She lands into the past again and this time, she gets involved with the invention to put a stopper into lightning. What I find this episode more interesting is that she also makes a new friend in that timeline. |

| Clearly it's all about that FranklinxMari ship jk. I heard that Ben Franklin was mischievous to say the least but I didn't know he was a playboy too (though I'm not surprised). Overall great episode but it did felt like it was a bit rushed (Mari suddenly up and vanished right after the demonstration). |
| Yeah Franklin was known for his love of the ladies, big time. Especially on his trips to France. XD Anyway another very cute episode. Interesting how the church remained obstructionist and the note on slavery. Loved all the Engrish throughout too. So the kite Franklin used had a samurai on it eh? Who knew? XD It's too bad he only got the one episode, but we got a lotta figures to get through still. |

| It's all very elementary introduction to the history of classical electrical engineering. Electricity in the clouds is not so much built up in the water as it is gathered there, using the clouds as a lightning rod. Starting from the ground, there is charge differential between the ground and the cloud layers. When a particularly conductive cloud system rolls over a particularly conductive area on the ground, lightning connects the cloud to the ground. The energy in the cloud came from the ionosphere above, a highly electrified layer of the atmosphere, through sprite lightning formations because of charge differential again. The ionosphere is electrified by the surrounding environment where material carrying energy comes from the sun and exchanges charge, leaving bulk energy behind. So in the end, even if a storm cloud may not be directly triggered by a solar event, the energy that gets stored in them like a capacitor(battery) comes from the sun. To summarize, the sun is positive, the ionosphere is negative, the stormcloud is positive, and the ground is negative. That's not a very accurate description but it makes sense to think of it that way. I'll be annoyed if i don't see any mentions of dielectricity anywhere, because that's when classical electrical engineering hit it's peak, when defining the aether and the explanatory (not descriptive) formulas for electrification. We're talking about electromagnetism before electromagnetism was "re-discovered" with a slightly confused description. Back then electricity was electromagnetic, and the electric properties of matter was dielectricity, aka charge separation (polarization: so called 'positive & negative'). So modern "electromagnetism" sounds like referring to electromagnetism made up of electromagnetism and magnetism; it's rather redundant. There's also a lot to suggest static electricity doesn't exist as thought as well, but that's another story. PS: there is no positive and negative, just as there is no north and south on a magnet. We call them that, but it's like holding up a coin and saying the heads side is made up of matter and the tails is made of antimatter. It makes no sense, because they're both sides of the same coin. In this case, the coin is made up of dielectricity, aka polarized energy - the one and only kind of energy that exist in the universe besides force/motion. Dielectricity is one thing, magnetism is one thing, dielectricity terminates as magnetism, you create magnets by electrifying them - shocking them with a lot of power. The world of electrical science is a very deep and complicated one, however it is simplex (meaning it's easy to understand because of simple concept, even if can be complicated because it can be layered and multiplied endlessly). If it's hard to understand you're probably learning the convoluted incorrect interpretations of electricity (don't listen to stuff about electrons, electron is a field around an atomic nucleus, like a planet with a magnetic field, not a tiny marble that zips around it super fast; that's the confusion made by quantum mechanics). I guess it makes sense they don't show Tesla, not a whole ton is known about him besides his patents and that he was ostracized, even if he is one of the kings of electricity. | This is turning out to be a surprise show of the season. I didn't think I'd enjoy it this much. Liking the little touch on social issues of those periods. Mari is a fun MC. Mascera said: I really hope that Mari can "travel" together with Waka. Agreed. ;) |
