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.

Whoa, it's really interesting to see more of the characters' future selves this episode. Poor Naho, she's really holding back her feelings still. I that Rio girl is being a bit way too close to Kakeru though.

Seriously, I don't like Ueda much with the way she treats Naho. No wonder Kakeru doesn't seem to pay much attention to her. Glad to see Naho grow closer to Kakeru.

My god the melodrama. My god the teenage angst. I thought I was choking on it. XD You know though...oddly enough, even though my biggest concern remains Future Suwa getting shafted I think the future scenes are becoming the ones I like least. They feel the most emotionally manipulating to me in a bad or cheap sense, it's weird. In the present, Naho got on my nerves this week. She was so meek! I guess it makes sense that she'd be but the whole episode I wanted to shake her and yell in her face, "Confess you stupid girl and to hell with that bitch Ueda!" XD Oddly enough Present Suwa stepped up huge and did nearly that, to his own detriment. A true bro and friend. Him and the other two girls are the best characters so far. Four episodes in this feels like it should be over strangely enough so...where do we go from here?

Also, did anyone else initially read that one coffee/juice/whatever brand as "aereola?" XD

Does Naho really trying to change the future? Because from my perspective, she just repeating her own fault. Maybe some of it change, probably to a less-painful ending.

What a roller coaster. I was frustrated with Naho during parts of the episode but I can't hate her for it because I can sort of relate, sometimes I tell myself I'll do certain things in the near future but when the moment comes sometimes I can't actually bring myself to do it (or I just delay them).

My hope for the next episode is it starts with the recap of her thinking "I wonder who it is he's in love with?" The next scene is her reading the next page in her diary just saying 'It's you dipshit.'

I don't know what route this anime is going to take but if there is no happy end for Suwa I will be disappointed.

Great episode again, Once again 1 chapter adapted.

Glad to see Kakeru standing up for Naho, Never like Ueda.
Suwa is awesome, He's always been a great friend.
I really liked the scene with Naho yelling to Kakeru across the street, Not sure why.

I'm actually having a very different experience while watching this when compared to the manga, There are a number of subtle things that I'm picking up which normally you'd never concern yourself with during the first run xD

I really like this anime, I've read the manga before so my hype level is over 1000 atm. In this episode Naho really made me feel super irritated, when she couldn't speak to Kakeru at first, my face was like:

At least at the end she could say what she wanted to.

Okay. I am liking this show, but so far Naho is really annoying me. She knows she needs to change how she acts in order to save someone's life, and yet she doesn't even make an attempt. Despite the letter telling her exactly what to do, she doesn't do any of it. And whats more is that it takes someone else telling her what she already knows for her to be able to do something. I understand it's hard to change how you are, but when you care about someone enough, you at least make an attempt, especially when it could literally save someones life.

Naho is one of the most aggravating and infuriating characters I have ever witnessed. She's such a doormat of a character, and I don't see why she bothers to read the letter when she's almost always ignoring the advice of her future self anyway. That being said, it's not exactly easy to talk to Kakeru when Ueda is so damn clingy and insecure and constantly talking to Kakeru while constantly looking down on Naho.

Either way, Naho is annoying me so much at this point that it's actively sabotaging the good things that the series is doing, at least in my eyes.

People keep saying the feels this and that about this series but all I can think of watching this is how dumb Naho is for just not following what the letters say to the point.

Also Ueda literally has no purpose in this series other than causing some drama cause we all knew Kakeru was just going to break up with her cause he likes Naho.

Naho: "I wonder if my future self knows the person kakeru is interested in..." Literally how dense can you be?

Two things.

1. Naho get it together for crying out loud. I'm glad things seemed to change at the end of the episode, but still at this point it should be obvious to her that following the letter is the best thing to do. Hopefully now she'll start listening to it.

2. So I don't read the manga but apparently they've been doing 1 chapter an episode so far and the manga is 22 chapters. So are some upcoming chapters shorter? Or are they just going to try and do 2 to 3 chapters in upcoming episodes? Apparently they've been adapting the manga panel by panel so far so I'm assuming they're not going to skip anything.

2)I wonder if I ever hated someone so much just because she was in a relationship. That bitch is such a worthless envious whore,I wished she was hit and stood down once and forever
3)Naho dear,he is in love with you, pumpkinhead if there is another twist I will die
4)Suwa is the most hurt in this story and I admire him more every episode, the man is head over heels for Naho but she sets her with her true love. The sacrifice man is intensifying
So far it was a good episode and I still feel I will cry in its second half

I understand changing oneself is hard, but dang girl I guess you just want him to die. I mean if I knew one of my friends are going to die and I could possibly save them I would not be cowering in fear. Do you think changing the future is that easy? You know what you have to do, but can you do it?
Also, we already know the future changed. She can't trust that later 1:1 anymore.

I see people complaining that she knows what to do and still repeats her mistakes, but you've got to understand that it is not easy to do all those things (especially for someone with her personality, INFJ) even if you know you should behave differently. She even said it in this episode, it looks easy for her future self, but for the present her it is still hard.

Naho is definitely a frustrating character but that's what makes it all the more satisfying when she actually speaks and up and does shit occasionally. Although I'll admit that she is annoying me much more in the anime than in the manga.

So we're still at a 1:1 ratio... making me wonder if they won't split cour this and do 22 episodes. Hyouka was 22 episodes so it's possible, but that was also one cour. A split of 13 episodes and 9 episodes seems strange to do. Hopefully they don't fuck up at the last minute with this adaptation because it is on point so far.

I can understand why Naho seems to be having such a hard time changing the future, especially with her type of personality, but come on, all you have to do is trust what your future self is telling you to do. But like she said, it's easy for her future self to say "just do it" since she's not the one who's actually doing it. Suwa is such a bro though, he's sacrificing his own future happiness so that Naho and Kakeru can be happy.

"I don't want you talking to other girls!" Seriously, fuck Ueda. If your gf is that pathetic, clingy, and insecure, you need to dump her immediately, run away as fast as possible, and never look back.

"I wonder if my future self knows the person Kakeru is interested in." Naho....please.....you're killing me here.

One thing I really like about this show is the attention to the background, nameless characters. We get to hear snippets of conversations as random people walk by the main cast. Also, the they let aspects of every day life get in the way of what we are watching. For example, when Naho finally runs after Kakeru, there are cars driving by that keep getting in the way of their conversation. Excellent detail. So often, Anime (or even non-anime shows for that matter) make it seem like the main characters are the centers of the universe and all the background characters are just wooden props. It reall helps sell the illusion that these are just normal kids leading normal lives while surrounded by other people who have nothing to do with them.

Well done!

Sometimes I really want to falcon punch Naho. And it is not for not doing what is in the letters. I do like the fact that she says that "is hard to change one's personality" and "it is easy to look back in time and say that you would do different, but really doing is another thing"...I like it because it is sooo true.
But dude, sometimes she seems so rude. Especially when she is running away from Kakeru like he is a freaking psycho, at least use some excuse, I dunno XD I would feel really bad in his place.
But, oh well, she was like this in the manga too.

Spot on! I do understand that others here are irritated by Naho's constant hesitation do to the obvious thing and constant running away from it all, which makes it worse for her and Kakeru, but it's easier said than done. If it was ourselves in Naho's shoes, dealing with the letter from her future self and telling us what to do, it's inevitable that one of the instructions will make us hesitate, maybe run away from the problem as well. Add our personal feelings into the situation and you'll have a perfect recipe to start making mistakes.

Naho's choices and reactions are only natural of someone who wants to try to make the right choice. A little word called 'realistic' comes to mind. Characters like her do get too much criticism for making choices or having second thoughts that us viewers can relate to.

Little rant aside, this episode was really good. Melodrama it might've been, but it kept me on the edge of my seat for the most part.

Ueda is one annoying brat though. She doesn't seem to care about Kakeru's friendship for the others, taking every break as an opportunity to take him somewhere, leaving his friendship with the others on-hold.

Not only that, but after bumping into Naho, causing her to lose her balance and fall, she got frustrated at Kakeru for helping Naho, shouting that she doesn't want him to look at other girls at all. With that mindset, regardless of gender, this relationship will only go on to break apart eventually. It would serve Ueda right for being jealous and selfish. =/

I do save sympathy for Suwa, as he did such a selfless task to help Naho get her mind back on the right track and finally talked to Kakeru again, but in doing so, his chance to getting hitched up with Naho decreases by the day. )=

Hopefully, there's a happy ending for everyone, but I'm sure the feels train has yet to hit it's maximum potential. I wonder what's going to happen next...

If this is what the rest of the drama will be like I will be disappointed in this anime.

By now Naho has confirmed that the letter is correct in telling the future and she believes it herself, she mentioned it during the middle portion of this episode. There should be no reason for her to continue making these mistakes. If there was no important meaning behind the letter then it's fine for her to disregard it but she knows that in 10 years time, Kakeru will be dead. A best friend dying, and having many regrets over it is something that I personally think should be high on my priority list of something to pay attention to. The drama was hardly believable and if nothing else, it was frustrating. Luckily for her, Suwa stepped in and knocked some sense into her, although that entire scene felt really weak as well. Some could say Naho is being portrayed realistically because even with the power of knowing what will happen, our emotions at the time can still get the better of us. That was believable for the first few episodes but by now it is pretty evident, and Naho even realizes, that the letter is telling the truth. Realistically by now, she should be doing everything she can to prevent her friend's death, rather then having a teenage girl emotional conflict.

The question I'm sure everyone has been asking themselves has finally come to light in this episode. Is the future being changed? Suwa's action can be considered as a future-altering event. Since it wasn't mentioned in the letter we can assume that Suwa didn't step in the first time which means Naho didn't end up talking to Kakeru that day, finding out that he was planning to break up with Ueda and that he was actually interested in someone else. That brings us back to another question, how much of the future will be changed? With all this talk about deep regrets and Naho already screwing up a few times already, is something like this enough to erase her present self's mistakes? If the future had really been changed, wouldn't that make the rest of the letter useless since whatever happens now was not experienced by future Naho? If nothing was changed then why wasn't it mentioned in the letter?

"Kakeru gets into a fight with his girlfriend after saying bye-bye". Okay great, how is Naho supposed to deal with this? There was no advice on dealing with this situation at all. If we take what the earlier warning said as the advice, "When Kakeru calls out to you, talk to him, don't just stand around", there is the problem of the letter being poorly written. Given the overall situation, Kakeru not being part of the living world in the future, I sense no urgency at all from the letter this episode. If it was written like this, "Kakeru gets into a fight with his girlfriend, I don't do anything about it and later on find out that he was really troubled at the time. I want you to talk to him". Is there really a point in writing it out line by line instead of just giving Naho the whole picture from the beginning?

I saw the word "doormat" being used to describe Naho this episode. Yeah, I can agree with that, sad to say. Hopefully the rest of the series doesn't continue down this route of mediocrity.
